So my Birthday was okay

The weekend before was FABOULOUS but today was okay. Only cool thing is I have an apartment to look at tomorrow. It's a half hour from my desired location and 10 minutes from my new job. Rent is cheaper then desired location but still expensive. I will be able to afford it at least. Just hope its a nice place. DH is going with me because he wants me to be in a nice place and safe.

So today I turned 52. Don't look it....don't feel it and don't act like it.

good for you...you really are lucky that you and dh are able to remain friendly...

lets hope the apt is ok...maybe a transition for something at a later date when you have become established in the new job? location and security where you park are biggies....sorry to hear your choices are expensive...

If there is root rot, I would gently remove all the soil from the roots, cut back the rotten tissue and let the wounds air-dry for about 2 days. If you have a powder fungicide, it would be nice. Simultaneously I would remove any old and damaged leaves and leave the newest spear untouched. Next, I would plant it into a new dry soil mix and leave it somewhere warm and dark for another week. I would gradually expose it to brighter conditions, maintaining the warmth, and water lightly. I can't tell you how much to water without knowing the pot size and soil type, but it should be just enough to keep the soil barely moist. Finally...pray for the best.

I've had self-cleaning ovens for over 30 years, and I've used dozens of them--both electric and gas as a home ec teacher and demonstration cook. yes, you're supposed to remove the racks. I never do. Leaving them in is the easiest way to clean them. They do darken, and yes, they may not slide quite as easily after going through the cleaning cycle, but that's a minor trade-off to me. I also put the top grates (gas range) and any cast iron that I want to clean and reseason in the oven while it self-cleans. Everything comes out beautifully, and no work for me. If you are a purist and don't want to leave the racks in, the alternative method, I hear (haven't tried it) is to put the racks in a trash bag with ammonia, seal, let them soak a while, then clean.

One of the coolest hints received when I started using my scale was to use the "tare" command. For instance, put a bowl on the scale and press tare; add 7 grams of salt, press tare (which returns the weight to zero); add 454 grams of flour, press tare; add 65 grams of sugar, press tare; and so on without ever bothering to empty the bowl!! This method is really simple and a significant time saver when you are measuring or weighing several dry ingredients that will be combined immediately anyway. It is especially good to weigh flour. You can be consistent and don't have to worry about not compressing it and getting to much into your cup measure. Have fun with your scale. I still smile when I get mine out which I always do when I make bread or any other baked goods. I THINK I got the hint about using the tare button (which everyone else probably already knew!! from the Smitten Kitchen website, which is a fun read. I linked it below. Thanks for the votes of confidence. I really thought I'd be starting a riot. So many people have told me just to leave it alone, it's fine, classic white kitchen, etc. But it's just never felt right. Now I'm excited about it! The rugs were just cheapies from Kirklands. So not worth heart failure, Amy! Believe me, paint would be the most mild thing that has ever been on them. Dog slobber, muddy paws, hair, pancake batter drips, grease splatters, various sundry spilled drinks, etc. all adorn those rugs. The beauty of the pattern is that they show nothing, and they're wool, so they've so far been indestructable. Just to set everyone's mind at ease, the pic of the paint tray was at the very, very end of the project, and there was only a few drops left in the deepest part of the paint well. No rug was harmed in the filming of this project. :)

I hope the apartment is great. It's hard to believe that you are 52--when we first "met", you were just a kid! Where has the time gone?

Happy Birthday!
I agree that the most important factor is safety for your new place. I have been through this with both my daughters.
Since you are renting, I say go safest but cheapest at first. Once you get the lay of the land, you will find something that you really like.
Being only ten minutes from work is a great bonus. Who wants to waste an hour or two in travel time? Half hour away from your target area is fine too.
I am also glad that you are good terms with your ex and he really has stepped up in helping you with this important move.

Wow, ten minutes away, great saving on wear and tear of vehicle plus gas too.

If you get long enough lunch hour you could actually go home if you want too.

Happy Birthday, you are still young and lots to do in your life.

That is great that you ex wants you safe and sound and good idea too to having someone else check it with you.
