Dang...I wish I would not have read this.

I'd like to see the movie. I try not to read actual "reviews" that give away the plot, twists,, ending, etc. I noticed my local newspapers gave the movie 3 stars in one review and 5 in another. I did not read the reviews, just the titles and number of stars.

Hellion, why? No spoilers were given. If you truly want to be in the dark about something, why would you even open a post about it, and then read all of it? Not that you learned anything from this one except that it was a long, well-acted, fast-paced movie that pretty much follows the book....

My husband and I saw this movie in a NYT Sneak Preview event the other night with a live (simulcast) QA with the author afterward. We both enjoyed the movie. I had tried to read the book twice but didn't like it.

They filmed quite a bit of this movie not far from where I live in Cape Girardeau, MO. It was a big deal. Still is. They had multiple showings and had a "red carpet" at one of the movie theatres.

I haven't read the book. Can't comment about it.

Thanks, Georgiesmom -- I think I'll put the movie on my list (vs reading the book first). I read a review (one with no spoilers) in yet another magazine (New York magazine), and it said Ben Affleck was probably at his best in this one.

"Gandhi" was slightly longer than that, but I do recall there was an intermission.

The 2 1/2 hours goes very fast. Even though the movie follows the book, I liked the movie better. It helped me to understand the characters more. I have a friend that read the book twice and liked it better the second time. It would make a great book club discussion book.

I don't get the comment by Hellion. Nothing at all was given that was a spoiler. The author worked closely with the movie people and wanted it to be close to the book that was well known and assumed.
I loved the book as did husband and I really would love to see it but he doesn't like going out to movies and one that long would be pushing it. But I am hopeful! Glad you got to go and enjoyed it.

I did not want to know about the ending, but I didn't mean to sound rude. When I said I wish I had not read this post did that not mean (as I intended) that I should not have opened it and read it, not that Georgysmom should not have written it. I feel a little attacked here......geez.

Helion, I don't think anyone was attacking you, they just didn't understand your comment. Seems to me if you read the book, when a movie is made of that book, you would want the movie to be true to the book. It was. If you were looking for a different ending, then the movie is not being true to the book. If you read the book and liked it, you will love the movie. Casting is great, acting is great. If you read the book and didn't like it, I think you still will like the movie. For me it helped clarify the characters.

I loved the book. Just wanted to see for myself if the movie was true to the book. You did nothing wrong....I should not have read the post. End of story. :)

I just got back from watching the movie. It was pretty good.

I saw the movie today too. I didn't read the book, but all the buzz about the movie got me to go see it.

All I can say is that it was plenty interesting enough to make the time fly by! It was very well done. Good cast.

I just got back from seeing the movie in a rather crowded theater. It is showing on 2 screens. I loved the movie. Might not have gone, except my cousin called this morning and said it was a "must see".

Oh, lordy! Is this another sick story set in The South? I could barely get through "True Detectives".

It's a Twisted movie but very good.

I hated the book and really have no desire to see the movie.

I have not read the book, but enjoyed the movie. Great actors, and no computer generated special effects!The ending was kind of odd....but then not sure of another way for it to end..

Saw it, loved it, in a packed theater at 1 pm yesterday. Will wait for the sequel novel I anticipate coming out.

Not sure what you mean by that comment chisue. It takes place in Missouri and is quite unique in the story line, which is about a couple.

Gone Girl: A Novel

Read the book last year and saw the movie today. It was very well done - the casting director deserves an Oscar. I wish they had spent a little more time on Amy's childhood since that was integral to her character as an adult.

I found both the film and book quite unsettling - it's difficult to feel any sympathy for Nick or Amy. I guess they deserve each other.

Read the book and saw the movie. I remember being very annoyed at the book's ending, so I was prepared for the movie. I wonder if there is something wrong with me because I liked Nick. She was BAD.

Nick came out a lot softer in the movie, I thought. Really didn't like the book, but must admit, I couldn't put it down.

I had NO IDEA what I was in for and didn't even realize it was an RRRR movie until I was already in the show. My DD took me and I just paid the bill.
It's one of those movies that is captivating and yet, at times totally weird. Well someone was! I kinda felt sorry for Nick although he was far from innocent. I have to admit the ending had me confused. Why didn't they ask her why she stayed at the the lake house. yea, I know she "was tied" but she had a box knife for a weapon. That part confused me. And I never thought I would see that much of Neal Patrick Harris!
He must be one good actor because he doesn't 'look' like that role, imo. At one point I thought he was going to do something awful to Amy, boy was I surprised!

No question it is weird, sic and totally captivating. Didn't like the book, but couldn't put it down. We were discussing it at bridge today and all agreed that Nick came out softer in the movie. I understood the ending a little bit better in the movie than in the book.

I agree with GeorgysMom that it is weird, sick and totally captivating. But I was waiting for a twist somewhere (more than the twisted personalities and the result of their last TV interview), and for me there was not one, especially after her long monologue that really spelled things out far too early in the movie. In my mind, I'm thinking, "He looks suspect," and "Hmm, maybe that other person is hiding something," but then, "Poof -- everything is explained."
So for me, it wove a very interesting story, but at the end, I was thinking, "Is that all there is?"

The Nancy Grace-type was very good.
(And 2.5 hours felt like a lot shorter, I agree!)
