Don't you just love it with your GK's call to just talk!

My one and only, PJR, age 16, called, while ago, and we chatted for almost 30 minutes.

THEN he asked if I would take him to purchase his hunting boots at Bass Pro..... knew something was up :o)........

Said he'd reimburse me! Yep, he knows his grandmother!

Sigh, gotta love 'em!

YES, I love it when they call. My 19-year-old grandson calls occasionally, but my 23-year-old grandson calls frequently. They are great kids, and I love them dearly. Sadly, their dad (my son) passed away, and I'm their only living grandparent. But at least they know that they are the center of their mother's universe...and mine.

Wanda, I'm sorry to hear about your son!

I'm the only grandparent that does anything with my grandson. We are close. Hope it lasts!

I tell people I'm leaving them feedback in the R&R when I email to tell them I got their seeds, hoping that'll inspire them... but I refuse to beg. ;-) I know what you mean. I write a positive review and then when I'm emailing them that I received my plants/seeds, I include a link to the thread/post I made...hint, hint. Yikes...I just checked and I have posted here 93 times, yet only have 20 reviews. A lot of my posts were conversations, or pointing members threads to the original review thread....or clarifying a correct spelling on a members name, or, or, or. They don't call me busy body Sue for nothing. bbs

My mother ruined me for pie. She was a pie maker whose crust was light, flakey and the best I have ever tasted. On cold, weekend mornings, it was common to wake up to as many as six pies. The smell of pies baking in the oven says home to me. We couldn't wait for them to cool so we could have pie for breakfast. She raised the fruit, berries, etc. and froze them in her freezer. She didn't use a recipe and never made less than six at a time so I didn't master her crust recipe. I have quit having pie since she died. I have just given up on it. Once, Derek asked Grandma for an apple pie. She asked, "Where am I going to find apples this time of year?" I responded, "The grocery store, Mom. You can buy apples year round now." How I miss my Mother's pies.

Joan,that's too funny!!! My best friend and i have told our families that which ever of us dies first,the other gets to be the first one to go in the sewing room and take for free what ever they want,machines included.I have only 1 dd and she doesn't even sew on buttons.My oldest son knows how to sew but no time and my other 2 boys have no interest what so ever. I've told my family that my quilt books are to go to the quilt guild or the library. I do need to check with the library though.What i have is so much newer and better than what they have.Their books are bordering on antique. I jokingly told dh that he could save money,by having them line my casket with my cottons.Of course he didn't think that was funny. Actually you all should all be proud of me,i've cut way back on my buying of fabric.The only thing i've got in the last year is fabric to make baby stuff for the new great gd,and i already sewed it all up and sent it to my gd. If i see something i like,i ask myself if i need it or want it.If it's want,then i pass.I also stay away from the stores.Self control is what i'm practicing these days. Kathi

"Just the other side of moo-ing!" Hounds x two, that's a good one. I like mine very, very rare. And it seems that every time I get a steak when I'm out, I try very hard to make them understand that I want it that way. I don't think they believe me and more often than not, I have to return the steak and let them try again. Even when the waitperson tells me that the next time I visit I should ask for it "(whatever that waitperson thinks I should say)", the next waitperson has a different way they think I should ask for it. I've used: blue extremely rare hot raw pass it over a candle And a dozen more I can't remember. Finally, I clipped a picture from a magazine of just what I want it to look like and took that with me last time. And guess what? It worked. I know it's silly to have to resort to that, but when I pay good money for a piece of meat (and I truly love rare beef), I want it to be exactly what I paid for, especially since we can't afford to eat out very often. At home, even DH doesn't seem to be able to grill one the way I want it. I'd just as soon cook it myself in a frying pan.

Our four year old granddaughter called the other night and she and Pappa played find the hidden toys for 45 minutes, he told her, "I can't see through the phone." She said, "Of course you can, just use your super powers!" It was hilarious to listen to.

Of course when the sons call, they will talk forever.. Then well, I need such and such. I always know something is coming. Bad news, wants, needs. So sad. That's why grands are the best! They just want you! Stuff too, but I am happy to give to them. They appreciate it.

I love it when Jake calls.......and even better, he learned how to Skype in Japan this summer so I get to see both kids faces. They are so entertaining.
Mio finally started talking to Grandma after the first time we Skyped. She will be four in several weeks and Jake is six.
So far they haven't asked for anything except to have a barbecue when they come to California.

My six year old grandson called today (he never calls), but I think my dil made him. He wanted me to take him to gamestop to buy a game for his xbox360 and he had to ask me if he wanted to go...lol I will take a call anyway I can..lol

My granddaughter and her boyfriend moved about an hour away early this summer.Yesterday the doorbell rang and there they were. Made my day,made my week actually! My husband and I went shopping this morning and came home to find my grandson cutting our lawn.So proud of himself because he had just passed his drivers test and drove over here himself. It was wonderful to see how proud he was, but now that is four out of seven grandchildren that I have to keep in my driving prayers.
