Where would you live in Florida if you could live anywhere?
Comments (55)Musicman: wow...Pacific Northwest, huh? Somewhere up by Rainer? I was living in Seattle before I moved back here. I had to live there for work as I am in the technology field. I was there for about 2 years. I have to say, when it is sunny, it is a visually stunning area. However, those days are few and far between. I thought I was going to have to build an ark. It rained for 95 days straight the first year I was there, then stopped for one entire day before it rained some more. The second year was more of the same. Rain, more rain and then some more rain. Oh, and some snow too. When I had a chance for a job transfer back to Florida, I jumped on it. Puget Sound was not my 'cup o'coffee' (a little Starbucks pun...). But, I do know loads of people who love it there. I assume they hate sunshine and love paying $6 for a half a gallon of milk. From a gardening perspective, I was frustrated there as well. It seemed the only things that did well were azealas, ivy, spruce trees and that ugly colored 'cabbage' plant. The faux cabbage plant was everywhere. But, the azealas were huge and major show stoppers. Nothing like we have here in FLA. As for me, I don't think I'll ever leave Florida again now that I am back. I'm still not tired of one sunny day after another....See MoreGo w/your gut feeling--no more ebay hosta w/cut leaves for me!
Comments (44)No matter what, Tanya, in the hosta market, today--it's a risk when you buy one. Don't worry about it--if it's HVX you will know in a few years, for pretty sure. Just make sure not to cut scapes with the same knife or scissors you just cut another with. And, if you dig and divide, make sure you also clean the shovel and or knife (after and between digs) with a fury, with Dawn dish detergent and a bleach solution. With the nematodes--in my opinion, it's a worse problem. But--what are we going to do--give up our passion? Nope, we'll just have to 'deal with it'!!! Enjoy what you've done!!! I've gone through the hysteria of nematodes and the frustration of HVX--and I think I'm beginning to mellow. The nematodes I found the other day--didn't get 'nuked' this time, like the leaf I showed above (my first discovery on a newly purchased 'Sugar and Cream'). In fact, I'm so cool about it--it's still in that card-board box up on the deck! I feel sorry for it!! But--not for the 'nems'!!! I hate that they are such a problem--and my graphic is from the previous experiences, but I just posted it for fun this time!! I'm not nearly as 'freaked' as before--but still miffed at the seller for selling it--because it was a problem she saw--and felt she had to conceal, whether she understood what it was or not! That, to me, shows a lack of integrity--which I value very much in anyone, whether they are selling me something or just being a friend--be honest, sincere, kindly forthright and patient with me--cause we all are 'a work in progress' on some level! :o/ Did I mention I just can't abide someone who 'flatters' which translates to be someone being very ingenuous--hoping to impress me and with an ulterior motive--that I always wonder about!!! And, I just don't understand the desire to hurt another person, to put them down or make them feel idiotic--what is with that in a person to feed off that kind of hurtful mindset?? Oh well--now you know more about me than you ever wanted to know--right? LOL...See MoreHow long could you go?
Comments (22)My frequency in shopping has declined over the past several years for a few reasons. And it's not because I no longer like to shop. I've always been a thrift shop and flea market junkie. I am a collector of art pottery and every so often I get the "bug" and have to go see if something's to be found. I don't buy the high end stuff -- I'm cheap and only spend a few dollars on each item. Part of the thrill is to limit the amount you are willing to spend -- sometimes I go home empty handed, but I never blow my budget. I used to make a day of it, go to several places, sometimes with a friend. When I started out in my late teens, I collected smaller things because I lived at home. As a young adult, it became a way to help me furnish my home with things I love very cheaply. I moved around a bit and it was easy to part with $5 chairs and tables if they didn't work in a new apartment. When my parents moved away, they gave me some pieces of family furniture and I parted with some flea market items. Once I purchased my house (I was 39), I was finally able to purchase furniture and artwork that I could keep for a long time. And so, I have continued to work on renovating my home and decorating it with my "finds". After 11 years, I'm just about "done" except for a few small things. And I've maxed out my pottery collection -- if I buy something new, something has to leave. There's just no more room, and there's no storage space to have the option of rotating pottery or artwork. The lack of storage, and my unwillingness to have closets and cabinets crammed with stuff has changed my attitude toward shopping over time. I have recently purged a lot of older and family things that no longer hold meaning or have lost their usefulness. I am enjoying the clearer spaces and don't have the desire to run out and find more things to fill them. I am trying to focus on new ways to express my creativity and enjoy myself with friends and family. As far as the mall goes, I get really overstimulated from all the lights and displays. There's just so much stuff I find it hard to focus -- can't see the trees for the forest. Too many choices and it's all spread out. Large department stores overwhelm me, too. This is a natural deterrent of shopping. I only go a couple of times a year to specific shops when I need certain articles of clothing that fit well and I'm not having any luck in thrift shops. So, how long could I go? I don't know the answer to that. Probably a couple of weeks. Yesterday I bought a few journal books that my husband and I use for keeping lists and a birthday present for a friend. A few days before, I purchased a new bathing suit for our annual trip to the beach. Tina...See MoreCould you go purseless?
Comments (94)I don't like purses that interfere with my outfit so anything around my neck I would not like. My two friends I was with brought very small purses but still did not want to wear them and especially not dance with them so they ended up just on the table. I do feel I can now move to a much smaller purse. I liked being purseless except for having to keep watching my phone when dancing. My daughter has a phone case that you can put in your id, a cc or two and some cash. That would be convenient but still the size of the phone just doesn't fit in pockets well. At least not in jeans and its too warm now for jackets. Vests are interesting. I don't remember if I have ever owned one. I didn't actually need my ID, unfortunately I wasn't proofed....See MoreUser
