I'm lucky to have very close relationships with two of my three brothers and their families. We turn into kids again within five minutes and laugh all day long.

This brother is a real 'foodie' and when they visit, we spend lots of time in the kitchen together. We'll do some sightseeing, of course, something we all enjoy doing.

Tomorrow, we'll put the pig on the grill to cook (and smoke) for around 8-10 hours; I'll make a spiced zucchini cake with lemony cream cheese frosting, and bake some rolls.

I'm lukewarm about family visits, it depends who it is and how long they stay. I like them much more when they're short and/or the visitors stay in a hotel or motel. I've always done that when I visit.

My barber has a great sign hanging in the shop, it applies to family visits.

"Visitors bring happiness to this place. For many, it's when they arrive. For others, it's when they leave".

I know the feeling -- it's even better when they're foodies too! Enjoy!

Yes, I get up there to visit, too. It's always fun to go back 'home' for visits. Central NY is a beautiful part of the country, and though I would never want to live in the NE again, it's a "nice place to visit".

I've always liked visitors in my homes. As far as being a guest, it depends on the host and the situation. This particular family owns a big Victorian that they've turned into a B&B. It's kinda nice to stay there, lol!

Can't sleep, so here I am, answering late.

I love family visits! Doesn't matter who, or how long. Never seems like it is to long, always seems like it is to short.

But honestly I do breathe a sigh of relief, when all is back to normal too. ;)

Rhizo, I really enjoyed your post. It made me happy to read about your excitement and it is refreshing to hear about a family who enjoys each other. So many times families are split for whatever reason (or none at all) and that is so sad to me. Before the arthritis, extra weight and other ailments set in I used to love having company. no visitors fro us...mostly all are left are cousins...the trial of being an only child, too...we see most of the local children at least once a month (at soccer, lol) but oldest dd is out of state so it's holidays....we do stay with them on the way to fil...

It is beyond special when my family is here! Every moment is cherished. And when they go, it's nice to get things back to quiet normal.

My parents spend quite a bit of time with us throughout the year and that's okay because they are comfortable treating my house like it's their own. I wouldn't say their visits are fun, but I don't mind them. I wish my brother would visit, but leave his wife at home...lol.

I'm happy for you and know you will have a wonderful time with your family visiting. Being an only child, I have no family, and our only daughter lives too far away to get to visit us very often. We can't travel to her either.

Thanks for sharing the joy, everybody. I've been having fun with the preparations today, doing some more shopping (food and stuff), arranging flowers for their rooms....all great fun for me.

They'll be here mid afternoon tomorrow.....just in time for (early) cocktail hour! We'll be able to sit out on our back patio/porch for drinks and nibbles and catch up.

This is my eldest brother and I love him dearly. He's the rock of the family, a role he takes on willingly. His wife is the sister I never had ; I couldn't love her more if she were.

I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about it, lol.

I understand completely. My son, who lives in another state, is our house guest for the week right now. Last week it was our daughter. We just moved a few months ago after living in the house where they were both raised (we had lived there 20 years). It is fun watching them explore and get to know this new place. I love the anticipation of the visit, having everyones favorite food and drink. I just love it all. When they leave it is hard to see them go, but at the same time, it is nice to have the house back to ourselves. Have fun!!!

Oh Rhizo, I'm so happy for you. Family is everything to me. Both my parents are gone, I have one brother that lives just a couple miles away, my two sisters and other 2 brothers are hours away. One brother lives in Ga. Lucky if we see him once a year.

Both our kids live away, one in Baltimore the other one in Delaware. They make it home maybe every other month, maybe.

I absolutely adore when any of them come. I'll take them for any amount of time I can get. Both kids will be home at the end of October for the annual Halloween party at my SIL's house. It will be fab!!

That's great! I am the same way, we don't get family visiting very often but we just love it when we have them. This is the closest we have lived to my family in Louisiana so we have had more visits here than any of our other homes which is very enjoyable. However now we are farther away from husband's family in Oklahoma. We used to visit them often and they would visit us too. I guess it is balancing out, for years we were near them and now we are near my family.
With the RV it makes those trips and visits easier and more comfortable too!

Hi! SIL is napping and 'the boys' have gone off to visit the Space and Rocket museum.

We've been having a wonderful time together. This area has lots to offer and we don't take advantage of it as often as we should. Luckily, the weather has cooperated, too, so we've enjoyed being out and about.

Best kind of company possible; self sufficient, easy going, ready for anything, help out without being asked, wicked sense of humor, and every other good quality.

We've decided to have a feast of favorite hor dourves.....for supper! So far we've planned chicken satay, grilled shrimp with ginger/apricot sauce, mini cream puff pastry stuffed with smoked salmon and cream cheese, gazpacho, turkey sliders, candied bacon, and I don't know what else. Something with puff pastry. I'll make a crunchy salad to tie it all together and we've got a stock of local beers and wine.

We've invited some great friends to enjoy the evening with us and to play charades.....always a family favorite. Our friends are hilarious at charades ; no inhibitions with this group.
