Try googling "felting by hand". My sister in law felts by hand in her kitchen sink with hot water. But, I have no idea if she scrubs the wool item between her hands, or how she does it. Are you putting a couple pairs of jeans or something in the washer with them to help with the agitation process? At least in the sink, doing it by hand, you can control the areas you want to felt more. I'm sorry I can't help you more. I'm confused--are you asking how to block the sweater? or what school it represents? You block it by (after washing, while it's wet) laying it out flat on a large towel. Carefully shape the sweater to the right shape, and let it dry flat. It should be fine that way. If you don't want to wash it first, just lay it out to shape on a towel, spray well with a spray bottle, and let it dry to shape it. As to what school the sweater might be from? There are probably 10's of thousands that use the colors green and gold--in the 50's high schools, colleges and universities all had sweaters in their colors, and there were only so many color combos they used. Do you have any idea what area the sweater came from? One school that used green and gold was Audubon High, New Jersey--incidentally, the high school of Joe Flacco--but I'm sure everyone here knows of at least a school or two from the time that used green and gold. I have washed cashmere blankets and throws in my Miele cycle (Do not use any other cycle, even “delicate” as it will over agitate the wool.) You have to be careful to use a detergent formulated for wool - I use Eucalan. Also, you have to be careful about reshaping it after washing. I tend to dry flat, or as flat as I can, over a drying rack or ironing board. Best to measure it before and after so you can gently stretch into position if necessary. If there is trim on the edging of the blanket, you need to make sure that it is washable too and dye stable. Any bulges or bumps during the drying process will remain after drying, so make sure it is smooth and flat. You may need to lightly iron. The short answer is, ”it depends“, both on the blanket and how patient and tolerant you are for what might be an exacting job. Some cashmere throws are super simple. A king sized blanket can be more time consuming.

I use the Miele woolcare all the time on my lambswool sweaters, wool pants (Brooks Brothers), wool socks, wool base layers, etc. I have been happy with it. I have not tried the others.
