gardens in Cuba woth visiting?
Comments (2)Yes, I also need to know where in Cuba you are going? We were in the Veradero area 2 winters ago. Veradero has a public park that you can stroll through that has labels next to the trees and shrubs and perennials. There is only one public park there and so everyone will know where it is. Depending on where you will be staying...I know that the resort we stayed at...it was beautifully landscaped and I just walked around with a camera, paper and pen and asked the gardeners I met on my stroll the names of the trees and shrubs that I saw. (Then I came home and double checked in the internet and corrected the information...for names and their spelling etc.) As far as we could see the normal person does not make enough money to do any landscaping in their yards and I did not see any nurseries or bedding plant places for anyone to buy plants at. Has anyone else seen any in their travels to Cuba?...See MoreROLL CALL: Who is still here and how long have you been here?
Comments (74)Hi garden_gal and Irma, it’s so good to hear from you both again and gratifying that you remember my little garden. In answer to your questions, we do still live in the same house. The garden looked wonderful for several years but the shrubs eventually grew very large and many of the plants died off or had to be removed. I have found it increasingly difficult to find pesticide free butterfly host plants and attractors but this is my mission again this year. The garden has evolved but I am happy to report that it is indeed still alive with butterflies, bees and hummers!...See MoreWho else is has been affected by the snowstorm?
Comments (28)We are in a warming trend here in central Ohio - all the way up to 10F right now! It was only 3-4F most of the day. Still with occasional strong gusts of wind, but nothing like yesterday with strong winds all day and never above 3F. I can't tell how much snow landed here, because the wind moved it around so much. There is at least 5-6" on my patio, though- that is how far it came up my boots when I went out to hang bird feeders. I hadn't put them out yet this year, because I didn't want to attract the deer that have been jumping my 8' fence from time to time in search of food (we have a problem with overpopulation in the neighborhood). Our electric utility has asked us to minimize consumption for today into tomorrow, for fear of high demand causing grid failure like we had last summer during a heat wave. So, I have turned off my plant lights and basement dehumidifier, will leave the porch light off (but still will keep the porch Christmas lights on for a little while - it's Christmas eve!) - and, this morning, instead of putting the new package of chicken straight from the fridge into the freezer , I cut it up, repackaged it, and set it outside to freeze first....See MoreHow to help a high flying 16 year old who's been grounded?
Comments (23)I'm going to guess she's in flat uninspiring shoes just now....some colorful socks or socks with messages? So many that are cute for teens/young women these days. Lightly tinted lip balm, a good quality body lotion. Sleep tees in a good fabric. Silly game she could play with friends like Exploding Kittens. There are some more sophisticated paint by numbers things available now. I was surprised to find how much my sister enjoyed those when recovering last year, school/college years long passed. I was trying to find little things that would be a cheerful surprise by mail, one week even resorted to a tiny initial necklace. In gold, but greatly discounted Nordstrom Rack flash sale. You might see some workable things there, flash events change daily. I might be careful with something personal like a massage session - being someone who really hates them ;) Could you do a manicure appointment for her and a friend to go with her? Even if not one to pay close attention to her hands, she might enjoy that with a buddy. Haircut certificate at her favorite salon? And there are always spring flowers. I will research and call a local florist personally when I can rather than resort to an online service....See Moremorz8 - Washington Coast
