Carpet Cleaning Solution

I cannot remember if it was here , or on another garden web forum where somebody was raving about a product that they used in their carpet cleaning machine. I think, not positive, that it began with a K.

Anybody know what the name of this product is..I have got to clean carpet this weekend. Thanks.

I recall someone mentioning Folex. It is in a white bottle, I believe. I'm thinking the poster had a family member responsible for keeping the carpeting clean in a commercial environment.

...another Folex user here... It saved my granddaughter's life - she used a sharpie perminent marker on my week old carpet - the Folex removed it all! She was going to be toast if I hadn't been able to remove it... I used it to remove blood on a white silk purse even. The Bellagio in Vegas uses it in its carpet cleaners too.

Hi, Here are some good tips to keep the carpet clean. Firstly find out the type it is consisted of,whether of wool, plant fibers, silk or synthetics. I'd try Capture powder. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. Allergy companies also carry it, because it doesn't risk creating mildew in the carpet backing. I've used it on carpet and it did a decent job. A gallon bucket of it cost me somewhere in the $30-$40 range at Lowe's. They didn't carry the spray which you are supposed to mist the carpet with. I'm going to research whether that is really necessary. Anyway, it's a very gentle method, fast, and less labor-intensive.

vampiressrn, It is not hard to use. There are so many attachments too, which I believe are designed for spot cleaning. The container that holds the water is interesting, it's not too big or heavy. The container has a bladder that you fill with hot water, and as the water is pulled back out (which it does a great job doing) it goes into the area that is outside of the bladder. The only negative I read about this machine related to the tank not being big enough. It is so easy to fill and empty it doesn't bother me at all. The cleaner is in a separate tank and it just gets mixed in as you need it, and in the quantity that is required for the level of cleaning you choose--from rinse only up to heavily soiled. As others have mentioned, a professional detailing. You might want to check with some of the smaller car lots in your area to see who they use. A full detailing includes the exterior and interior, so just the interior should be cheaper. If you want to do it yourself, ones of those "Little Green Clean Machines" works well but expect to invest several hours. If you don't have one, you can use a shop vac that can suck water. Buy some carpet cleaning solution (both general cleaning and spot cleaning), apply it with a squirt bottle, scrub it in, and suck it back up. Use the same solution/method on the upholstery. Carpeted floor liners can just be pulled out, cleaned, hosed off, and hung to dry. It's less of a problem this time of the year but make sure the carpet is fully dry before you close up the windows. In winter, I've seen car interiors get some really funky smells because the carpet wasn't fully dry.

Oh you guys are the best...seriously...that is exactly what it was Folex..."K" don't know where I got the K. Now is it readily available at Home Depot or other big stores?

Folex is great. Mix in some Odoban (from Home Depot). We get Folex at Lowes. That's the combination we use in our steam cleaner for our carpeting.

Odoban...will get that as well. Is it 1 part Folex to 6 water for the steam cleaner?

You can easily make a home-made spot cleaner. Mix equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide, plus a squirt of Dawn detergent. Be careful, make it in a big container because it foams up. Dip your scrub brush in the foam, and use a little liquid. Works great on any mess a pet can make.

I went to my Lowes and they didn't have it, very disappointed. So I traveled down the road to Home Depot and voila...they had two bottles left and I bought both. I was very happy to see it..I can tell you that. The carpet is only two years old and is off white...so even though it looks great I can't wait to see how it comes out with the Folex.
