L2C46, that is a very cute turkey appetizer, a vegetarian option is always good (grin) Here we had 7. Ashley and Kevin made it, still no baby. Amanda, Dave and the kids and me. Mother went to my niece's, it was "her turn". Mother is in great demand on holidays, LOL, and came here last year. Stepmother had dinner with her sister, saving me 120 miles of driving, one more thing to be thankful for. We had a cheese ball with Ritz crackers to start, Dave loves that cream cheese/cheddar/dried beef/green onion mix, so I always make it for him. We also had some rabbit from the smoker to snack on while I got dinner "around", along with home canned pickled beets, sweet and dill pickles and olives. The main menu was: Turkey (a 21 pounder for 7 of us, both girls took leftovers) Sage and onion stuffing (I wanted to add oysters ala Seagrass but was roundly voted down, so Elery and I will have that) Mashed potatoes (with cream and butter, not kosher at all) Gravy Butternut squash/whole wheat dinner rolls Broccoli with cheese sauce Maple glazed roasted sweet potatoes Fruit salad Fresh cranberry and apple relish French Silk Pie Pumpkin Pie Ice cream cake with M&Ms Happy Thanksgiving. I was hugnry before I started reading this thread. Now I'm full! :) Alexa? Cranberry biscuits? This sounds like something I need to know more about. Alton Brown is probably the only person who could convince me that diary and green beans belong within a mile of each other. I have no clue what I will be doing. MIL called this morning and wants to do something up her way. Given her cooking is not what it used to be, I'm hoping that means "reservations" because she's reticent to relinquish control of the kitchen. Frankly, I'm hoping to convince her that the traffic the next day will be so horrendous that she should either come down here or do her own thing with other relatives. I'd be perfectly happy spending the day with a turkey sandwich and a couple Hepburn movies. :)

ever since making cranberry jezabel a few years ago, i decided that i actually liked cranberry sauce! not a doubt in my mind that i need to do a test run on that ginger/pear recipe! and what's even more clear is that i am just going to have to try out marilyn's version of stuffing! and you are right, ann--you don't mess with family favorites on thanksgiving and i know that ted's sister would just love that sweet potato recipe of yours and i'm going to make sure she gets it--thank you! and thanx for the "cheater baked beans" chase. i've made annie's several time and i'm sure we'd enjoy your version as well--we both are fans of limas! and of COURSE your family must have those beautiful dills of yours! it just wouldn't be right, otherwise...i'm glad you and elery will be able to share the time together annie, and raise a toast to all that have gone before us. sometimes traditions change long before we are ready for them to do so... i was going to try out one other new dish this year--an apple and cranberry sauce. it smelled so good while it was cooking that i even toyed with the idea of making some little pastry cups and adding in a teaspoon or two of the leftover sauce for later on. well--back to the drawing board. there wasn't room for everything in the fridge and it's been quite cold out so i put the covered sauce pan out on the deck and sort of forgot about it. we had just finished mixing the stuffing last night and time to rearrange things, and i remembered my sauce! so i went out to get it. man, that saucepan was HEAVY! well you boob. we'd had a driving rain the night before and that lid just couln't compete with the wind--my cranberry sauce is now soup! ladle anyone? anyway, a clink of my coffee cup to all--hope you have a wonderful and peaceful day regardless of what is or isn't on the menu this year!

I'm excited to cook this holiday, as it's been almost 23 years since my kids & I have been together 0n Turkey Day! DD & my grandsons won't arrive from NC until early Thanksgiving Eve and we'll be having the dinner at my son's-3 miles from me (now that I am back living in PA)!
