Wedding wrapping paper?

I'm going to another wedding on Saturday and this time chose gifts off their registry. I didn't stop and think about how big and heavy the gifts would be. lol! I have lots of wrapping paper to choose from, but the more traditional papers for weddings aren't large enough to cover one of the boxes. I do, however, have oversize non-traditional dark wrapping papers that I could use.

Is it wrong to use a dark wrapping paper for wedding gifts? I have a dark blue w/ white, gold, and magenta design, or a black w/ vivid multi-color design. Can I use one of those or should I go to the store for something more "traditional"?

FWIW, I don't think this will be a very formal wedding... it's being held in their back yard!

In today's society, if you don't wrap with the Sunday comics, it will be fine.

Growing up our Christmas tree was always colored lights and a hodge podge of ornaments usually with our names (sister and I) on them. We'd get ornaments every year. Since there was so much going on with the tree we pretty much used whatever wrapping papers we liked. There were always tons to pick from and honestly it all looked good. Now I decorate a small tree with my ornaments the same as when I was growing up and it still makes me smile. Very homey and reminds me of my childhood. BUT, the big tree we have (did our first one last year) since there were only a few ornament colors I picked wrapping paper to match because honestly it would've bugged me. This year we changed the blue ornaments to red so it's red, white, silver, cream and I bought different paper to coordinate. Years from now when we finally have kids I'm sure all this matchy, matchy perfection stuff might go out the window!

Nope, none of that in the compost! I did get the remains of the Thanksgiving turkey, made 2.5 gal of stock, chopped up all the skin/cartilage and froze in portions for a local stray cat, and composted all the small bones. Of the 28 lb turkey, only 2 lb of large bones actually went into the landfill. I don't know about carcinogens, but if paper burns with pretty flame colors, the ink has metals in it, some of which are flying up the chimney. Probably not a good idea. I prefer to reuse as much as possible, which means carefully unwrapping big items and saving the paper. However I am usually at the inlaws at Christmas, and they are a family of tearers. They don't get it. My sister in law practically has OCD about gathering every piece of paper immediately and stuffing it into a trash bag. I'm the weird guy who recycles everything, so now she lets me have the fancy bows (haven't bought bows for years) and the shirt boxes which we fold up and store for next year. I do what I can.

Love the reindeer paper. I should check my supply of wrapping paper but I have so little bought that I haven't bothered. DD bought a house and thoughtfully gave me a great list ranging from a teaball to an electric tea kettle. DH and I aren't exchanging this year since since we have a big purchase coming up and the boys haven't given me any suggestions. They'll probably end up with gift cards (which I detest) but I have to admit it makes the most sense.

I agree that beautifully presented gifts do not have to cost much. My favorite DIY touches come from my garden... a sprig of rosemary or clipping of boxwood tied with twine on plain craft paper. I also have a hearty lavender bush, and I love to clip from it because the leaves still have a light scent even in winter. My favorite paper is an ivory craft paper. (It's not all paper-bag brown anymore). Some green garden twine... cheap. And various dried florals. I work with dried florals so always have extras, but you can go outside and snip anything from your garden. Greeting cards have become ridiculously expensive for what they are, IMO. Instead, I use a lot of dried florals for greeting cards, too. Plain white or ivory stock cards from the craft store work just fine. I know an amateur photographer who prints his favorite landscape shots and flower close-ups, attaches them to the front of plain card stock, and uses them for thank-you's, birthdays, invites, etc. The handwritten message on the inside is what makes it so special. I'm wrapping a few special gifts today... I'll try to remember to take a photo.

I would wrap in whatever you have. They'd have to be pretty horrible people if they bad-talked your wrapping of a generous gift.

I think I'd love it if somone gave me a gift. Wrapped or not. But honestly, I think it'd add a great touch to the table. Go for it!

naughtykitty, I was thinking it might be considered 'bad luck' to wrap a wedding gift in a dark paper. :p

Presents are wrapped and look great! I used the dark blue and added metallic magenta ribbon. :) Thanks, everyone!

It's kind of funny what we obsess over. Do we actually think that the next day, next week, next month or next year that anyone will be discussing our gift wrap choices?

I'm one of those people who do enjoy choosing paper, coordinating ribbon, selecting a special (expensive ) card.?but at the same time, I do realize that when it's not possible, then I make do!

lol..they'd be lucky if it came in a box from me!

btw look for plastic bags like for bikes ect, for oversized presents..that what we had to use for our ds' small freezer we bought several years back....

Your wrapping paper sounds gorgeous!

I once wrapped a co-worker's birthday present in a precious pale yellow paper with a print of pastel flowers & umbrellas.

must have bought it without my glasses.

It wasn't until I'd wrapped it, taken it to the office, & put it on the 'gift table' that I noticed the tiny little script all over it saying, "Welcome, Precious Baby".

I was mortified, but the birthday girl (& everybody else) laughed.

I wouldn't worry about it being dark. I attended several weddings in the past year and was surprised to see many guests wearing black. To an old lady like me it didn't seen right, but must be the current style.

I once had to wrap a weber grill. BIG box. I used some leftover wallpaper that was silver background with dogwood branches on it. Very weddingish and it covered the whole box without having to piece meal it. Maybe you could find some discontinued roll of wallpaper at an inexpensive price. I had some paper in my attic.

georgysmom, wallpaper would have been the perfect thing! I always have extra rolls on hand to use as drawer and shelf liners. Everything is already wrapped though, so I'm leaving it as it is.

Rose_NW_PA, I went to a wedding recently where the bride wore black! she is an amazingly voluptuous red-haired young woman, and her hair, dress, headpiece, and makeup was styled as if in the 1920s. She was gorgeous!!!

My husband wraps his presents for the kids and grandkids. One time he wrapped a grown granddaughter's gift in a paper that had pregnant woman pictures all over it. I guess it was a baby shower paper. Many times for birthday's their gifts will come in Christmas paper. He just pulls out whatever is in his collection of wrapping paper he keeps in his room.
