How Do You LIke To Eat Your....?

How do you like to eat your cornbread? I only like it hot with butter or in a bowl crumbled up with sugar and milk on it. Of course I like corn casserole and corn meal mush the later with sugar and milk on it. I like to eat it with soup beans but I don't want it crumbled up in them. So how do you like yours?

I make it occasionally for DH and DS. Never sweet, never with cake mix added in, never from a mix. I add in corn kernels and canned anaheim chile peppers. We have it with my home made chili usually.

I might eat one piece, but never more.

Sugar and milk - well, just no.

Cornbread--I like mine sweet and cake. Served: hot with butter, or butter and honey. Or topped with BBQ, caramelized onions and cheddar. Or reheated, topped with butter and drizzled with maple syrup.

corn muffins--see above. Sometimes I like to add a diced tomato and some cubed mozzarella.

Cornmeal mush--with butter and real maple syrup (preferably Grade B)

Also like cornmeal made up into pancakes.

also like Sweet Mexican corn cake, or corn casserole.

Can you tell I just like cornmeal, made into pretty much anything?

Depends on the pepper. Jalapenos get stuffed or cut into rings and thrown on practically anything. If by some freak chance they don't get gobbled up immediately they get turned into bread and butter pickled jalapenos. I dry a lot of my peppers. Lots of dried sili labuyos, chili de arbols, cayennes right now. Put em through a coffee grinder for flakes. I'll just use kitchen shears to chop up a whole dry cayenne to add to spaghetti sauce or add a few to a stew. Scissor chop a few into some ground beef, with garlic, basil and black pepper and make burgers. Looking to make a sili labuyo vinegar, but I think I need to learn a little more about it first. Habs and stuff usually get baked into a pizza or chopped up in a big sandwich. I have to use the superhots with caution. The only chinense I'm growing now is chocolate scotch bonnets and those are brutally hot in my opinion. It's a fantastic flavor. I think it would make a really good hot sauce. Get creative too. Some of the thicker walled habs, can be dried in a food dehydrator. Possibly ground up, and used year round. Or dried in a smoker. If you have too much ground pepper, make some hot sauce. Make a pepper mash. I'm learning about that and hope to make something similar to that Silafunghi stuff cause it's highly addictive, overpriced, and is almost never in stock.

Before we remodel we struggled w/ this issue. In the end we made a bigger investment so that we could eat at a table & have an island. I am very glad we did. I almost always choose to have our family dinner at the table-- it seems so much more civilized and relaxed and an improtant time for our family of four to be/dine together -- which is only 3-4 times a week. When we sit at the table there have been so many improtant discussions that take place. They are critcal teaching moments for our teenage children. Also I am a stickler for table manners & it is hard to do that the island. Lunch & Breakfast happens at the island. FYI- We increased the kitchen floor plan byremoving diningroom wall & absorbing that space into our kichen plan. The dining room furniture then moved to share space with our oversized living room. Two years later- I am sooo happy we did this.

Meatloaf? Who can EAT THAT STUFF??? Just kidding, well... just kidding a little bit. I was ruined by growing up on poor people meatloaf. I mean poooooooor people meatloaf. If the ground beef mama used had a lean to fat ratio it was probably 50%/50%! I swear what she put into the oven raw was the size of a watermelon and what came out was a plump breakfast sausage. I guess it was basically fat soaked bread crumbs with ketchup on top. Yeah cynic, cheap Winn Dixie ketchup. But hey, somewhere, somehow the rich folks ate meatloaf with meat in it I guess.

for the very first time,I was able to get this Honeycrisp you all talk about...really good,and lovely when done "baked" something no one mentioned that I used to pick years ago where I used to live-Wolf River Apples...a very very old type which kept well,made lovely pies and pie filler..not the greatest to eat just out of your hand...and it was also a very LARGE apple....bigger than a regulation baseball..waaay bigger

I like mine with beans or chili. I don't like sweet cornbread. I also don't like yellow. White only. I have a recipe for corn sticks that is made with fresh corn and egg white folded into it. It has a tiny bit of sugar...also made with cream. It is so good...I can eat that just by itself.
I also like white cornbread made into cornbread dressing.

Cornbread with butter and jelly. Cornmeal mush fried with syrup, sooo good!!

hot, with butter. One of the few times I allow myself to eat butter. Mostly, I try to be "good", cause of my high cholesterol.

Hot with butter. DH puts it in the bottom of his bowl and puts his ham and beans over it. With another couple of slices on the side with butter and honey.

Don't want full kernels of corn in mine. And I don't like it gritty. If it's going to be eaten as a dessert, then put frosting on it and have it sweet like any other cake. If it's a meal accompaniment, then not sweet/cakey with just a light bit of real butter melted on it.

I'm not big on cornbread and don't find much good stuff around anyway.

I add chopped jalapenos and some honey to the mix. Delicious with butter!
