I am not a vet, but the number of goats with abscesses seems too large to be coincidental injury related. I would also suspect CL. Since this can be tranmissible to humans, I would seriously consider getting a second test. Have you recently added new goats to your herd? Or taken one or more goats off farm or to a show recently where they could have been exposed to CL? If it is definately not CL they you need to do a serious investigation of your farm premises. Look for anything sharp from nails not quite nailed in all the way to exposed/broken fence wires, especially an opening where they could all be sticking their heads through to get to greener bits. Also check for glass bits turning up in the soils. Typically near barns and other buildings where during construction people leave bottles, cans, etc. around to get buried and turned up years later. You'll need to observe the herd for a few hours at different times of the day to see where they go and what they get up to...especially places where they all scratch/rub themselves. What have your vet's done so far that they don't know what to do next? Unfortunately, vets that specialize in caprines tend to be hard to find. Typically with an abscess, the vet will lance it, drain it and give the appropriate antibiotics. Then you get a list of things to do to keep the site cleaned and draining as it heals. I hope you solve this soon.

Lanette: First, Lanette, it is pretty easy in guppies to tell a female from a male, so lets makes sure it is a female. One, do you actually see baby guppies swimming away? I am not being funny here, but it will say much with re to diagnosis to determine if it is a male or female. That said, males have this little pointy thing, called a gonopodium, (penis) and females do not of course. (Internal fertilization - In many species of fish, fins have been modified to allow internal fertilization.) (A gonopodium is a modified anal fin in males of certain species of live-bearing fish in the families Anablepidae and Poeciliidae. It is movable and used to impregnate females during mating.) ................ Females have this dark gravid spot (fetal area), where eggs get fertilized and babies grow. As they grow it gets darker and she gets fatter. It is under her belly towards the back of her body. Males today unless you have the plain old fashioned ones, have much more colorful tales, of different shapes and sizes. Females though more colorful then in past, are much plainer and larger often. ................... Generally, the males tend to be a bit more colorful fish, and are slender bodied. Female fish tend to be rounder bodied and larger than male fish. Males will have an adapted anal fin called a gonopodium, while females have a fan-shaped anal fin. On to your question: Hmmm, I am not sure as I have never heard of that before, in people that would be a prolasped womb (usually in older post menopausal women). But having just gone though a fish nematode situation which started with a pink vent (anus) area with red things coming out (was hard to see in small fast moving fish, in my case blue neon rainbow) I am posting this link in case it turns out to be the same. The first shows guppies with this internal nasty parasite. So not sure but maybe can rule this out. Hi Kimmie, I hope you don't take offense when not many people answer your posts. It isn't a very busy place. I guess we're all freaking out in the corner somewhere, with our migraines, bleeding, backaches, toothaches, irritable moods.......hahaha....or with our thinking problems, we sometimes forget how to get back here! ;) How did your doctor visit go? I know when my uterus is full, my back, lower abdomen and legs hurt. Sometimes, in perimenopause, our uteruses get too thick, but don't shed, and that can lead to lots of spotting, heavy bleeding, and a heavy lower abdomen. I always would get sciatica in my leg, when my uterus was full! Perimenopause can be quite a challenge for some of us. I'm 56 and haven't had a period for about 2 years. YAY! My life has settled down tremendously, now that those hormones aren't fluctuating all over the place. But.....my ovaries are still tormenting me. I even spent Christmas day in the ER! ......had really bad ovary pain. Anyhow.....don't be shy to come here and talk. Just give everyone a while to find your posts. Just adding my ten cents worth, having read everybody's different experiences. I was seeing pink streaks of blood on the toilet paper after urinating, and at first thought it was a urinary tract infection. Antibiotics for that didn't make any difference. Then I tried to determine if it was really urinary, or perhaps vaginal instead. It seemed like it was both which seemed crazy and impossible and scared me half to death. And it was only apparent when I wiped after urinating. It wasn't like I was bleeding like with a period or anything like that. Long story short is doc explained that the urethra and the vagina share a wall, and that as I'm nearly 65 and about 13 years past menopause, it was probably that shared wall that was atrophying (drying out) and causing the light bleeding. Which made sense as my husband had major surgery about a year ago and as he's 78 years old, we just haven't gone back to regular sex which had probably been keeping my vagina well lubricated. Anyway, doc prescribed a pea sized amount of Estrace externally three times a week. I tried that for four weeks and it made no difference at all. I did some research and as I trust the Mayo Clinic, I went with their recommended dosage of 2 grams daily, some just inside the vagina with my finger, the rest externally, for one to two weeks. Halfway through the second week the bleeding had completely gone away. Mayo then says half that dosage for the next one to two weeks, which I'm trying now, and then 1 gram three times a week for three out of every four weeks as a maintenance dose. I'm going to try the pea sized amount three times a week instead and see if symptoms come back - hopefully they won't. I want to use the minimum amount possible, yet keep the problem under control. Only side effect I noticed was when I went to the 2 grams daily, my nipples were very sensitive but that has improved.
