What Are You Doing?

I am keeping too busy. I watch Alyssa a lot and that is about all I get done when she is with me. She is so much fun. Right now I am getting ready to fix food for a birthday supper for Amber our youngest daughter. This will be Sunday night. This is our menu with her two sisters bringing some of the food.

Beef Manhattan (this includes of course the bread, brown gravy and mashed potatoes)
Chicken and Noodles (home made noodles from fresh eggs)
Green Beans (home grown and canned)
Corn
Broccoli
Candied Sweet Potatoes (home grown sweet potatoes)
Coleslaw
Relish Plate
Apple Salad
Fruit Salad
Deviled Eggs (home grown eggs)
Cottage Cheese
Rice K. Treats
Birthday Cake

Also on the same Sunday is our church's monthly meal which of course is a pitch in dinner so I will fix some things for that too.

Also have been working when we can on cleaning out the little 3 room house we have that was used for storage and cleaning it up and going to get it painted with the girls help, inside and out. Make it livable again.

What have you all been doing to keep you busy? I am off to make the noodles.

Not much going on in my life, but here in CA we are looking forward to a bit of desperately needed rain. Today I must deliver a gift, go to Home Depot, get the dog out to play with his friends. I made chili yesterday, so it will keep me from having to cook today.

Good to hear from you, Marilyn Sue. Those homemade noodles will be so yummy.

Sachets just add one stink to another. Clean the drawers with vodka after your stain has cured in. Sitting in the garage made them smell worse as they were not getting use or air circulation. Heat breeds bacteria, which breeds stink, which is what happens when you do not use something and it sits in an unairconditioned environment. Vodka will kill the bacteria. Lots of alcohol in vodka. Use the cheapest brand money can buy and clean your drawers with it a week or so after your stain has cured in. You might have to repeat it in the warm weather. Just like houses that are not occupied, the bathroom begins to smell like the toilet was never flushed, drawers will have bacteria build up and that is where the odor arises. It's called incubation. You are growing a culture, sotaspeak.

I like my fruit refrigerated except for bananas which I keep in a bag in a cupboard. I do have a 3 tiered stand that I use for tomatoes, garlic and my car keys but the island has a large wooden bowl that is mostly decorative. I usually remove it when I start to seriously cook. Not sure of the islands dimensions but 40" x 60" seems about right.

What do you do if you cut a cord you probably shouldn't have?

Did you put tape over each of the individual wire ends in the cord, or did you simply stick one piece of tape over the whole stub? If you did the latter, it's possible that the conductors could short to one another at some point. The standard repair would be to carefully strip the outer jacket of the cord/cable back about 1" and then put a piece of tape over each of the ends of the insulated conductors (there may also possibly be a bare ground in the cord, too, that you don't have to worry about if it can't contact the other wire ends). If this is just a piece of lamp cord without an outer jacket, then it would be best to split the two conductors down the middle for an inch and then tape them. And it should go without saying that you do this with the power source turned off.

As another sleeper who wakes up at 3:30 and since this thread is still active, I’m here to chime in. I will use the 4, 7, 8 breathing method, or sometimes it’s just 3, 5, 7. I think any set of numbers works so long as they are progressively higher. Another technique I’ve used since college is to imagine my body is full of sand. I then visualize draining the sand starting with my ankles and moving up to each joint. There is some amount of exhaling going on during the draining process but that is not the main focus. I fall asleep before I get to my shoulders and neck. If you get to your head, you have eyes, nose, ears etc. to drain. My third technique is to do kegels. I figure while I’m lying awake what better use of my time? And done properly there is a some serious relaxation involved. Counting animals or alphabetical names just activates my brain. So that’s a no-go for me. Finally, if all else fails I‘ll take a book or ipad into the guest room and read until I fall asleep. I just don’t want my body to associate reading with sleep so it’s my last resort.

sitting here wondering if dh has made the right decision to leave one company for a consulting firm as it's head....the owner had a heart attack (and recovered) but it stepped up our plans, sigh! today is his last day...

much rather be thinking about fun events like the birthday party!

Finished up marching band season last week, so full swing into fund raising to pay for it and get started on next year. Working on a million work projects. And for fun, Halloweenifying (from Google's front page today) my son.

Beautiful day here! It was a little crispy this morning, with heavy frost on the cars, but we still haven't had a full killing frost so that I can begin my garden cleanup.

I had a follow-up doctor appt this morning and survived it. :O) Not sure what I'll be doing between now and Sunday night, but I am sure it's going to be fun! I'll have some friends over for darts and good food sometime this weekend, and we'll probably have a small family get-together to celebrate my mom's birthday. It might be too cold for golf, so I'll try to do at least some garden cleanup. I still need to get all of my garlic planted!

Grumbling about getting up in the dark! Come ON, end of Daylight Savings! Also not nice to see SNOW showers this morning. Our Westie was thrilled. He *loves* this kind of weather.

I helped DH flip mattresses this morning after breakfast. This is one of his two days at the high school. He helps in a frosh-soph class of kids working to read and write at grade level. They are bright kids, but many have had their educations interrupted; many Latino kids. (Anyone who thinks teachers have it 'easy' should volunteer in some classrooms for a while!)

Love to hear from Marilyn Sue, whose energy never ceases to amaze me: Fulltime wife, cook, mother, grandmother, church lady...and keeper of hens who lay multicolor eggs!

Socks, wish I could send a little of our rain south for you....my 2 hour drive home from Mom's last night was ghastly. It finally got to everyone else and traffic slowed to about 45 for poor visibility and water on the freeway close to my exit - which I thought I might miss because I couldn't see it.

Marilyn, homemade eggs noodles! I can't remember the last time I had them and have only made them a few times. Sounds wonderful, but I've got some leftover chicken, sausage, bean stew for tonight. Some broth there but the noodles would be too much for the cannellini beans already in it. Hope your dinner is a huge success and lots of fun.

I've done DH's invoicing for the week and am cleaning house today. He tells me he needs his favorite coffee pods for the Keurig, and is out of toothpaste in his bathroom. Not low....out. Why do men not give some warning.

Baby shower breakfast tomorrow morning that I'm looking forward to, a niece-in-law I'm especially fond of.

Today...finally a down-day so I can try out a new rug shampooer (from QVC) on some puddles that just keep returning after the carpet cleaners do their job. Hope, hope, hope. Huff and Puff in the afternoon and DGS here to greet Trick or Treaters coming to the door. We never know who/what he will be (25, autistic), but he loves to open the door and hand out the goodies.... in costume.

Marylyn's feast sounds so yummy... our chef (DS) will probably do another salad with salmon while I start a soup for the long wet weekend.

Speaking of men....mine is the opposite, he keeps picking up those huge packages of toothpaste and brushes even tho those products are on his shelf in his bathroom. Who knows....we dusted well and cleaned dresser drawers yesterday... 3 pkgs of underwear unopened. I guess it is good to know he is planning to stay around for a while.

I need to get the Halloween stuff out.

Been busy reclaiming my house, after a two week and two day absence, for the most part. :)

I left home on Friday of fall break, for a bike camp out... but it rained and was cold, and none of us rode. Drove home for one night, made a mess, and left again to drive to Hot Springs Arkansas with girl friends from Tulsa. Drove home for one night, made a mess, and left again, and drove west to spend a week and a day with my daughter, son in law and the grand kids. Drove home for one night, made a mess again, and left again, this time for another bike camping weekend, where I rode a total of 75 miles (on two days) on the back of Mel's tandem. Came home, again made a mess, and went back to work the next morning.

I have been working on cleaning up all those messes all week long.... ;) and now, will make a Halloween mess!

Your food always sounds so yummy, Marilyn Sue! I made chicken N dumplings yesterday so I could take it to work all weekend...which is where I was today. Just got home a little bit ago. It's cold and raining. Snow expected by midnight. I'm not looking forward to the morning commute. 80,000 people expected in Lexington this weekend for the Garth Brooks concert tonight and tomorrow. Two shows. Thankfully, the first group was still in from the 6 pm show and the 10 pm showing hadn't started in to the downtown area yet. I did notice heavier traffic on my way home, though. Not a lot but some. Hoping tomorrow night will be the same.

rob333.....cute Halloween pic of your son!

I purchased another house, rental property, a few weeks ago. Now doing a whole house remodel. The 1080 sq feet upstairs has been painted, twice. The kitchen ripped out & ordered, cabinets came in 2 days ago, finished installing them with DH today. I landscaped the front & back yard, planted 3 trees, 4 rug junipers, 3 thujas, a box elder and tree rose of sharon. I've watered everything by hand as the sprinkler system is drained. Fertilized the lawn & applied Scotts restore. Got a FREE lawnmover off CL, leaving it for the tenants. Ripped out carpet to expose the pretty wood floors. Making Sunbrella Roman shades for the 96" wide picture windows...

I haven't started on the tearout in the basement....

Still making breakfast, lunch & dinner for the 2 of us every day. Laundry....etc....
