We are on the road

We left home this morning and are now in Van Horn, Texas. Was a long 428 miles and we lost 2 hours. Will be in Fredericksburg tomorrow late afternoon.

This trip we will be traveling all around Texas. I am meeting nanatricia on Tuesday and then we head to the Houston area where I will be visiting with Marilync. Going to see Gabbygirl too and then on the 13th will be going to the get together that Ravencajun organized.

From there we will be going to Waco where we will have dinner with Jaybird who used to post here. She doesn't have a computer at home and where she works won't let her on the KT anymore. She sure does miss everyone.

Also going to Tyler where Vannie is going to have a get together with several of the gals in her area.

On the way home we are going to visit Zipper TX, Tigerlily and Daisy7.

It sure is going to be a wonderful time meeting new friends and revisiting old friends. We sure have a great bunch of gals on the forums.

Check with your local fire department. Fire roads are required in many rural areas, and they MUST remain maintained as a road and able to be accessed by the fire department. That should be recorded on your deed as an easement, and you need to know 100% if that got missed on the survey or not. Otherwise, you could be on the hook for a lawsuit if they can't access someone's forest or home that burns down. And yes, you may not fit into the neighborhood if you come in and immediatly start with the "mine, mine, mine". Rural neighbors are more about a shared community and shared assets and helping their neighbor. If John has a tractor, and Bill's tractor is in the shop, John will often bushhog Bill's property for him until he gets the tractor working again. The whole neighborhood shows up to help when you have a large project like building a shed. Many have had community wells or sewage treatements in the past that require the cooperation of all involved to maintain them even if they are now on city water and sewer. It's a lot different mentality.

Sorry I've been out of touch lately. Bob was moved from Patricia Neal to another rehab facility on Monday. He's doing really well. They're working on his walking, with help of course, and he's making progress on that. No use in his arm yet but he can lift it somewhat. He is working unbelievebly hard, very determined! I try to sit in on his therapy sessions as much as I can so I can see how he's doing. No word yet on how long he'll be there. Selfishly I hope for at least another 10 days at least. We're doing major renovation on the downstairs bathroom, taking out a jacuzzi and making a 4x7 walk-in, all tile,shower, changing the sink to a wall mount and all that stuff. They started the demolition yesterday and basically gutted the entire room, including the floor. I don't enjoy making decisions about things that can't be changed, like tile, for instance and location of sink etc. when they offer me choices. How sad is that! I'll be going to the rehab before they start the jackhammer, digging up concrete.:-) Again, as always, thanks for your concern. jude

and it was extremely hot outside I've been to White Sands. It is an unusual and beautiful place in its unique way. Neat photo of it. But, I'm like you, if you have been there, the memory usually includes "hot" along with anything else. hehe.

Flooring for road noise - Carpet or LVT

Hi Everyone, We are looking into replacing our entire house of flooring. As much as we like the wood look tile, neither of us loves the idea of walking around on tile a lot, especially in the middle of winter. We live close to a freeway and noise is not really a problem, but we currently have a lot of carpet in the house (old vinyl in wet areas, carpet everywhere else). We are beginning to believe that the carpet is part of why we have such little road noise and we are scared of losing it and suddenly having a road noise problem. However, every time one of our three cats pukes on the carpet, I really want to get rid of it and replace it with a flooring I can actually "get clean" if you know what I mean. Will we regret swapping out the carpet for LVT due to road noise?

I don't know where you are going in Tyler but I love this tea party restaurant there, they have the cutest store in there. I am trying to remember the name but I am sure anyone in Tyler can tell you. I actually went there to meet up with friends from another forum I was on. The food was great too.

Hi all!!! We are in Fredericksburg where it is Octoberfest this weekend. Going to be here until Wednesday morning. Hopefully the weather will get better. It was cold and very cloudy with some rain on our drive here today.

Terilyn, are you feeling better?? Looking forward to seeing you too.

Becca, I am expecting a great big hug.

Kat, I am hoping to see Jen on the 18th. That is the only day she will be in town while I am there.

It is Willie Nelson who sang "On the Road Again". I love that song.

The rest of you are making me blush. I am just me, nothing special. I am who I am.

Cynic, I am hoping to be in MN in late June or early July. Hopefully it won't be too hot there.

All, when I was riding my bicycle across the USA, she read between the journal entries... and realized, I needed someone to talk to.

She emailed me her number, and we conversed just about daily the rest of the trip.

Nita, I just hung the picture you had made on the mirror for me. One of the few things I have with my "old name" on it, and I am keeping it. :)

Funny thing Moni, I was thinking today about when I gave you that placque and I was crying. Those wer special times. I always enjoyed our phone chats. I remember you called me when you reached the Atlantic Ocean and dipped your tire in. Lots of fun times and memories my friend.

LOL Cynic, I knew what you meant. Looking forward to seeing you this coming Summer. Going to keep Mike out on the road for 4 months starting mid March. Hopefully I will get to meet a lot more folks from the KT on our travels.

Sounds like you'll have lots of fun Nita.Always nice to meet the people you talk to from the different boards.

There was a lady on the quilting forum from England that has a DD that lives in the next town over from me.When she came to the states,we got together,hit the quilt shops and had lunch and a fun day.

Have also met several stitchers from the cross stitch board i frequent.

Have loads of fun Nita,take lots of pictures.
