Did you try tomato juice? salt? hydrogen peroxide? dial soap? Hope others including Mairilyn C might have better ideas.

Rub your hands against stainless steel. That usually will remove the odor.

Yes, perhaps lemon juice? Gets rid of a fishy odor.

No tomato juice in the house,i have fresh tomatoes,would that maybe work or is it the process they use that makes the tomato juice.

Off to the kitchen to try some of these.

If the washing them while rubbing them against stainless steel doesn't work you will need Lori_UT's skunk removal recipe.

1 tsp peroxide
1 quart warm water
3 T. Dawn dish soap, no substitutes
1 cup baking soda
Mix well. Sponge on dog (your hands) and let sit 15-20 minutes. Add some water and lather. Rinse well.

Well here are the results!!
I first rubbed my hands all over the sink as it is stainless,no luck there,2nd I poured dawn(we always use that) and peroxide in my hands and washed them 2 times,still some smell there,so next came dawn and peroxide,then dawn peroxide and lemon juice all together,did that twice,it finally faded quite a bit.So after dinner and the dishes were done I did the dawn,peroxide,and lemon another time.It's barely noticeable now,just a hint.

So thanks again ladies for coming to the rescue,and Tami I sent your recipe to myself in an email and will post it in my kitchen pantry.

Yes, the recipe for removing the skunk smell from a dog. My dog's groomer uses it as well - but has added toothpaste the to the procedure - she uses it first. Maybe try rubbing toothpaste into your hands and then rinsing well to see if it will remove the residual odor - it sure worked on dogs brought in - fortunately - so far - the skunks have given our white dog a pass. Can't figure that one out. But I do have the supplies on hand.

I've previously tried tomato juice and found that it doesn't work.

Most pet supply stores (like Petco) sell a skunk odor remover that contains an enzyme that works instantly. If you pour a small amount on your hands and rub them together, the smell is gone. Pour an amount on a dog and rub it around, same thing, the smell is completely gone.

It sounds like you've washed your hands 20 times or so, that works too, but that's not something you can easily do with a dog.

If you were going to wash a dog 20 times in such circumstances ...

Actually, the best skunk scent remover is Massengill. My poor brother once had to go buy a case of it when his dog and a skunk had a close encounter, but it worked.
