Has anyone been watching the giraffe cam? Autumn JUST gave birth about 10 minutes ago. Go to Google, and type in giraffe cam to watch.

I've been watching off and on for days and was thrilled to be able to watch her labor and delivery.

Well, let's hope Father Verizon, with the red hat and fur, treats you well this year! Do you have cable in your area that sells high-speed internet? I don't have DSL either - but 1/2 mile away in all directions they have it, so I got cable. My cable company claim 4MB download speed and I'm getting 3.86 consistently. Upload they claim 356 kbps and I do get that. You can check your true, vice claimed, connection speed on a website called Speakeasy.com My cable company is upgrading to 6MB in January. DSL claims 1.5MB so you might want to get a cable modem. They are faster, but it costs more. Worth it IMHO. My sister, who lives on a very rural horse farm, but is near Chapel Hill, NC has DSL on the farm (go figure). She also watches the Africam (and is hooked) on DSL and she gets freezing here and there, but not enough to make her not want to watch. Lately I've not gotten any freezing at all, but on the rare occasion when the site is extremely busy. CT

Just a note...the Nkorho Pan has been out of commission for several days and though it is finally back on, it's still not up to par. While it was down, I started spending more time at the Africam Tembe location. I've seen, in just the last few days: lions, a leopard, rhino, elephants, hyena, civit, a zillion different antelope species, wildebeest, lots of storks and ibis (and other birds), zebra, and a very special visit by three very rare African spotted wilddogs. It's nearly 10:00 a.m. where I am, and it is still daylight. Giraffes are browsing in the trees. Two are 'necking'...which can be an aggressive act. The Africams utilize infrared cameras so that we can watch the night-time activities around these water holes. That's when the predators come out. http://www.africam.com/wildlife/tembe_webcam

Isn't nature wonderful! I also watch Phoebe the hummingbird in Irvine A where a big bird destroyed the nest and the two babies are gone/ the worst is feared! Mom is rebuilding another nest - http://phoebeallens.com/... Extreme sadness and now rebirth!

Raven, the video you posted is, indeed, of the birth, but it is a copyright violation. There is small print in the lower right-hand corner of the screen that says Copyright Animal Adventure Park. Not for recorded reuse or streaming without consent. Folks should go to the Animal Adventure Park page on Facebook or to their official YouTube channel to watch the recording.

I still haven't seen Autumn nurse the baby. It seems that it is just chasing the mother all over to no avail. Apparently, bottle feeding is common with zoo-born giraffes. :-(

It was amazing to watch that bag of wet bones fall to the ground yet end up chasing its mother all over the place in such a short period of time.

I still haven't seen Autumn nurse the baby.

I have right after you posted about her finallyhaving the baby.
It might have been part of the necessary bonding
