Halloween Costume Ideas

DH and I usually dress up for Halloween. We don't do anything that would get us a prize, usually just something simple. This year I'm at a complete loss for any ideas. Thought I'd come here and see what you all have done or to see if you just have any easy and neat ideas.

In the past we went as Waldo and Wenda (that was fun). Football refs, ugly old man and ugly old lady (that was fun but now I'm looking like that ugly old lady). I had friends that went as "deer in the headlights". The husband was the deer and the wife was the road (long black dress with duck tape down the skirt for the lines on the road) with headlights on her chest. It was very cute.

You mentioned football refs. Some years back a couple I know had a cute costume, he was a football ref in the black and white with a whistle and she was dressed in a big yellow tablecloth from head to toe. He would whistle and she would throw herself on the ground! Lol. She was the yellow flag. It was hilarious.

ravencajun, the ref & flag is a cute idea!

I wish I had a halloween party to go to -- I love creating halloween costumes! :) I've never done costumes as a couple but happened to see the old Batman show on TV recently and thought it would be fun to go as Batman and Robin. lol!

what about those plastic barrels that those big hard pretzels come in?? don't know if they would be big enough or not. Maybe just "wear" the barrel and not cut arms through it. Make suspenders that go over your shoulders to 'hang' the barrel from? Just a few thoughts. Good luck!!

I didn't end up going to the Halloween party (didn't know the hosts well, and likely wouldn't know most of the guests, but I had my husband convinced to go until our friends backed out), but I am wearing a variation of the 50 shades costume today at work. Gray sweather, black pants, gray boots and a necklace made of 50 shades of gray paint chips!

I am dressing my DS)9) as a UPS man this year. I bought brown cargo shorts and a brown button down shirt at Childrens Place. Got a brown UPS cap on clearance at K Mart months ago for $1.20 (thats what inspired me). I already have the perfect size Amazon box for him to flip open for candy as he says "trick or treat". His eyeglasses turn dark in the light so they will look like sunglasses I think. All I need is to get short brown socks and to figure out an easy way to make a UPS logo for the shirt. hmmm....as for Grant, it reminds me of when my daughter was 2. She cried and carried on not wanting to wear the hat to her lion costume. In our pictures inside, she is not wearing the hat, but once she got outside in the stroller to trick or treat I was able to put the hat on while she stared at costumed kids. She didn't even seem to care anymore. The following year she was a clown and I painted her blond hair with pink hair mascara. It came out nice-no hat needed. You could probably get Grant some caped kid pjs at Target. They used to carry Superman and Batman, I think they still do. I had to buy them in 2 sizes because my son and daughter both liked to wear them. Does Grant like any particular characters?? He'd be a cute Bob The Builder! Someone mentioned a mailman-when my other daughter was in 1st grade they had Career Day. She dressed as a 'mailgirl' and delivered her homework in a priority mail envelope LOL!! I like the scarecrow idea! Thats not something you normally see.

Lydia ought to have some good ideas, she and her DH usually go to a Halloween party and win for best costumes. :)

I always wanted to make myself a big wedge of swiss cheese and write smart stuff all over it, like e=mc squared (can't do that right on the computer, ha) and other smarty pants things. I would be "Cheese Whiz". LOL

That football ref and yellow flag is a HOOT!

We won when we (now ex) were Shrek and Fiona. But it helps that we started out already looking like them. Making the ears was fun! What's really cool? When they made Shrek 2 and he became handsome, that's how husband looks in real life. Identical. Funny!

A couple of years ago I picked up an idea on another forum that I'm going to use this year: Grey pants and a grey hoodie, with fiberfill (pillow stuffing) "clouds" pinned to the hoodie. When asked what you are, you say, "Partly cloudy, with a chance of showers." On the word showers you pull a small spray bottle out of the hoodie pocket and give it a squirt.

I was going to do this two years ago, but instead pinned 4 or 5 numbers to my grey garments for "50 shades . . . " :-)

The great thing about these costumes is they're comfortable!

I made my grandson cloudy with a chance of meatballs last year - actually is was CACOM2 - he loved it as that was his favorite book - this year, he is going as an army man - I told him he would be my hero... lol

I have heard of little boys being dressed in a dress white shirt, sunglasses, socks and white underpants with a portable mic if you have one. They go as Tom Cruise in Risky Business. You have to live in a warm climate for that.

Years ago at one of my favorite clubs the winner had a really smart cute costume. I don't know exactly how it was made. She was dressed like a restaurant server, but built around her was a table so she was from the waist up coming out of the center of the table, which had a tablecloth over it. And a full place setting was on each side of the table, glued in place. She was holding a wine bottle. She was dinner for two. It was designed very well. From a distance you couldn't tell she was in the table it looked just like she was standing at the table with a bottle of wine ready to pour.
