What's for Dinner ... Friday?

My meal will probably be the same as a lot of others ... leftovers and I'm happy to have them.

It's on the cold side here in my part of Ohio, but to warm up again starting tomorrow. No precipitation and nothing on the ground.

Are you joining me for leftovers or eating something else?

Was craving a real turkey sandwich with mayo and lettuce, but we ate out for Thanksgiving and no turkey.

Captain D's was my choice for today! Not as good as what I would like to have had :o)

(Most of?) the rest of a large pot of stew that I made up last night.

Or I thought of suggesting in the "made too much - again" thread that maybe it'd be a good idea to carpool with Jasdip and hubs and lucky gardnr and hubs to visit some of you overburdened folks who have more than you know what to do with.

Busy day today (really, about the last 10 or so days) and we're doing our easy fall back dinner. DH is outside roasting potatoes and will do a quick steak on the grill, I'm going to just steam some asparagus and rinse some blueberries for some antioxidants... I think I'll do a nicer dinner at some point this weekend, I somehow have a sale ham in each of two refrigerators, use by dates on both first week in June. One I'll freeze, the other I'll cook. We'll probably be having ham with au gratin potatoes, ham and bean soup, ham and eggs - all next week ;)

Hi Shirley, we are at a bar getting set up to play. Before we left I marinated a couple of chicken breast in olive oil lemon juice, dijon and garlic and herbs and put them on the little gril. We had quinoa salad and fresh rolls. We're in for hot humid temperatures this week end.

Its confusing because it goes against what has been the accepted common knowledge since perhaps the early 1800's. The farmers growing them and calling them yams, are wrong. The grocers selling them and calling them yams, are wrong. The companies canning them and labeling them as yams, are wrong. The people who first introduced them to the United States called them yams, perhaps to distinguish them from the different variety of sweet potatoes that were already on the market, they were wrong too. Even some sites on the web that try to explain the difference with helpful images like this one: http://www.frugallivingnw.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/yams-sweet-potatoes-is-there-a-difference-2.jpg are wrong. (hint they are all sweet potatoes, despite their labels) So it is not at all surprising that what I learned at a young age from my mother and grandmother, and which was continually re-enforced every Thanksgiving or every time I visited a grocery store, is wrong. I have never eaten a true yam in my life, and seeing some of the pictures of what a true yam look like, I probably never will. Does it harm me in any way if other people choose to call some varieties of sweet potatoes "yams", no. It merely bothers the pedantic part of me a little when someone asserts something to be a fact, when they are in fact wrong.

Jasdip, lol....I was absolutely being silly, but it turns out that the history behind the colorful name is murky, at best. All of the many stories go pretty much down the same path...it's fast and easy! We babysat for the two little girls who live next door with their grandfather, our much loved neighbor. He had his first date in the many years since his dear wife died! These little girls have real separation anxiety issues and this was the first time that he had left them at night since he took them into his home. I fixed 'breakast for dinner'; pancakes made to order, ham sausage patties, scrambles eggs, and fresh fruit. I let them pick out their pancake ingredients from little bowls of chocolate chips, chopped apple, blueberries, peanut butter, nuts, apricot preserves, and strawberry jam. Just one pancake each, but they really loved their whole supper.

No left over here, as we've been too busy with redoing our fence, so I did not cook a big meal yesterday. I think I will make a chicken taco salad and beans and Spanish rice for dinner.

All them goodies were good for breakfast nibbling. Pie too. Then got busy and baked 18 dozen cookies to add to the candy and pan of Granola Bars. Tonite will be a repeat of yesterdays feast with all the trimmings. Let's eat.

Leftovers I brought home yesterday, chicken and noodles, turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes plus a roll. Plan to have some kind of pie after I shut up my chickens. They are really laying for cold weather. Took daughter and granddaughter eggs yesterday, six dozen. Does not take long to get that many right now.

I'm looking forward to fixing a plate of leftovers. DH will probably have a turkey sandwich. He was sneaking a dish of stuffing yesterday way before the dinner hour and think he was into the leftovers earlier. That's the best part of Thanksgiving. The next day you can just do what you please.

I made a big pot of jambalaya with sausage, tasso and ham for the family.
Our big Thanksgiving dinner is tomorrow.

I'm with Old Joyful!! We'll happily sit with you and help you dispose of the masses of leftovers. :D

didn't take any leftover turkey home from dd2's ( we made it) so we had Chinese, lol...they're all over at ds1, but we're home watching tv...quiet before the storm (we have the out of towners plus the grand dogs)

Glenda: It is nice when you cook to have the leftovers. I didn't cook but got leftovers from my kids. I'm so thankful.

Joyful: I'm fortunate in that I don't cook but still get leftovers.

Alice: What you're having to eat sounds good too. Out of state daughter sent me a card that said a person doesn't have to wait for Thanksgiving to have the turkey dinner/fixings.

OldFixer: I almost always eat lunch/dinner foods for my breakfast. Would you like to pass around a plate of cookies to the rest of us?

Sue: Sounds like you had a big variety of foods yesterday at your granddaughters.

Georgysmom: Your husband has the right idea to eat when he pleases. Where in the rule book does it state we have to eat meals at a specific time? lol

Caroline: Are you sure?

Raven: I'll bet your family is glad you're there. Meal sounds good tonight too. (I had to look up tasso)

Jasdip: I felt like you in Oct when it was your Thanksgiving. I'll trade some turkey for some of your spaghetti meal.

Susan: I'm glad you're getting a little break between celebrations. Did you go to the chinese restaurant or do take out?
