Driving! We will be driving to Oklahoma on Thursday and have our Thanksgiving meal on Saturday with the whole family. My husband's family should all be there. His mother is 92 this year and still wants to do some cooking. I am doing the whole meal, she will be sitting down taking it easy and enjoying the family. I did the same thing last year, we take the rv there and park on the property beside the house. I do most of it in the rv.
I have one of the big electric roaster ovens I set up on a table right outside the rv and I set up the crockpot there too. I use my Aroma cooker inside.
It works out pretty well

I always get a smoked turkey and a smoked spiral sliced ham, so just need to warm them up.

I don't look forward to the drive there and back, I am afraid traffic will be heavy.

I am cooking for about 20 people this time.
Some of the other menu items sweet potato casserole with glazed pecans, cream cheese green bean casserole, corn on the cob, dirty rice /rice dressing, broccoli slaw, macaroni salad, cranberry salad, lemon chess pies, oh and of course gravy, I am sure I have forgotten some oh like croissants.

I left plenty in the fridge for my house sitting friend!

Hosting here at my house. Right now I am making vegetable stock for a gluten free vegetarian stuffing. Both DD's are vegetarians, one more strict than the other.
I ll make this stuffing today as I won't have room tomorrow. I'll probably make the tofurkey after dinner tonight.
I made two pumpkin pies this morning.
Right now it's snowing. I hope things cleR up for tomorrow for my sister's drive here.

My daughter hosted Thanksgiving dinner for 12 on Sunday because she and her family are spending the next three days in NYC. So tomorrow will be just another Thursday--which is probably just as well because snow has been falling heavily all day and we're expecting up to a foot of it.

The kasha stuffing sounds good! I've never had it, but I love buckwheat groats.

We'll drive about 2.5 hours to the missus' sister's house. We will contribute some dilly beans from July.

The missus and I have a tradition, we watch stuff on TV in the morning while sipping some bubbling wine. I'll nap a bit and then we head north. Her family doesn't eat until 4 or 5, so it can be a leisurely drive up and back.

We'll get home in time for me to shower and go to bed.

The first quiet day that I can see for just the two of us to celebrate is New Years Day. I try to keep that day just for us and a prime rib - some years it works and some it doesn't, we have a lot of drop in company any more.

Tomorrow will be turkey and prime rib for 14 at my sisters 100 miles away. 16 if the couple who joins us there some years is coming, no family close by - I haven't heard this year but they are agreeable company and I enjoy them. My brother plans to bring and cook the roast.

Mine is a family of pie eaters and I'm baking 5 today. Have a way to go yet, just the blackberry is finished and cooling. Appetizers aren't done yet either but I have the whole day and I've done some of the prepping, measuring. I'll make the gravy for my sis when we get there. DH will usually take charge in the kitchen when dinner is over and with my nephew's help will do most of the clean up....not that it won't need a little fine tuning when he's done ;)

We're going to spend the night at a nearby hotel, for no other reason than to spend a little more time with my sis - no shopping plans or joining crowds on Friday.

Small and simple and always lots of laughs. Having Thanksgiving with my little sis and her hubby. Under a 10 minute drive to her house.

I am hosting about for about 14 people. My daughter came home from college with two Study Abroad students. So far today I have cut up veggies for the stuffing, cut up veggies for a tray, and made a spinach dip, Tonight I am going to brine my turkey and make the beginnings of some crusty bread. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Alisande, I made the dressing for the first time last year in honor of "Thanksgivukkah" and we loved it. So did about half of our guests, not a bad percentage, lol. Mine will have chopped celery, onions, assorted mushrooms (the dark kinds), too.

For our Thanksgiving everyone will get to eat exactly what they want because we are eating out!!! Yay! It will be an easy day for us.

We are having Thanksgiving dinner at our oldest granddaughter's. I only have to take chicken and noodles, candied sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. I have two big pies in the oven now, one is a ten inch and the other is an eleven inch one. Will have one to take and one for here. We will eat around one or so. No evening meals, I don't have evening meals that big if I can help it. I don't know what all they will have, will also have birthday cake for our son in law Kevin. His birthday is the 30th. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

It will be just dad and me this year. I will either make a pork roast with apple, onion and sage gravy, some mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. Or I will pull the small tenderloin roast from the freezer. Dad does not like turkey. I may also make a small side of stuffing, just for me.

Dessert will be pumpkin bread pudding or a cranberry upside down cake. His choice as I really don't care this year.

The kids and I ate at Cracker Barrel on Saturday. They weren't happy but I was, no leftovers and tons of cooking for me. I was going to do crab cakes but when I saw one pound of crab meat at Costco was $25 I decided to go out to eat.

Tomorrow I'm working so we're having a lunch of finger foods this year at work. I'm getting ready to make some ham and turkey roll ups and bake some pumpkin/pecan muffins for "breakfast".

I am hosting this year for about 12. I have been working ahead and it's so much less stressful.

Last week I made and frozen the stuffing, gravy, rolls, butternut squash puree. The last few days I've made the cranberry sauce, desserts. Today I'm making the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, creamed corn and stuffed mushrooms. Then all I will have to do tomorrow is roast the turkey and heat everything up! I'm looking forward to a neat kitchen and being able to visit with people, which is stark contrast to last year where I made everything the same day!

I am hosting 34. today I made pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, shrimp dip and a mashed potato casserole. Tomorrow I will stuff and roast the turkey. My husband will bake 2 hams. Two sisters-in-law will each bring a eg, an appetizer and a dessert. Another bought the shrimp and the veal. My son will cook the cutlets in the garage. I've been doing this for years and the group keeps getting bigger, all my husband's family. in the past there has been no help with the set up and little with the clean up, tomorrow I will tell them where the tables and chairs are and they can set them up. And I am using paper plates and napkins. My mother died a year ago this week and I am missing my family and the way we did things.

Same thing we've done for the last 27 years...

Take the kids (now in their mid and late 20s) to Knott's Berry Farm amusement park in So Calif, eat a wonderful, filling early afternoon meal, walk around the annual craft fair, visit parts of the park that are open that day and head home to a spotlessly clean house around 8pm.

Never gets old. :-)

I will be cooking for dinner on Friday. All of my kids and grand kids will be here. Sad to say, at my age, it takes me two days to fix a big meal, but I love to have them come home. I hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving.

Jodi, that sounds like sooooo much fun! If I lived closer I'd say, " Count us IN!"

Pam, this will be a difficult Thanksgiving for you emotionally, I can tell. What a crowd....I'm glad you've decided to insist on some help and go with the disposables.

There will be 11 of us, our kids and their spouses and 2 grandsons and my sister and BIL. DS will bring the vegetable and desserts and DIL will bring her wonderful yeast rolls. I will roast a fresh turkey stuffed with sage dressing, candied sweet potatoes, twice baked potatoes, pumpkin bread, gravy, cranberry sauce and Glenda's corn pudding. If it isn't too warm in the afternoon, we will make mulled cider.

Then at Christmas there will be only 5 of us with DD and DS celebrating with their in-laws. The day after our DD and her family will arrive for a belated Christmas and grandson's birthday. This year they will take her in-laws to a rented cabin in the mountains for their celebration. Hope it snows for them.

About 6 weeks ago I started working in the kitchen of a Long Term Care facility. I will go to work by 5:15 and get off at 2:45. DH and I will probably have left over turkey dinner from Sunday. I have to work that shift on Friday too and then we will go to Bismarck for the weekend. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Holidays just aren't the same since our parents have passed on.

For the first time, we are getting take out. My husband usually does most of the meal, but he suggested that we buy it this year. My mother and two of our kids will be here. Friday morning we are flying to Atlanta to see the other two kids. No worries about clean up right before we leave town.
