how do you guys find these things it was adorable...that long neck sure comes in handy for a quick clean-up! passed it on to the grands...

,,,been watching this for a couple of weeks. He was on his feet within minutes for his birth... I just got a notice that Phoebe the hummingbird has been flying around her old nest and her honey has been playing around too so we may have Phoebe back within a few weeks too! ...her website is phoebeallens.com. My 6 year DGS and I have fun checking on all the animals - even Africam! Nothing going on at Phoebe's right now...

Just a note...the Nkorho Pan has been out of commission for several days and though it is finally back on, it's still not up to par. While it was down, I started spending more time at the Africam Tembe location. I've seen, in just the last few days: lions, a leopard, rhino, elephants, hyena, civit, a zillion different antelope species, wildebeest, lots of storks and ibis (and other birds), zebra, and a very special visit by three very rare African spotted wilddogs. It's nearly 10:00 a.m. where I am, and it is still daylight. Giraffes are browsing in the trees. Two are 'necking'...which can be an aggressive act. The Africams utilize infrared cameras so that we can watch the night-time activities around these water holes. That's when the predators come out. http://www.africam.com/wildlife/tembe_webcam

well live cam to what? there are thousands of live cams, to zoos, to Africa wildlife, to beaches, to New Orleans, you name it there are cams to watch. If you can be specific I can try to find some. I love to watch the ones at the beaches like Hawaii and just imagine I am there LOL! there are sites like this one that will list several different cams you can look at, be careful when searching for live cams however or you may find yourself in some questionable areas with live cams of the human animal variety! I still haven't seen Autumn nurse the baby. It seems that it is just chasing the mother all over to no avail. Apparently, bottle feeding is common with zoo-born giraffes. :-( It was amazing to watch that bag of wet bones fall to the ground yet end up chasing its mother all over the place in such a short period of time.

"I got my info from Wild Earth and Nat Geo Wild about lowering their heads for only 30 seconds." Two television shows. Can you cite which episodes? I have April's live feed in a window in the lower right corner of my monitor, and I have another window open that I'm using for genealogy research and researching info on whether or not a giraffe can bend over for longer than 30 seconds. Nowhere have I found any statements to support that. In fact, everything I have seen tonight supports my statement that giraffes have "a specially developed vascular system that prevents them from getting dizzy when they stand upright after having been bent down." Do a Google search, and if you find a reputable site that supports your statement, please post it. I can and will admit when/if I am wrong, but everything I've seen says that I am not wrong. This photo is from the Wikipedia.org entry for giraffes. (April and Oliver are Reticulated giraffes.)Edited to add:

Minnie, I watch that little boy for a while every day. He's been the cutest darned thing....getting more spunky every day. It's something else to see him scamper in circles around his mother.

Years ago we went to the Colorado Springs Zoo and they had a baby giraffe and he was adorable. Hard to believe it could become so big and tall once grown up.
