Creative solution to tying up earbud-type cords?

I keep all my cords in a pouch, but within that, they're all jumbled. Have you come up with a solution, something that doesn't make them bulkier? For instance, I just saw some plastic gizmos at the Container Store but they were not small, and I don't want the winders to take up more space than the cords really need.

I use velcro strips to wrap up my kitchen appliance cords, but those are really too much for the slim USB cables (for iPod, camera, portable hard-drive) that I plug into my laptop.

Clara - Looks like you are certainly pumping out the lumens, and plants look happy. Two questions to ponder though: at $45 a pop, these 85W CFLs + fixture are well-beyond chump change, at least for me. At some point, it must make sense to switch over to a HID lighting system. A ceiling mounted 1000W HPS, for example, would probably irradiate a good portion of your grow space, and they can't be more than a couple of hundred bucks. Second, the size of those 85W CFLs in the HD brooder lamp seems to ensure a lot of wasted lumens, and they stick out so far, a strip of Al-foil won't do much. As someone previously said, those gigantic CFLs seem much better suited to horizontal mounting in a "wing" or "half-tube" style fixture. I think the same poster described making a simple one with a double-ended screw-in socket, 8' heating duct cut in two lengthwise, and a couple of sheet metal screws. That said, the brooder lamps _are_ very flexible in their placement. Personally, I don't exceed a 55W bulb (linked below) in this fixture because, as you pointed out, I don't like my retinas fried just walking around the room. Nice thing about this particular 55W is the squat design that just about fits inside the 10.5" hemisphere. And not too shabby at 3600 lumens and $16. Here is a link that might be useful: fat 55W CFL

This one is from my own sweet mom, who is mother to 9 of us. To save on bathroom storage space ~ which, let me tell you, was at a premium with 9 kids! ~ she gave us each a simple, inexpensive, plastic tool-type caddy to keep our own personal bathroom necessities (toothbrush, comb, brush, etc. ) in. They were stored on a shelf in our bedroom closets, to be carried in and then back again, as we needed them. This helped a lot to keep our bathrooms uncluttered and organized. Mom also bought one of this type of plastic baskets for each kid to catch of our dirty laundry. She wrote our names on each of them. The plastic made it easy to keep clean and the holes kept our dirty clothes somewhat aerated . . . which really helped with our brothers' stinky things (LOL). Not sure what the link is above. I think the business owners were trying to do a little biz 101 here, BUT, I have two of their Liquidseat products in my pool backyard. My wife and I are in our late 20s and we've got a 4 bed house in Austin, TX. The backyard pool is basically a little lap pool only about 5 feet at its deepest. Naturally, we still like to have folks over for drinks, listen to music, and what have you. I LOVE the liquidseat pool seats. No issues with cleaning them, easy to put in, get out. I'm usually posted up on one of them on the weekeneds haha! I definitely recommend looking into getting one of these bad boys if you're looking to do a pool bar on a budget. Would he understand how to use a sash lock? I wonder if you could put it on in a way for it to be decorative (I have an attic hatch/space in one of my child's bedrooms (an under-eave attic space, so the door is floor level. I installed 2 sash locks on the "door" and trim and it looks finished and keeps her out. We used to have just a little flip lock thing with a zip tie...so this is a huge improvement). An earbud case. My son was looking for one when he got handed one at a career fair. Perfect! They stay unkinked, in his pocket and with all the pieces still attached. There are all kinds. See the link for pictures. When you see the style you want, just click on the page associated with it. I see one at the top that says "leather" which would be akin to the rubber band idea. I do like it. Simple enough.

I know this one! We use the empty Breathsaver Mint containers. The containers look like this. (The label is easy to remover.)

Staples has some shorter Velcro strips that I have used. Also check places like Menards or Lowes as they have assortments in different lengths.

I have a few different types, the wind up ones, the zig zag wrap one, I also use small jewelry pouches with the draw string closure. There's a lot of tutorials on how to make one out of an old credit card, they work well.
Google earbud holder diy. Altoid tins work well especially the mini tins.
I think the macaroon ones at container store are really neat and they suction right onto your phone.

Hubs and I each have a set of Shure earphones which came with their own carrying case.

Our iPods came with the Apple earbuds, and for those we use the Pocquettes Earbud Holder from Levenger:

Toilet paper tube'd be too big?

Cut it down one side, wrap two or three cords around it, lengthwise? Cut slots in the end, one to hold the cord at the bud and another at the plug end?
