I thought all about my good friends here, and decided that I like them all better as themselves, and if they made a movie about them based on my screenplay, I would insist they play their own part: "(Not Very) Desperate Kitchen Mavens" Jessy as the naughty but cute little neighbor; Cathy as the sexy Italian organized kitchen maven who has a tool for everything you could possibly need a tool for; Peppi as the hostess who serves (lots of)wine with all her fabulous home-cooked meals and the one who opens her home to all the wayward neighbors who decide to leave their spouses (even if only for a getaway weekend); Annie as the sensible, no-nonsense neighbor who keeps all the naughty little "chicks" in line; Karen as the sweetheart that everybody loves; David as everyone's best friend (and the guy who brings the booze); Ann T as the one who ousted Martha and took over as Queen of the Kitchen (and she is telecast in every country of the world. AND she takes all her own photos) Nancy as the premier dessert baker of the country; Lindac as the Scotch-swiggin' neighbor who everybody loves, who really is the expert on everything and who tells it like it is and keeps all the nonsense out of eveything (I love you Linda cause you ARE who you are) I think this would be a great TV series.

Springermom, I am stunned that your uncle was so mean. You might try writing a letter to this Uncle. Not to ever send and since he has passed perhaps simply put it aside for a little while to burn later. Writing down how he hurt you, may help you deal with this pain. Crying makes us vulnerable and you were in the most vulnerable spot imaginable. Your uncle was a weak and insecure man. His anger at your show of emotion was wrong. I was not there to say if he did this with malice. It may be that he was unable to deal with his own grief and attacking you was his way of coping. There are many ways he could have handled his own angst at this funeral. He could have walked away or remained silent. What he did by yelling at you was that he stole your ability to heal yourself, express yourself and let the pain out. Crying plays an essential role in our biology as well as our social and cultural experiences. We can't always stop the tears from flowing, but crying gives our bodies and those around us a moment to pause. It is a time to either be alone, be hugged or let those emotions out. A famous British psychiatrist Henry Maudsley said "The sorrow which has no vent in tears may make other organs weep." For those of us who have trouble letting the tears out we must remind ourselves that it is okay to be vulnerable and allow ourselves to have moments of emotional expression. Thinking of you and wishing that if the tears decide to flow you will know that you are allowed to cry. ~boxerpups

Oh suzie2003's post reminds me! One June, years ago, we had our wood floors refinished. Because of the humidity, it was too tacky for the guy to finish them for days. It didn't bother me but it drove my DH crazy. Every day the flooring guy would show up, crawl across the floor on his hands and knees and then say, no, it's still too tacky for the next coat. The guy even came to the house on a Sunday morning, clearly looking like he rolled out of bed, his hair all sticking up, slapped a tool belt over his cut off sweats, and came to our house to touch the floor. The floors look great and, to me, it was worth it so when we added hardwood to the kitchen we called the same guy back. He seemed to be the poster child of what can happen if you breath in too many fumes. But we also suspected it might have been more a result of a misspent youth.

LOL! It wasn't the workout itself. I was just exhausted and frustrated that things I thought should be easy were not. Giving yourself permission to carve out time for yourself is hard when you are used to deferring to the needs of others. I got in my car and checked my phone which was loaded with texts and calls "needing me" and I felt overwhelmed. Maybe, partly, it was because I don't have a lot of people around me and in my life that are motivating and positive. And there, I had a whole bunch telling me "you can do it! You got this! One more! It's okay that it is hard, it's supposed to be" and it really made me realize my lack of support in the rest of my day? Not sure. Dances.

The Notebook for sure every single time. I think because it can happen to any of us, such a real life kind of story. I prepare myself with plenty of tissues when we watch it.

So many! But the first one that came to mind was "Camelot," the musical with Vanessa Redgrave as Guinevere. I was living in Manhattan at the time, and saw it with my in-laws. It really got to me.

Wow, so many listed above! And Caged, with Eleanor Parker. She goes to prison a shy, innocent kid, comes out a hardened criminal. Agnes Moorhead played the warden. I'll never forget the secretary asking what she should do with her file. Agnes Moorhead says leave it out...she'll be back.

Space Cowboys: This one surprised the heck out of me. I expected to "endure" the movie for the sake of my husband, who was the one who wanted to see it. I could barely see to leave the cineplex because I was crying so.

adella, my mom begged me to go see that movie with her (I am almost always game for things) and I put my foot down. She went anyway, and regretted it. She knew it was going to make her cry, and she did!
