Fold. Dr. Oz had a segment on this where I discovered that women crush, men fold, for what it's worth.

For paper towels, wad them up and throw them in the trash.
For toilet paper, wrap twice around the hand, remove from fingers, use it,
then flush it down the toilet.

I'm a crusher; DH is a folder. I had never really thought about this either.

I had also never thought about the over vs. under. When we first got married, I would just replace the toilet paper roll without paying attention to over vs. under. DH would just take it off and then set it on top the holder without replacing. He honestly doesn't care if it's on the holder. Drove me crazy! I finally said something to him. That was when he informed me that I was putting it on the wrong way sometimes. I informed him that I didn't know there was a wrong way. LOL!! He says it must pull from on top. Ever since, I've made sure to put it on that way and he leaves it.

It is funny some of the odd little habits we develop.

lol snidely! If I'm getting tp off the roll to blow my nose, I'm a folder. For the other use, crusher.

Also I'm an over. If someone puts it under, I change it as soon as I notice it. Ugh, what a hang up, haha.

I'm a folder. After, I neither crush nor fold but deposit directly in the toilet bowl by releasing my original hold!

LOL at Snidely's post. Sue, I remember the times we had the discussion of over or under. I always hang the roll to come "over" the top, not down along the wall. I have a free standing dispenser in my bathroom but I still want the roll coming over.

The difference in folding/crushing may depend on the part of the human anatomy being cleaned: Two 'parts' for females; one for males.

I'm not going to elaborate -- it would be 'over the top'. LOL

I am a folder. I also have to have our tp over. Hubby wants it under. I go into the bathroom and he has turned it around, I of course fix it like its suppose to be. Only to find when I return again it back the other way. We have been doing this back and forth for at least 2 months now. Neither one of us has mentioned it to the other..

When you have it under, and pull the paper it lifts the roll a bit and pulls it slightly forward, so that it rolls more easily, but when you pull the over, it tends to push the roll down, possibly causing it to bind a bit.

Anyone remember my story about the research result on the recycling of toilet paper ... which was actually a misnomer, as it was actually "reusing" ... unless you call rolling loose paper back on the roll "reicycling".

In discussion with son and lady friend last night, they (i.e. "she", a grandma) said that under is better, cause if grandkids come along and pull their hand down over the roll - it shoots paper out the bottom in a most interesting fashion.

Cats/dogs ditto.

But the kid ain't a gonna push the hand up over the roll.

And if you ever hear of a dog/cat doing so - please let me know: I'll chalk it up to another wonder of the world!

since your posting I've been thinking on this. I find when you use a bathroom that is not your own (in stores) they have the very cheap paper, you have to crush theirs. The better thicker paper you can easily fold.

Am I wrong about a difference is use of toilet paper by the two genders? Only gals need to 'blot', right? So...an all-male household would use less than half the amount of T.P.?

When I babysat my DGD (age 3.5) on Monday, she used their powder room, then announced, "Grandma, there's no toilet paper!" A check of another bathroom discovered another empty roll. I handed her a piece of paper towel from the kitchen. She was shocked -- *shocked*! (But she used it.) Then we had a treasure hunt all through the house, seeking the stash of T.P. and finally finding it in a basement closet. (No wonder they run out if you have to go to the basement to find it!)

No, not fond of Reader's Digest....except when I am in the doctor's office and that is all they have to read.

BTW, since we're on this subject, when I broke my left wrist, I found out that it makes a difference what hand you become accustomed to using to....uh...take care of business. I am right handed, but when I was less than five years old, I had two very serious injuries to my right hand. I had a 3rd degree burn and later, a gunshot wound with a .38. So, many of the things that little kids learn then, I learned to do with my left hand, and continued to use my left hand. For example, I learned to use scissors with my left hand. And bathroom duties, left hand.

I couldn't believe how hard it was to use my right hand to do that. Does it make a difference to most people what hand you use...or are you ambidextrous when it comes to using the toilet paper???

Same hand for the TP business - I figure that I have a right to do that. Amazing how thin they can make such paper ... in a discount store today, I pulled a long sheet, folded once ... then folded twice, to get what depth I figured would be appropriate.

Didn't think of wadding.

For the hose -related end of the game, left hand when standing ... right when seated.

Go figure.

I never thought about it before: crush or fold. I'm curious; Does it really matter? Who wants to know? And for what reason? I wad.

I would not fold now that toilet paper has dropped to a 4 inch width. If I folded a 4 inch paper, ti would not be wide enough to cover the subject.

Jemdandy, the tissue company might want to know if their product is soft enough or thick enough to fold or crush. I'm sure there's a reason for the question.
