I bought mine in October and so far love it. There is a starter kit for around $85 CAD. In October they had it on sale for $50. It contains a basic round lamp, a 300 ml neutral scent and 250 ml Ocean Breeze. My favorite scent is Sweet Pear. I mix them half and half with the neutal, so it's not too strong.

They way to use them is to light the wick thingy. It'll flare up to a large flame. In a few minutes, when it becomes a small flame, blow it out and put the diffuser on it. You only have to leave it on for about 15-20 minutes, then put the take the diffuser off and put the cap on.

The air in your house will smell lovely and clean. With the sweet pear it smells like you're making applesauce.

Gosh, you learn something new every day. I have never heard of it before, a bit expensive, but interesting.

I have a Lampe Berger, & I own two imitation's. They work equally well as far as I can tell. However, quality of the fake ones is inferior...not necessarily by look but by feel.

Kirkland's carries an off brand, as would some fragrance stores.

Another recommendation is to check e-Bay. The prices may be lower after the holidays, though, as supply and demand is probably higher now than in January.

I own a Courtney's Candle brand fragrance lampe.. it is nice and heavy and cost me about $40. I really like mine and they do take out odors and scent the whole house.

I always burn my lampe completely out of oil each time I burn it. When I refill, I cap it for 20 minutes to let the wick get full of oil before lighting (unlike luckygardner). IF it goes out for whatever reason it must be recapped for 20 minutes before relighting or you will burn up your wicks.

I buy the La-Tee-Da oil and mix it about 50/50 with the 91% (NEVER 80%) rubbing alcohol to save on costs. I find the La-Tee-Da oil is almost too fragrant.. so adding the alcohol makes it not as strong. I've tried making my own oils with essential oils, but didn't have much luck. They don't smell as nice and they tend to clog up my wick.

Be careful with these lampes too. I have heard one story of a woman being badly burned when she spilled the oil on herself and it ignited. So even though there is no flame, it is still flammable oil.

I would like to find a soft fruity scent. The la tee da oil I have is way too strong even diluted. My nose goes on overload. Is there an oil to take odors out of a room?

I have two lampes and light them at least once a week to freshen the air. They are especially helpful with 8 cats in the house ;)

Both of mine are clear glass (easier to see when the oil is low) and I bought them on Ebay.

The brand oils like Lampe Berger & Scentier are very heavy and they last a long time. The knock offs like the one I use (link below) are lighter in fragrance and cheaper but they burn much faster.

One thing to add - there is definitely an underlying note of the alchol that is evaporating while it cleans the air. Be warned that these oils don't smell exactly like candles, but they are wonderfully pleasant.

My favorite scents are Amber and Grapefruit from Berger, Blueberry from Scentier and Rasberry Cream and any of her Christmas fragrances from Makes-Scents.

As for the scents, I find most of them very strong, which is why I mix them half and half with the neutral scent. And if you have allergies to perfumes, just use the neutral and it will clean your air and not smell.

From what I understand, these lampes will even remove mold spores from the air. The lady I bought mine from has done a lot of studying and the company wants to hire her as an expert.

I love mine so much that I bought a starter kit for my DD. I hope she likes it as much as I do.

I have a Lampe Berger and a Greenleaf lamp. Hobby Lobby and Ben Franklin stores(some of them) have a different brand of lamp and oil. I sometimes buy the oils there because it is cheaper and you get different fragrances. I buy a Greenleaf oil also. It's nice to come home to a clean smelling house instead of cooking food, doxie odors or household cleaners.

I do have a question for you ladies, the container where the oil is sitting in, does it get very warm? mine would be sitting on granite, I was just wondering if a person had a different counter top, would you have to put it on something else.

No the bottle doesn't get hot. The only part to get hot is the burner and possibly the cap over that. It's fairly safe once the flame has been blown out.

No, the bottle doesn't get hot. It's just a container for the liquid.

The oil travels up the wick and saturates the stone (which is why you need to let it sit for about 20 minutes). The stone turns dark when it is saturated and then you light the stone, let it burn for a couple of minutes then blow out the flame.

The hot stone then causes the oil to evaporate. You need to put the protective cover over the stone because it gets red hot. Then you just let the lampe sit and release the fragrance & alcohol as the stone keeps evaporating the liquid as it wicks up.

Okay, I understand letting it soak up the wick for 20 minutes the first time you use it. How about the 2nd time? Is it already soaked up the wick, so you just re-light the wick for a couple minutes, and blow it out again?

You just need to cap it to put it out.. and yes, then you can just re-light when you are ready (as long as it's been at least 20 minutes). I always let mine burn completely out of oil though, I found that leaving oil in it kind of gums up the wick and you will have to replace them more often.

This post is timely! I just bought one of the La-Dee-Da lamps (Starter Kit)at a yard sale this past Sat.! It'd NEVER been used and I got it for $6! It came with 2 small bottles of fragrance. I went to Kirkland's Monday night and bought a couple of bottles (hey..they were on Sale!).

Anyone know if it's possible to make your own scent to use. The ingred. are Alcohol, Water and Fragrance. Seems if you knew the correct ratio of each, you could make it. (Working in a Candle Shop..I have access to lots of scents/oils!)

We got one as a Christmas gift from DH's sister a few years ago and we love it. I just bought the lavender oil on ebay...can't wait to get it. I am looking at them too for gifts for my kids this year.
