can you help with ideas? please

I belong to a branch-off of Red Hatters. I've been given the job, to put on a "calendar party". It can be combined with month/birthdays, etc. I'm not quite sure what the heck I'm supposed to do with this.

Can anyone give some ideas? We will have approx 22 women. It will be at a local restaurant, in their isolated room. I would start by designating tables to certain months, then having the gals sit at their birthday-month table. Centerpieces would be related to the occasions in that month, etc.

They like some sort of entertainment/games, or something to do besides eat. I'm at a loss here.

It's not until March, but the "leader" of this group, wants things planned well in advance.

And what's wrong with just eating as a group activity? Conversations always develop when a group of women get vtogether. One of my favorite activities is "gossiping' about celebrities I've never met. Do you think Angelina has gone off the deep end? Is Cloris too old to be showing off her dance moves? Have fun planning your birthday celebrations.

With only 22 women and 12 months, I think you'd have a hard time trying to do each month.

What about morphing it into the four seasons instead? You could do four different centerpieces - Spring, Summer, Fall Winter. I think a painted tree branch for each season would be fun. For winter, paint it white with flocked snow and silver glitter with maybe a few red/purple birds hanging from the branches. In spring have a tree with light colored green or a pastel color leaves and lavendar/pink birds. For summer, have pink/lavendar leaves and colored birds. For autumn, use red/purple leaves and some scattered on the ground and have a few blackbirds.

I'd have sort of guessing game for the activity.

Thanks guys. The idea of one book will work well for us. Since we will probably be moving, we are trying to aquire less "stuff". It would be nice to do handwritten, but people are all over the country, and I think I'll get more responses through email. There may be duplicates, but I think that's okay. I can space them out once I see all the responses. I like the idea of using pictures. Since his father and grandfather are doctors, I bet there are lots of pictures of him younger at their offices. we also have pictures of our kids playing doctor. And I still have his acceptance letter and other important documents. Good stuff. Thanks everyone.

A coastal cottage look might contain interior 4 1/4" flat casing on the two sides, with a horned-sill and 5" apron and head casing. All joinery is butt-jointed. That's about as simple as it gets, while also creating a traditional appearance. Your local bookstore or library will have an endless supply of photos found in the traditional home section of the magazine rack. Good luck!

Yet another reason not to build homes with two story foyers & entryways. I agree less is more. I'd eliminate the blinds on the top window. How do you even manage the controls for opening or closing them & the hanging cords add to the busy look. I like the idea of a roman shade on both the door & window next to it. The thing about roman shades is that they look better when they are rolled up or partially up. Rolled completely down, they can often look like a sheet covering the window. Another issue, if this is your front entrance, you might want the shades always down for privacy or light control. I suggest either roman shades that have some texture so they don't look flat when down OR a honeycomb shade that allows for top down/bottom up. Get rid of all those small items on the fireplace mantle. You will need something much grander there than that small mirror. I suggest colorful art.

I like the seasons idea. It's a very clever way to overcome the scant numbers in some months. As a guessing game see which group can come up with song, book and movie titles that contain either the season (spring) or the names of the months involved (March, April, May) or the names of any of the women at the table (Ka-ka-ka-Katie!). By the end of dinner they should have a pretty big list! For extra fun, tell them they have to sing one of the songs on their list.

Great! Thank you for those ideas. I like all of it, and will mull it over. The "seasons", sounds like an easier way to do this thing.

This is a little off topic but since you are a Red Hat lady you might like to save this idea for anothe time. I got it at a yard sale it is just a simplewooden spoon I can't believe I posted this pic 4 years ago

Why not enlist women now who will pose for a chapter calendar?
Each member or a couple of them could each pick a month and dress for that month. Take lots of poses,pick the best ones and then have the pictures made into a calendar. Since you have around 22 ladies you could even do an eighteen month calendar.

Start collecting candy and trinkets now for the main holiday months. Halloween stuff is out now and you'll have Thanksgiving,Christmas,News Years,Mardi Gras,St. Patricks and even Easter things by March. May could be Cinco de Mayo,June is graduation month,July is the 4th, August is beach days and September is fall or back to school.

Make a sheet cake for dessert to resemble a calendar.

Don't forget to play Neil Sedaka's Calendar Girl at the party.

Wildchild, love those ideas! I will start collecting stuff now, as you suggested. Funny about the calendar. Our leader/queen, wanted us to do a real calendar like the movie some years back. The women posed nude with items strategically placed! We laughed at her, and none of us volunteered!! LOL... Wisely.
Thanks for the reminder of Neil Sedaka's song too. I wanted to download songs pertaining to each month, to make a CD, but I don't think that's legal.

We did the four seasons party at our church once. Each table got their own birthday cake to go with the season. Red velvet for winter, Angle food for Spring, not sure about Summer(probably something decorated red white and blue) and Spice cake for Autumn.
