... because when I wanted to navigate anywhere ... I got an ad for Foodsaver, including some contest.

After (trying to) cancel the screen, I moved my cursor carefully down to where I wanted to go, being careful not to pass over any boxes.

Actually, it did cancel ... and when I clicked on anything, the page loading was something like "eyereturn" ... and that dang "FOODSAVER" message reappeared.

T E N T I M E S!

At least!

The only way I could get rid of it was to depart entirely. As coming here was one of my first actions, and this one of the first sightings ... I came back.

This time.

But ... next time ... probably not.

I think that foodsaver ... or whoever arranged for their message to fly before my eyes unbidden about a dozen times ...

... has a vacuum in the head!

Oh, right! Theirs is in their bag!

I still agree with our traffic act ... that it's a privilege ... to drive on the public highway. Any person has a right, wearing a seat belt or not, to drive any vehicle, licensed or not, passed mechanical/emissions test or not, on private property ... but only if s/he owns it. Or has the owner's permission ... which makes that situation a "privilege" that must be granted, doesn't it? How would you like to have me tell you that I have a right to drive my car on your driveway? farm? In our area, a youth can only drive on the public road initially if s/he can pass a test showing that s/he knows many of the traffic laws ... and only if accompanied by a licensed driver, for some time, until s/he has proved her/his capacity to operate a vehicle within appropriate parameters (which until that time does not include driving on an expressway, or driving between midnight and 5 a.m., or with more than one other youth in the car, or with any trace whatever of alchol on his/her breath) at which time s/he is granted an unrestricted licence (except can't have more than 0.08% of alcohol on his/her breath). And if s/he transgresses those parameters, the privilege will be withdrawn ... for a period. In fact, I don't have a right to drive any vehicle on the highway, as is. When I purchase a vehicle, it must pass certain mechanical tests and limited emission tests before the government allows me to put a licence plate on it, and if I am caught driving it on a public road without a licence plate, I have some serious consequences to face, regardless of whether I possess a driving licence. Actually, if I don't pay a fee before my birthday next year, the "right", "privilege" or whatever we choose to call it, will expire, and if I put it on the road the next day, there'll be consequences that I won't like (if I'm caught by certain designated persons policing the rules). Plus, every couple of years, it must re-pass an emissions test and if it doesn't, they won't accept my fee in order for me to continue to exercise my "right" ... "privilege" ... whatever ... to continue to operate it on the public roads (but I can operate it on my own farm, even if it doesn't pass the emissions test). If it's been through an accident and an evaluator assesses that it has suffered structural, rather than merely cosmetic damage, I will not be allowed the "right" ... "privilege" to continue to have a licence on it. But this issue is beside the point ... my suggestion here was that everyone choose to make a distinct effort to re-evaluate and most likely upgrade their driving knowledge and skills. Probably we upgrade our computers oftener than re-evaluate/upgrade our driving skills. But the choice not to re-evaluate/upgrade our computer will hardly ever be responsible for someone's death or serious injury, whether that of others or our own. ole joyful

Hi again, senior gal ... ... wow! when I saw the title of the thread ... I thought ... "What a quick reply!". And, now that I read the substantial missive, written in that short time ... it looks as though I'm not referring to the same husband that you were caring for when you joined Gardenweb. But ... a great story! Thanks for sharing (with this old fart)! I met my ex-, an Iowa gal, on a blind date when she, who'd transferred from Iowa State to Cornell (hospital diet program) met me, a missionary who'd helped refugees re-establish in Korea just after the Korean War ... ... and she wasn't my date. We began seeing one another ... and there was talk of marriage ... but I suggested that she finish her degree, which she did, then travelled to Korea, where we were married, with no member of either family in attendance. Son born there, has dual citizenship, and the Japanese shopgirls went ga-ga over his fine, flaxen hair when we were en route home when he was about 20 mos. Daughter born here ... Sue back to her career when she entered kindergarten, worked as second head and head of food service in a substantial psych. hosp. near here. We were together for 11 years, apart for 40 years. When there was talk of closing her hosp. or a similar one nearby ... she took early retirement, had 10 years to have a ball ... ... and she, who'd fed millions - ironically, contracted colon cancer, died 7 years ago, at 66. "Kids" (50ish) said that in the ordinary course of things, she'd have retired the year before, and I added that she'd have been sick for most of that ... ... but, having taken early retirement ... she'd had 10 years to have a ball (including travelling in her RV from FL to TX between about mid-Dec. to mid-Mar. - and to AZ when daughter lived there). Susan - if you scroll down to the bottom of the page there is a heading "Learn more about in-text links on this page here"

If you go to that page GW gives instructions on how to eliminate all the green highlighted words.

maire cate - I tried that and the message I got from GW was that the link didn't work, and to try some other mumbo-jumbo. That, also, didn't work. So, I just try to navigate my way around all those Intelli Links...they're just NOT intelligent so I can slip around them. But they're almost enough for me to stop coming to GW....I know, I know.....no big loss, eh?

I have found that writing to Tamara after hitting "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page has always brought a resolution to my problem. Worth a try?

Just install ad block plus on your browser, there is a version available for all the different browsers. No reason to put up with any of it and your pages will load much faster. Just pick the ad block plus for the browser you use, IE, Firefox, Chrome,.

Could have sworn I posted about adblock too, but evidently didn't hit submit. I lost it due to an update earlier in the week and it made a huge difference. In fact so much that I just sent them a donation.

unfortunately the ads pay for our privilege of playing here on the Garden web. Most of them are very annoying and seems like they could find a better way but still those ads pay the bills and I guess we need to keep that in mind.

I'm so glad to have Adblock but I know OJ uses the library computers, so he has no control over those ads. Hopefully the librarians can help him out.

Okay, I have Adblock Plus but I still get those damned green words. I use FF, and the ABP icon at top of screen is red. How do I add the green words (not sure if its Vibrant, Intelli-text....or whatever) to the blocked list.

I just can't do it and I'm fed up every time my cursor hits one of them.

HELP......please.

Try running your cursor around the edges of the green ads and see if a little flag pops up that says block if so click on it to add it to the adblock plus list. Do you have the easylist filter added to your adblock plus? Go into the adblock plus settings for the ability to add subscription filters and to select specific type of ads. In the settings there is an option to allow certain ads make sure you don't have that allowed.
Lots of options in the settings area.

Umm...good advice raven. After some serious fiddling around with AdBlock Plus I have managed to keep them at bay. Hopefully it'll last and stay away. Thanks.

Only very rarely do I have to cope with the pop-up ads.

The green type don't click with me and I don't with them - I just read through them.

Happened again today - the "Foodsaver" stuff on "Facebook".

I have enough vacuum in my head, now - don't need any more around my house!

So - I left ... again ... this session.

Ggg-r-r-r-um-p-p!
