What's for Dinner ... Friday?

It is so gorgeous outside here in Ohio today. After so many days of dreary, it makes it even more precious to me.

When I made whole wheat noodles earlier in the week, I put aside some of them. Tonight I've taken homemade spaghetti sauce out of the freezer to have with them. I made a salad. Later I'll have a piece of Amish pumpkin pie I bought today. It's a mini sized one.

I've told you my dinner plans, now how about telling yours? Or what you had earlier for your main meal of the day.

We are going to have halibut, homemade tartar sauce, Texmati rice, lemon and dill peas (new recipe), and bakery bread.

We are having Crock Pot Stew with some bread. It is 82 and sunny here so not really stew weather, but oh well.

Hi Shirley, we are at a bar getting set up to play. Before we left I marinated a couple of chicken breast in olive oil lemon juice, dijon and garlic and herbs and put them on the little gril. We had quinoa salad and fresh rolls. We're in for hot humid temperatures this week end.

Its confusing because it goes against what has been the accepted common knowledge since perhaps the early 1800's. The farmers growing them and calling them yams, are wrong. The grocers selling them and calling them yams, are wrong. The companies canning them and labeling them as yams, are wrong. The people who first introduced them to the United States called them yams, perhaps to distinguish them from the different variety of sweet potatoes that were already on the market, they were wrong too. Even some sites on the web that try to explain the difference with helpful images like this one: http://www.frugallivingnw.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/yams-sweet-potatoes-is-there-a-difference-2.jpg are wrong. (hint they are all sweet potatoes, despite their labels) So it is not at all surprising that what I learned at a young age from my mother and grandmother, and which was continually re-enforced every Thanksgiving or every time I visited a grocery store, is wrong. I have never eaten a true yam in my life, and seeing some of the pictures of what a true yam look like, I probably never will. Does it harm me in any way if other people choose to call some varieties of sweet potatoes "yams", no. It merely bothers the pedantic part of me a little when someone asserts something to be a fact, when they are in fact wrong.

Just made some Caesar salad dressing and topped the salad with blackened salmon for DH. I was too tired to eat myself. Maybe in a little bit. Returned home from a golfing trip with the ladies….3 days of golf and late nights. Took one day off except for Mexican train last night and played golf today. Looking forward to a quiet weekend.

It's ridiculously hot here over 100. Hubby is going to throw a couple of nice bone in ribeyes on the grill, leave the heat outside. I will do some baby red potatoes in the microwave instead of the oven. Sliced tomatoes. I am not hungry at all, had a slice of pizza for late lunch. I had carotid artery scans done today and the vampires had to have some of my blood too. Whew too hot to be out doing anything! Another baby died in a car I saw on the news, at a Waffle house restaurant, I just don't get that one. A man came running out to the car when he saw the ambulance pull up. I guess he just needed some waffles. Crazy stuff.

The French dip sandwiches I didn't get to last night, because of a friends crisis, with some fresh vegetables and Knorr vegetable dip.

Beautiful day today! I treated myself (and hubby will reap the results) of a pastry mat. My pie crust always sticks to the counter when I roll it, so hopefully this will help. (I posted the pic on the picture thread)

A few months ago ThreeJ's posted her fried rice recipe and I made it tonite. It's delicious and in my keeper binder.

Stew at 82 will do. Stew at ninety nine is fine too.
Happy Hour selected something simple: kielbasa, sauerkraut, boiled tater, rye bread. One of the boxes of ice cream should provide a satisfactory ending. With chocolate of course. Whoops, got a banana and some chopped nuts too.

Still enjoying the beautiful weather here.
Tonight I made the shrimp chowder.
I was asked for the recipe so I posted it on the recipe share thread.
I added some mushrooms this time. I change it up depending on what I have available. Here's picture of it.

Felt like simple comfort food tonight so I'm simmering a batch of sloppy joes made from scratch....lean ground beef, tomato sauce, paste, onions, g. peppers, celery, splash of vinegar, brown sugar, dash of garlic....I think that's it! I made enough to put another supper's worth in the freezer.

We've been nibbling on sliced cukes, zucchini, and broccoli with some of my tzatziki dressing.

I add red pepper flakes or cayenne, and chili powder to mine Rhizo.
We had it last week, but you made me hungry for it again.

I was just thinking yesterday that it's been a long time since I've had sloppy joes or kielbasa. lol! Everything sounds good! I had spaghetti and a salad for dinner. I could eat again. :)

Walnutcreek: What a great and healthy meal you are having! Everything sounds so good.

Jewels: I eat soups, stews, chilis all year long. Enjoy your stew and bread, just keep a cloth handy to wipe off the sweat if necessary. lol

Angelaid: Is your friend okay? What was on your sandwiches? I only get that when I go to the deli for lunch.

Jasdip: I saw the mat. Had one similar for years. I'm loving we can share recipes, expanding our choices.

Old Fixer: Again you have whipped up a meal that would suit me to a T. Keep up the great cooking.

Raven: I only needed the potato soup. Got it today. Now I have everything to make the chowder so may do it this weekend. Since it's just me, should I cut recipe in half, or does the chowder keep well for several days in fridge? The picture makes me want to make it even more.

Sue: I'd add a glass of milk to the cheese and crackers ... have done that before.

Rhizo: Sloppy Joes are a very good comfort food. Your nibbles added the vegetables to make a meal.

Party: We must have compared notes, only mine was noodles and yours spaghetti. After reading all the posts, I'm often hungry all over again.

You can freeze it too. It will keep for a few days.
The mushrooms were a good addition this time but we both love mushrooms.
We both ate way too much lol... So good!
