Sad day yesterday

| Our pack has lost our littlest member, as Molly left us early yesterday evening for the Rainbow Bridge. She was such a little trooper, never complained about a thing. She enjoyed being part of the pack and getting the chance to 'run with the dogs.'
Molly came to us three years ago, along with Patsy, from a friend-of-a-friend in the business of rescuing yorkies. We didn't know how old she was, the rescue group estimated she was around five but the vet thought maybe she was around seven. She'd been a 'puppy mill girl' in her previous life and we often told her that her 'hussy' days were over, she was a GOOD GIRL now. That was accompanied by belly rubs and scritches under her chin, of course, and she loved the attention. Molly was born with both of her back knees in a locked position, but she could sure get around! I'll never forget one day ... our tundra puppies were about four months old and 50 lbs ... they were fed from a big round dish and since we free-feed, the kibble formed a mound in that dish. Molly worked and worked herself up the side of that dish and climbed the 'mountain' of dry kibble. She then sat on top of it and yapped! at the puppies when they would try to eat any of THEIR food. LOL! She was playing Queen of the Mountain.
Molly was a Diva. She'd been born into the wrong life originally, but boy! did she take to being spoiled these last three years! She could communite so nicely, yipping and yapping when she needed to say something and doing it loud enough that you DID pay attention. She liked to cuddle in my arms when I work at home, and we had many talks about how hard it was for me to type one-handed while the other arm kept her snuggly and secure. She really didn't care what I had to say, she'd just burrow in and give a big doggy-sigh and then lay there until there was absolutely no feeling in my arm.
She had DH wrapped around her little paws. He bought her a screened-in carrying case at first, because originally her leg muscles wouldn't let her walk the entire yard so he carried her everywhere. He wanted her to experience everything the bigger kids did. He taught her to bark at the mailman and the UPS man, and to go in and out the doggy door. She loved to ride in the dog-van with him, he held her with his left arm 'just so,' so she could look out the window and bark at the joggers as they passed by. She was his baby and he loved her dearly.
Molly's end was so quick, we weren't prepared! She seemed to be a bit 'off' early yesterday and he didn't notice that she wasn't around while he worked on a project for DS. When she didn't show up to beg bites from the dinner table, it clicked ... and he found her in her bed, breathing heavily. We both loved her up and then she was gone. She had waited for us, to say goodbye.
When we adopt older, rescue dogs they typically have health problems (that's why the rescue groups call us, because no one else will take them in) as well as personality issues. They are literally starving for love and affection but at the same time they're so terribly afraid of it, it can take weeks or months for them to learn to trust us, and give love back. So when they do, it's HUGE. Molly was different, tho. She loved easily, like she was just waiting for us. And she made the most of her three years with us, learning everything she could on how to be a dog.
We'll miss you, baby girl. |

(((stoneybaloney))) I'm so sorry about your Molly. Sweet memories and a special place in our heart make their inevitable passing a little more bearable. Recently my littlest one passed unexpectedly and I miss her little body on my lap too. I've thought about getting a yorkie someday, a friend for my Bishon. When the time comes I'll have to ask you about them. More hugs.. |

| I am so sorry for your loss! Yorkies are so special. Amber had one for many, many years while she was still at home. We still miss her. Recently Amber adopted another little 4 month old yorkie from a rescue. She is so precious. She too has some hind leg problems, but they are not frozen so time will tell if she will have to have surgery. I can understand how much you miss your dear Molly. A big hug for you. Sue |
