My Dusty is Gone

Last night Dh came home early from work so he could spend a little more time with him. We lit a candle and sat with Dusty on our laps. DH kept thinking maybe the vet could do something but we both knew it wasn't to be. Dusty curled up at my feet when I went to bed.

This morning was rough but at 8:30 we took him to the vet. DH said his goodbyes because he did not want to be in the room at the end. I, on the other hand, would not let him be alone. I told the vet what was happening and she said that his kidneys and liver had failed. She gave him a sedative to relax him and then gave me time to say goodbye.

He looked so angleic at the end. I know he met with EKO and they are once again playing.

DH just left because he had promised to help a coworker move and he is bringing home Smokee....a new brother for OKE to love.

Will post photos of them in a few days.

Thank you everyone for your love, hugs and prayers. I am going to go have a good cry now.

So sorry, but it was a kind act. Dusty is at peace and is not suffering. I also stayed with my Sheena until she was gone. I figured the least I could do was not let her leave this world with strangers, although they were very, very caring. I was crying and I made everyone else cry, too. It also helped me to see what an easy transition it is. They simply drift off.

It's nice that you are getting a new little friend. Enjoy your new kitty and the good memories of Dusty.

This is botrytis blight (Gray mold) Don't blow on this since you are actually spreading the spores to other plants. This is caused by Botrytis cinerea. This spreads very quickly. So disbud all the flowers on this plant and any which develop on surrounding plants. Spores survive in the soil during the winter as tiny black sclerotia surrounded in dead plant tissue. These spores are spread by air currents and water in spring and summer. This causes plants parts to rot. The cause is from high humidity or poor air circulation, low temperatures, low light intensity and overfertilization with nitrogen. If you have just a few plants with Botrytis, pinch off the flowers--all the flowers and see if it develops again. If symptoms begin again, you can pay a lot for chemicals to correct it, or throw the few plants away and start again. If you have a large collection, buy Benoyml one quarter teaspoon to one pint of water. Sulfer or even bulb dust can help control this fungus if you pour small amounts into small pots among your plants. I don't think it is powdery mildew, but in case it is, you can combat it by painting each affected place with a solution of 9 parts water, one part milk. Or you can use Lysol Spray. Nancy

I am using several purples in our house. I am in the midst of painting most of our rooms so don't have completed pix yet, but we have a very deep dark purple for den and dining room walls (open plan, 2 walls total). It is Purple rain by BM and is a deep velvet purple. It looks amazing paired with bright white trim and I can't wait to see the white Roman shade installed there with it (and eventually see it when the floors get refinished darker and the furniture moves back in). I did a color like patty_cake's plum dandy for our bedroom ceiling (am not at home with the color names handy) and will stencil on the east and west walls of our bedroom in it over a pale gray and also use it inside our bedroom closet. The only one I am not so certain about it our bedroom ceiling. I was trying to break out of the box and do a colored ceiling (inspired by GWers), but I will have to see how I feel about it after the stencil is up and the room is put together. I may have gone too far with that one and may either go lighter, much darker, go white or add a silver metallic glaze to tone it down. It is pretty bold on our vaulted ceiling as it is. We have a light-medium lavender in our kitchen and a very pale lavender in our master bath (mirage white with a hint of the ceiling color added in to make sure the color tone worked). I used more of the bedroom ceiling color mixed with white ceiling paint for inside our coat closet as well. That makes 4 different shades (although our sons' room also has 2 dark bright purple walls with 2 less dark bright green ones, so we really have 5 purples, lol). Our living room, laundry room and hallway will have a perky green color (wales green at 75%). I didn't start out with a plan to paint so much purple, but they came out so nice I just kept going. I live with 2 boys and my dh and it is not terribly girly because none of our furniture or accessories will be purple. We are using a lot of white, gray, black and green with it. We have a very open plan so whatever color we chose would have to flow through several rooms. Reading over this post, it sounds funny, but IRL, it works nicely. I'll be posting as soon as we are further along and can get rid of all the drop cloths, cans of paint and construction debris all over and when we can move our stuff back up out of the bsmt and make it look less empty. I also have to get the stickers off the windows, install WTs and basically decorate from scratch.

As others have said, it's powdery mildew. Unfortunately you've got two different types of PM as the type that affects cucurbits won't affect tomatoes and vice versa. Control is the same. Start using a fungicide. Here come the tears. I feel your pain. I have to say, my last dog just died right in front of me....totally unexpected. My dog before that, I stayed with when the Vet gave her the needle and I must say I found it a comfort to see her go so peacefully. It still takes a lot of grieving. However, even though saying goodbye hurts so much, it doesn't out weigh all those years of joy and unconditional love. Great big hug!

As hard as it is to say goodbye, you did the best thing. Animals bear their pain stoically, and we never really know the extent they may be suffering. It is an act of love and kindness to help them along when the time comes.

Good for you, getting a new kitty. It doesn't replace the love you had for Dusty, but giving another cat a home is a wonderful tribute to Dusty. Wishing you many happy years with Smokee.

I am so sorry. I could read the posts because it is so heartbreaking to lose a pet. My dog is almost 15 years old and I just dread the day. I lost acat a few months ago and it was hard.

Thank you everyone. Your kind words really help. We didn't get smokee Saturday though. Couldn't get ahold of the owner. Right now I'm not sure if we will take him or not. Waiting a while until it all sinks in. Will keep you posted
