Can't find short curtains!!!

Need short curtains for spare bedroom, nothing fancy. About 36" long. I used to have cafe type, but can't find anything in catalogs, online, ebay, etc. Do they still make short ones? I could make some, but would rather buy!

I'm almost certain you could find them in JC Penneys catalog...they have all different lengths.

K-mart's has some on line, were you doing a search using the word "curtains"; try window coverings.

I've had good luck renting with two cats, even with landlords who normally don't take pets. One, I always volunteer to pay double the security deposit. Fortunately, my cats are not destructive and always hit the litter box, so I always get the whole deposit back. Two, I tend to rent from landlords that own a few units, not from large complexes. I arrange to see the apartment before I mention a word about the cats. I want the landlord to meet me and realize that I am a good potential tenant. Then I mention the cats. Most landlords have been willing to work with me. I also offer to produce vet certificates if I think it would help. Nflifer has a point about vacant units. My current apartment is hard to rent--its a large studio, about 1,000 sf. It's large enough to be a three bedroom apartment. But because its only one room, it is really only suitable for a single person or a couple that gets along really, really well. A unit this size in my area, with a university in town, would normally have three or four roommates to split the rent. So in order to rent the place, the landlord has to charge lower than market rate rent. It had been vacant four months when I rented it. So I get low rent and a great space and the landlord has a free mouse-removal service in my cats and everyone is happy. (He says that my first winter there was the first winter no one complained about mice.)

Here's a photo from our last house. It was a Classic Pooh themed room in a 1914 bungalow, so it had tall windows with large, simple window trim. I think the trim really helped the look. I just sewed a simple rod pocket for the curtains and shirred them on tension rods inside the window. I used a simple D rod for the valance to cover the curtain header. (The picture was taken sitting on the bed, so the wood canopy of the bed obscures the wall above the windows; and please ignore the leaves on the floor as I had just moved the houseplants out to the porch after winter). Sill length was good for a kids' room since I did't have to worry about them getting stepped or pulled on, but I don't know that I've seen them used much outside of that. I generally prefer the longer lines of floor length (or almost floor length) curtains, which can still seem light and breezy if the fabric is soft, sheer, and unlined. They make the room look taller and more elegant, I think.

They sell kits that turn a single rod into a double rod ("add a rod" or some such), might be less expensive to do that than replace the whole rod. Ikea's standard length drapes are in the 95" range and ~57" (per panel) width but yes, you need more width/panels to look nice, and a double rod if you want to pull the drapes back and have the sheers show. I just finished re-draping my two large windows after the Harvey flood so I feel your pain in this endeavor.

I agree with torrey. You can always find long rods on overstock or make one yourself using piping from home depot or your local hardware store. We have made two extra long ones from piping. I know what you are talking about Bigack! I like the shorter curtains for my living room, but the only shorter curtains I'm seeing are the thin cotton kitchen ones.

JCPenney had lots of them a few years ago, but very few to choose from now. They do have a pretty good assortment at countrycurtains.com (the ones I have now are from there). You may find something there that you like.

Thanks you all, I did find some on JCP, got a navy blue, prob. too thin, but we'll see. The KT always comes through!

I love Country Curtains! My kitchen curtains (among others) are from their catalog and are 28" long.

Have you tried Gabs in clarksburg? (guess they are still open).

Don't think I have ever bought curtains, always just made them out of whatever scrap fabric i had at the house. If you decide to make them, I have lot of extra fabric.

If you find longer curtains that you love, it's easy to shorten them. Just cut them off & use the iron-on tape to hem them -- no sewing!

And you could probably make 2 curtains out of one drape piece, especially if you get the extra long one.

Do you have a Marburn Curtain store near you? I know you said you found something in a catalogue, but for future reference, Marburn has loads of short curtains in their stores--in all styles and colors. And they're usually pretty reasonably priced. I generally go there first, before working my way up to more expensive sources for curtains.

I found shorter curtains at Wally world this summer - nice texture, pretty substantial, they hang nicely and inexpensive. I bought black for my DD room, and they had other colors as well. I think it was a good purchase as kids change their minds often about the look of their room & this will be easy & cheap to change!
