I thought "A Late Quartet" was wonderful (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), I actually watched it twice.
Happy Valley is a 6 part story of a kidnapping gone wrong; it's English, and the dialogue may be a little hard to understand.
Appropriate Adult also is a short series made in England and quite good.
I recently started watching "Rake" which is Australian series about a rather wild defense lawyer. Can't decide whether it's a drama or a comedy, but not bad.
There's also "House of Cards" if your interested in Washington politics. It's in its second reason on streaming.
Orange is the New Black is one of my favorites. Netflix created it and there are two seasons on streaming.

I recently watched and enjoyed "The Family", with Robert De Nero and Michelle Pfeifer. About a family relocated to France via the Witness Protection Program. Serio/comic, violent at times.

We've been watching "Hell on Wheels" (which is now in its 4th season). Excellent show.

"Station Agent" - a short (90 minutes) film with Peter Dinklage, Patricia Clarkson and Bobby Cannavale. It's a quirky tale of 3 lonely strangers whose paths mingle.

I saw Twisted last night on streaming. It is a very good movie with a surprise ending.

Socks, I just watched All is Lost also and enjoyed it...so different, but I could watch Redford all day no matter what role is is playing. :)

We haven't watched any movies on Netflix lately, but watched a 4 season show called The Killing. It's a cop show, but it's different from most cops shows. I hate cop shows, they're all the same. But this one leaves you guessing and there's a few side stories going on at the same time. It takes place in Seattle.

Now we're watching The 4400. We into season 3, episode 10. I think there are 4 seasons as well. Kind of like Hero's in premise, but not like Heroes at the same time. Also takes place in Seattle, but it was filmed mostly in Vancouver (I recognized a few places, especially episode 3 in season one was clearly Steveston). It's an interesting show.

"We into"? LOL Must remember there's a next screen for a reason. Must proof read...... ;)

I recently watched "Moms night out" and I wasn't crazy about it.
Another one, but I only lasted 5 minutes watching it..well, not even. It was titled "Bad Grandpa". ugh! terrible, disgusting movie. Who thinks this stuff up anyway? Those are two movies I should have researched a little better.
I just don't get some of the movies today.

The Station Agent is one of my favorite films ever.

If you like comedy, lots of stars and birds, I recommend The Big Year.

Granlan, didn't "All is Lost" remind you of that Tom Hanks movie "Cast Away?" Redford and Hanks are both superior actors.

I'm making a list for later. I enjoyed watching United States of Tara. It was recommended by a friend. Frozen Ground was an interesting based on a true story thriller. Devil's Knot was another interesting movie based on a true story. I also enjoyed Odd Thomas and An Extreme Fear of Everything, but they might be a little too odd/out there for some.

More applause here for The Station Agent! We watched it a few weeks ago, loved it, watched it twice. The story is gentle and the cast is exceptional.

It was super hot out today and smoke in the air from wildfires so did nothing but watch tv.

This is why we haven't used Netflix. We watched "The Station Agent" and "The Last Quartet" *ages* ago on DVD's from our library. Whenever I find a good movie on Netflix, we've already seen it.

It's the same story with the offerings on DirecTV's 'premium' channels. If it's anything we'd enjoy... we've already seen it.

We are currently watching George Clooney it "Up In The Air", despite the poor reviews. We've only watched the first half, but we like it.

I forgot to tell you all about one of my favorite movies I have watched on Netflix. It is called "The Letter Writer" It's about an elderly man who every single day writes the most uplifting and beautifully written letter, as if he knows this person then looks thru the phone book and sends it an anonymous person. He also uses a different name other then his own. He happens to send one to a very trouble young lady and she decides to find him... she does and the most wonderful friendship develops between them and it changes her life....It's just a great, make you feel good movie.

I didn't care for The Letter Writer, but I really loved A Late Quartet, which featured the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also, I'm working through House of Cards, and a wonderful series that I missed years ago: The West Wing, which has the most wonderful dialogue and acting.Also, Netflix is still showing Doc Martin (series) and the IT Crowd, which I thought was a hilarious series.

Speaking of Phillip Seymour Hoffman.....I do not have Netflix, but would like to find the series Empire Falls that aired on HBO in 2005.
It had an all-star cast: Ed Harris, Helen Hunt, Paul Newman, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joanne Woodward, Dennis Farina....
It was several episodes long and I really enjoyed it.

I just started watching The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I am only about halfway through....I am anxious and scared about how it may end.

Oh! I forgot about the Masterpiece movie The Escape Artist.
Did anyone see that? I thought it was incredibly engaging with twists and turns. Just enough villain vs. hero (turned righteous villain) to keep me on the edge of my seat. Brilliant.
Would watch again if I see it.

Morning Glory

An ex-convict who is on parole is accused of murdering a loose woman in the town where he works.

This TV movie was charming. An old and oft-seen story, prone to cliché, it could easily have been embarrassing. However, Riffen and Reeves pull it off. One reviewer found Riffen far too old. I would never have guessed she was 40 when she made this film. It is to her credit as an actress that she played a 23-24 year old amazingly well. I also think it is about the best thing Reeves ever did. The story could have been stronger, and I agree the screen play could have used "tightening." Nonetheless, it is well worth watching; clearly not a powerful love story, but rather, a charming romance which will leave you satisfied that love is a strong emotion and good overcomes evil. And it is nice to see a "love story" without the obligatory f#$% word, the naked buttocks, or hours of spit-swapping kissing.
