Jian Ghomeshi

I was shocked to hear about this scandal. I was reading some of the fodder on Cosby and heard about Ghomishi's firing from the CBC. I have listened to "Q" and loved the show. What a creep this guy is! For some reason I can't copy any of the stories to link them here. Just google his name to see what's going on if you don't already know.

I never heard of him, but I Googled and clicked on his Facebook posting about the situation. It's long and I didn't read it all, but you might find it interesting. He gives his side of the story in detail. If he's telling the truth, it sounds like a "Fatal Attraction" kind of mess.

Oh I really doubt he is telling the truth! There are just too many stories covering a very long period of time for him to be telling the truth. Read up on more of the victims' stories please, you'll see what a scumbag this guy is.

There was a thread discussing him not too long ago.

I came upon a few of his shows through searches. They were shows in which his guest(s) were individuals of interest to me.

He seemed like a lightweight as an interviewer. His demeanor and questions were noticeably toady and superficial. There are enough talented people in this field, I'm sure whomever gets chosen for his show's slot will provide a better program for CBC's audience.

    (Edit for PS)

The alleged behavior is Inexcusable. It would seem that the guy has more than a few screws loose.

As with the current Bill Cosby uproar, or prior episodes with Bill Clinton, while a single allegation is nothing more than that, when the reports start to sound like a choir because they're so numerous, the presumption of innocence can start to fade.

I did read the FB post. I agree with Snidely here, the presumption of innocence starts to fade. There are too many other allegations. I liked his interviewing style. I guess I'm shocked because he didn't "sound" like a creepy misogynist. Nothing should surprise me anymore, but it still does.

I think I started a thread here when I asked why I was hearing less talented subs on Ghomeshi's public radio show. (I had just googled to figure out the spelling of his name before posting.) There was nothing about this scandal when I posted.

Within a few days this story broke. From what I read then, I thought it odd that two of the accusers appeared to have been willing to be alone with Ghomeshi *subsequent* to prior experiences of 'rough sex' with the man.

A person's private tastes are private matters, regardless of how perverse they seem to others...unless they are criminal under the law. It's difficult to prove or disprove 'consentual'. Should there be a trial, it would be impossible for Ghomeshi to 'win' unless his accusers' stories can be shown to be distorted and vindictive.

Remember when we didn't know so much about the private lives of people in the public eye?

I was shocked and disappointed to hear this information about Jian Ghomeshi. He was one of my favorite interviewers. I have no doubt that the woman accusing him are telling the truth. They are just too credible and have similar stories to be making things up. Both this situation and that of Bill Cosby are so difficult for the women who may have been victimized to speak out and self-identify in order for the truth to be heard. It's no wonder that more aren't heard from in these and similar situations.

Chisue, there are plenty of workplace situations of harassment. It's not just what he did in his private life.

I believe Cosby's accusers. His victims were white and by drugging them he was giving himself control over white people. UGH. Otherwise, why not just get a willing white woman? It was a sicko control thing. Too bad he won't get into trouble. Too much money.

I think there is a lot of things going on behind the scenes. I heard that the CBC gave him a chance to come clean and admit he was in the wrong. Before anything hit the media. Apparently he was arrogant and other inappropriate things to his boss's refusing to get help or agree that he had done anything wrong. I think it was his arrogance more than anything that led to his downfall. If we think that he is the only man that is high up in his field that is a total jackass we would be very disappointed. I think he just po'd the wrong person who let the truth be let out, instead of covering up and ignoring it.
Another point against this man was the fact that no co workers or peers and came out to support him. Someone interviewed stated that his was a jerk to work with yelling at co workers and treating people very poorly. So it was no surprise that there was no one to support him. You treat everyone like crap they will be waiting for you to fall. The old say about careful how you treat those on the way up cause they will be there when you fall or something like that. His fans dropped like flies as more and more information was brought forward. I didn't like his show and hope that the CBC will find someone who will better person and host.

"If we think that he is the only man that is high up in his field that is a total jackass we would be very disappointed"

And if you think that women don't act in an identical way, you'd be very disappointed too. There's no gender component to having power trips and acting like a jerk, in my experience.

Deeby, your race-based comments are offensive.

I wasn't aware of Ghomeshi's problems in the workplace. He must surely be an odd duck -- reflecting a Middle Eastern culture of male superiority; raised in Canada (LOL); and a former Rock Artist! "Twisted" seems a logical result.

I also found Deeby's post racist. Hope my post hasn't crossed a similar line, and you see that the part about Canada was meant to be droll.

Here is a link to the timeline of what is happening with him. The women coming forward aren't coming forward for fame or money. As Casey said he is a "scumbag" ha I used to think he was a gentle soul.

Here is a link that might be useful: Timeline

The "Q" program that he hosted was carried at least in part by NPR/PRI, as well, for some time.

He's a disgusting, repulsive pig. I always did think he was smarmy, but I didn't expect this. Not only did he sexually abuse at least one CBC staff person, he had violent pornographic pics and videos on his CBC issued smart phone. BIG no-no!

Oh, and I believe the video he showed management was on his work issued phone. It showed a woman he'd had a "consensual" (his description) sexual event with, very bruised and beaten. In fact she had a broken rib.
