Still shots from video ?

I have a video on CD of Preston doing the mutton busting last weekend. I want to get some still shots from it so I can print them out. I looked online and found instructions if you are viewing the video with Windows Media Player. The instructions were to go to tools/ options/ performance and turn down the slider to none,

pause the video where ya want and hit the print screen button on keyboard.

I can't find where to access tools to start with. I even upgraded to the newest player. Can someone tell me where to find tools??? Or a different way to get a still shot?

maryann, I found this on google. Hope it helps.

Right-click an open area of the Windows taskbar (such as below the system clock) , point to Toolbars, and then select Windows Media Player. ...

Thanks so much. I followed your instructions and then opened the player. It looked the same, but I right clicked on an empty area at the top and it brought up a menu with tools!
Now I'm going to try it out. Thanks again!

UFO!!!! I graduated HS the same year Jodi. While I loved Rock, I eventually turned into a real disco boy. Grew up where they filmed Saturday Night Fever, Danced at Studio 54 (did way more than dance, but the kids are reading this post...LOL)I was also one of those New Wave nuts for a while, you know, green / blue pony tail, ala Duran Duran hair...scary, but damn those were some great times in NYC. Larissa, that Basuto is beautiful even if you don't think you're getting the color correct. And Wedding Dance is gorgeous, have you tried a Ludwigs Dazzler yet? The little H. Larissa I have has not grown any leaves yet but the bulb seems to have grown quite a bit in size, can't wait for the sunroom to warm a bit more at night, that's when the growth will start. Lar, the Papillio babies are holding their own, and I think we may have talked about an aphroditie? they are recovering nicely from the bulbfly surgery and seem to be enlarging. I find the aphrodite to be evergreen, the forced dormancy last fall 07, was not appreciated by the bulbs. They are also repeat bloomers for me, 3-4 stalks a year. Spring and summer from surprisingly small bulbs for the amount of bloom. Now, you're starting to sound like Jodi with her soil, back away from the Basuto... Gotta get me a Basuto, Black Pearl, or even a Red Lion. Can't believe I have no solid red here! Zombie is showing signs of a stalk, Piccolo, and Jungle Bells (thanks for the JB Mariava)are as well. I've got a vittatum from Jane_artist that is also putting out roots and the bulb is enlarging but no leaf growth yet. Here is a link that might be useful: For Jodi

That was a cool old video Alisande. But the crisis could have been averted for baby had mommy provided the milk nature gave her. Felt kind of bad for the babe at the end who had simply had a bottle shoved at her. No cuddling. Sigh. Actually dairy farming has not changed all that much. My friend lived on one 40 plus years back. I recently visited a cheese factory which had a piece on how the milk got to the factory. Not much different from the video the old days of my friends farm. Just more product control and testing.

MaryAnn - if that doesn't work, I do video editing for a living. With a simple copy of the CD, I can extract still frames or pictures for you.

Let me know if you need assistance.

Thanks Barbara! I'm going to give it a try and will let you know. I've also got some videos of the boys bull riding and will try it on them first. I would love stills of them too.

MaryAnn - a screen cap will be pretty low resolution. OK if you are going to print really small - but even a 4x6 it will look pretty pixelated.

Try loading the video in Windows Movie Maker (you have it if you have XP or VISTA - it may be listed under Accesories)

Read the tutorial on the link below and it will show you a great way to capture a still from it.

Hopefully the video has a file type compatible with - it supports Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv - so I bet your CD or DVD will work, unless it is copyright protected.

So many people don't even know they have WMM - it is just a fantastic program. It is great if you ever use your digital camera for taking video. You can also use it to make great slide shows combining video and still images. I haven't found anything that works as well as WMM!

iowagirl, I have played around with WMM a little, but not enough to really know what I'm doing. I'll have to play around with it some more. I had heard that the resolution would be low doing the screenshot, but was hoping I could at least print out decent 4x6 prints.

A friend took the video and I'm not sure what file type it is, but if it's not compatable, is their someway to change the file type. Like you can change a jpg to a gif, etc?
