| Why all of a sudden would my FN key not work? I can't mute/unmute the sound which I use often. The brightness button works though for the monitor.
I'm afraid to touch anything else, because I don't know what they do. But I like the mute button. Windows 7, asus laptop |

| you can always mute by clicking on the small speaker icon down by the clock and selecting mute there. Try pressing shift + numlock, to toggle the Fn feature If you can not get it back as it was, if this is something that just suddenly changed, you can always just do a simple system restore to the day before or some previous restore point when it was working properly. |

| Thanks Raven, I had already done one system restore, and it didn't change anything. I did a restore from October, and now it works! |

| Often it can be as simple as dust or pet hair. Compressed air and a brush can clean it up or pop the keys up and clean under them. If you leave your keyboard exposed all the time it'll get quite dirty. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes not and sometimes you have to press hard or push a certain way. If it happens again, try cleaning the keyboard, or do it as a maintenance thing. |
