I think after the 2 year commitment, you can turn the data usage off and on as you wish and pay $10/30 for every day you have it on.

Phones work the same way, a new contract is $30/month for 2 years.

I assumed so, the required $10/month x 24 is simply to have a connection, that doesn't include data usage. The tablet becomes just another participant in a share everything plan. It's the same as with the activation of a new phone for a new person, $30/month x 24 without considering the cost (if any) for the phone or data usage.

On this plan you're describing, I think how it works is that after two years, the $10/month data connection becomes optional, you pay for only the days you've told them to permit connection. You call them to turn on and turn off. So 2 weeks per month = $5, 7 days = $2.50. Plus data usage counted toward your plan's allowance

Double check, i could be wrong.

PS - this tablet has a Verizon branding so who knows who makes it and who knows how good it is. Me, I'd go with something else.

Tablets that have the wifi + 3g/4g which allow you to use wi-fi in a non-wifi environment...such as in a car...only allow you to turn it on in 30 day increments. You cannot turn on for 10 days (of that 30) in one month, 10 days in the next month, 10 days in the next month and so on....once you turn it on, the 30 day clock starts ticking down. Or, at least that is how mine works as well as my daughter's and we have two different carriers. It became far more economical for me to just add PERSONAL HOTSPOT to my iPhone and the iPhone became my wifi network. That only costs me $10 a month AND, more importantly, allowed me to purchase my NEXT iPad in the wi-fi only version which was $125 or so less money{{gwi:9241}}.

"Who knows how good it is"...well, for me, it should be pretty good, cuz I have no idea what to even use it for. I'm jumping on the tablet bandwagon, and I figured in order to do so as cheaply as possible, would to get one for free with rebate and no activation fee. I bought it through my nephew who works for Verizon. He adjusted my plan, so that I will not be paying an extra $10 a month.
The two year contract is not an extension of my already existing account...it is for the tablet only.
So....sounded like a good deal to get my feet wet in the tablet arena.

Jean--that nephew is a keeper! You should ask him whether it comes with a free tutorial by him!

Raven, thank you for the link. I know diddly about tablets, but so many here say they would be lost without theirs, I figured, why not?

I look forward to playing with it, and ordering books to read on it. I can do that on my phone, but the screen is so small, it's really ridiculous to try and read.
