Is it possible to color just a few rice krispies?

I was at a Bazaar yesterday and one of the things on the bake table was rice krispie/marshamllow treats in the shape of Christmas trees. They had a few red and a few green rice krispies mixed in with the plain ones. They looked so very nice. Is there away to color just a few and if so how would I do it?

I would presume a bit of food coloring mixed with a little water, put in a zip lock bag with a few krispies and shaken well would work if they were quickly taken out and spread out to dry. What do you suggest?

Maybe you can buy colored ones at this time of year?

I wouldn't try coloring them myself--no matter how you do it, they're going to get mushy.

Just buy the box of red and green ones. It's going to save you a lot of work and hassle.

Here's a few more that were open this morning: another blossom of Soleil d'Or Its parent Persian Yellow, which was rather hard to photograph--the petals kept reflecting too much light. another of Persian Yellow's decendents, Harrison's Yellow. Looks quite similar doesn't it? Actually Persian Yellow's blooms are a bit larger. Stanwell Perpetual is very chlorotic this year, so much so that its blooms are white instead of pink. Its actually going to a new home later today, hopefully it will be happier there. Reine des violettes is not looking so violet--I guess is got too hot too quickly to see the really purple blooms it had last autumn. and one more blossom from the Rosa santa Richards not Andrews band befoe I remove it and the rest of the buds and give it a chance to grow. This blossom shows off a bit more of its pink tint than the last post did. I had a few more blooms, but the one of my very favorite rose, Geranium Red, was looking rather battered and I refuse to photograph him looking less than his best. But oh, the fragrance!! Speaking of which, I've always heard Persian Yellow and Harison's Yellow had very bad fragrances, but I found them mild and pleasant.

I googled rice krispie marshmallow fluff and this is off the fluff website. (there were others out there if you're interested: Marshmallow Fluff Treats * 1/4 c. margarine or butter * 1 Jar (7 1/2oz) Marshmallow Fluff * 5 cups crispy rice cereal Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat. Add Marshmallow Fluff and cook over low heat about 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add crispy rice cereal. Stir until well coated. Using buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into buttered 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Cut into squares when cool. Yield: 24 squares, 2 x 2 inches. MICROWAVE MARSHMALLOW FLUFF TREATS Place Fluff and margarine in 2 1/2 qt. microwave safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH for 3 minute, stirring each minute. (Based on 700-watt microwave oven.) Stir in cereal until coated. Using a buttered spatula or waxpaper, press mixture evenly into buttered 13 X 9 inch pan. Cut into 2 X 2 squares. Yield: 24 squares. CUSTOMIZED TREATS Depending on your taste, try customizing your Marshmallow Fluff Treats recipe by adding small pieces of nuts, chocoate, dried fruit, unsweetened cocoa, candy bay, and/or other ceral. To the rice cereal add up to one cup of your customized selection and blend in thoroughly before adding to the cooked ingredients. Off to make some for me, oh, I mean the kiddos.

Lynxe, that kitchen is long gone. It was in terrible disrepair. The laminate counter was completely separated from the wall, many of the cabinets were separating from the wall. Most of the drawers were broken and not even usable. The linoleum floor was stained. It also had a separate utility room for storage, and a washer and dryer. We decided to grab the space from that to make the kitchen larger. We ended up removing 2 walls, one of which was load bearing and we had to put in a lam beam to keep the house structurally sound. The kitchen is now completely open to the dining room. I will add more pictures of the kitchen when I get a chance. It is not the typical "period/cottage" kitchen that is so prevalent in magazines. Since it is open to the rest of the house I wanted something a little more warm, and a little more french country. I love how it is turning out, it is not yet complete as my DH has done everything with the exception of the counters himself. Sorry about the toilet lid, didn't realize it was such a no-no. If you notice there is also a little pink plastic microphone in the pic, I suspect I know who left the lid up.

MisoMaster chickpea does not have soy. Soy-free, gluten-free https://great-eastern-sun.com/stuff/miso-master-organic-kosher-soy-free-chickpea-miso- Do take note that the 16oz container is a few dozen servings. Very concentrated. Even after opening the fridge life is 6-12 months...depending on your consistent temp. I buy the 8oz and just mark the lid. I almost always have 2-3 varieties from dark to the white, using them for different things. I've never had one go bad, even well past that date. Also important to never let your miso 'cook'. For a simple MisoHappy soup, i scoop a small tsp, (your silverware tsp), and rest it into a small coffee/tea cup. Bring your kettle to a simmer, then let it rest a few minutes to cool down. Then pour over your miso and stir...then let it rest, stir again. Takes a few to soften the miso. -If i'm adding anything, like green onion, ginger i chop/mince that while waiting for the kettle. I also like some chopped fresh cilantro with the stems and a squeeze of lime. (a nice, what i call, 'me-so-happy' breakfast broth) -For a heartier lunch/brunch...i prep the miso the same way, in a small cup, but in a separate heat proof bowl or small saucepan, i pour boiling water from the kettle over some rice noodles and veggies cut very thin or thin slices. The noodles will soften and the veggies, like carrots, celery, etc will blanch. Pre-cooked slices of chicken or beef could also be added to that.(could be leftovers from the fridge)...then add the miso to that when the noodles are ready. (varies with different brands how long the noodles need to soak). -Both above simple soups can be prepped in the time it takes for a kettle to boil, : ) (my supper recipe is complicated and time consuming...) Tried to simplify it but it requires a bit of prep...basically a Vietnamese Pho.)

You should be able to find Christmas Rice Krispies, which sounds like what they used. I make them every year with the grands.

thanks for the quick replies. I have never seen the boxes of colored ones but I will watch and see if they are in our stores. I'll also check the bulk food stores. Great if any of them do.

I haven't noticed them in the stores - but I haven't been down the cereal isle the last few grocery trips.

I often add some "sprinkles" into my Rice Krispie treats - just toss in a tablespoon or so of sprinkles and it looks very festive. That might do the trick for you if you can't find the Holiday Krispies. YOu can usually find the green and red sprinkles easily at this time of year.

Ivamae-they'll be with the cereal in any grocery store-big thing at this time of year in any Ontario grocery store

Thanks so much everyone. I just came back from getting groceries and while out I went to the bulk food store. They had all kinds of things. I settled on some sprinkle type that is the shape of little Christmas trees and is about the size of one rice krispie. I think they should be great. I appreciate all the help.

That will look super cute Ivamae! I stir mine in after I have the Krispies mixed with the marshmallow mixture.

I started making my Krispie treats in the microwave and it is so quick! I nuke the marshmallows and butter in a large glass bowl (biggest pampered chef batter bowl). I put the Krispies in large plastic bowl. I pour the melted marshmallows over and stir it together. Just takes a couple minutes total to make.

Is it possible to color just a few rice krispies?
