Senior Discounts

I sent this to some of you whose e-mail address I have, but thought I'd share here, too. Good to know! My SisIL sent it to my e-mail.

Some for as young as 50! Go for it!

Senior Discounts

Keep this list - - - and Send a copy to your senior friends and relatives.

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 gets 10% off everything on the menu, every day.

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.

This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .

This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family, too.

Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55. If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for free.

YOU must ASK for your discount !

RE: Senior Discounts

You can also get discounts with the AAA card and the AARP card which sometimes are better.
Thanks for the list.
Also, if you go to Canada they will give discounts too. Just ask.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

Thanks I had a list like this but lost it. Be sure to ask sometimes eating places will already have a SR meal

RE: Senior Discounts

Marie-ndcal, the discounts that require an AARP card are so noted on the list. No mention of AAA, which we also belong to. I'm assuming that if it doesn't list a particular card, you don't need one, or they don't honor AAA or AARP. (That's an assumption--guess we could always ask!)

That National Park Gold card is a must for retirees with an RV/camper who plan to travel and see those beautiful parks. A one-time $10 purchase and you get free entry for yourself and everyone else in the car/van/RV. We sure did use ours when we could travel easier.

Thanks for posting!

Kohl's must have changed their policy, I got a senior's discount four years ago at age 56 after a cashier asked to see my driver's license. I was paying cash so was puzzled why he needed to see it. When I asked, he said, it's Senior Discount day and you just made it. :-)

RE: Senior Discounts

Shoppers' Drug Mart (Canadian chain) offers 10% or 20% off for most items not on sale on certain days, usually specified in their flyers, often third Thursday of the month.

There are some others ... but I can't remember specifics at the moment: I'm getting old, you know!

Haven't heard of any discounts from the tax people, though.

RE: Senior Discounts

Well, OJ, don't we all wish we'd hear that kind of good news from the tax people???

I don't know how many of the companies listed apply to you in Canada--I hope some of them that you can use, anyway.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

Thx, patti, I received your email yesterday :o)

RE: Senior Discounts

On Wednesday I received my first ever senior discount. The cashier was ringing me up and then said that I'm not 55 or over, am I? I was kind of caught off guard but responded that yes, I am 55 but it was the first time I had ever been asked. It struck me as funny and I was laughing telling people that I just received my first ever senior discount.

No one laughed with me, or congratulated me. I must have looked like as idiot. But at least I don't look 55! LOL

RE: Senior Discounts

I can get discount train tickets. If I buy a ten-trip, each ticket is 85 cents, during off-peak hours. Love that! You have to be 65 though, and sadly, I am.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

And I've learned to ask if they offer senior discounts.

Ross's on Tuesday's which is senior day, doesn't give you the senior discount unless you tell them. duh

Had that happen to a friend of mine.

RE: Senior Discounts

Publix senior discount is not everywhere. Publix was founded here in Lakeland FL many years ago. When I saw it on the list for discounts, I asked and was told that it is only in areas where they are opening new markets or where other grocery stores all do it. So you may want to ask if it matters where you shop there or elsewhere.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

Mimi's restaurant gives 10% for AAA members, but you have to ask.

My hair turned white in my 40s, and I used to get timid inquiries from cashiers who did not want to insult me. I turned down discounts for years, and now that I am clearly a senior, places rarely offer the discounts to me.

Your list has one restaurant we eat at weekly, and we did not know that they have discounts, so thank you.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

The Goodwill I went to in TX and the one here in FL have both given me 10% off senior discount. I have to ask.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

Here's another list that includes more, including Culver's, Dairy Queen and others. 196 total.

 o
RE: Senior Discounts

Kmart give 20% discount to 50+? Is that everyday or just a certain day/days of the month?

Thanks for the list, I'm going to copy and save it.
