Restful Weekend

I've been so busy since school started that I haven't had much time on the weekends to recoup for the week. This weekend was very relaxing. I even got a nap both days! :) Yesterday, I got in some garage sailing and breakfast with a friend, fall swap shopping, and saw the local ballet students perform. They were so good! And the one performance was like nothing ballet related I'd ever seen. It was a roarin' twenties silent film theme. Today, I ran some errands, and laid on the couch to read! DH is making dinner. I'm feeling spoiled and refreshed.

It's murderously hot here so I'm moving very slowly and not accomplishing much. I've watched two Hallmark movies, one yesterday and one today, something I wouldn't normally take the time to do. I really get behind schedule when I can't work on projects on the weekends. I think our weather is forecast to remain unseasonably hot for the foreseeable future. Yuck!

I made a post about what I've been doing, wish I had seen your post first, I would've just added to it. ( : Just wanted to say that I wish it was still hot here, Fun2BHere, it was 46 this morning!!! It did warm up later in the day and was actually a beautiful day, not hot and not cold.

Well, it got cold enough my nose was cold all night and I had to pull the dog and cats up around me for warmth. LOL. It did not frost or freeze, at least on my property. Now, I have that mountain of tomatoes and green peppers to do up I harvested in a panic. It's a lucky thing for those tropicals, as I did not bring them in. I watch the weather on nearly an hourly basis, because of my business. I've stuff in g'houses to winter over for next spring, I can't afford to lose and I have all the heaters turned off and they've not had their winter inspection or maintenance yet. I suspect we'll get our Indian summer directly and I'm leaving the tropicals out until I have to move them in. I don't cover flowers with sheets. I let nature take it's course. My vegetables, however, that's a different story. Micheal there is nothing negative about being up a creek, as long as you have your paddle with you. LOL. Around here there is also nothing wrong with being down the river, unless somebody spirited you away to sell. Living on a river one can literally traverse clean to the gulf, I've studied a lot about it's early history. I'd suspect that saying came about because when this territory was first entered, everyone was in the same predicament. IOW, land rich and money poor. Everyone also grew the same crops and the only way real money could be earned was to grab what you could afford to do without and stuff it in a flat boat down to New Orleans, or "sell it down the river". The corn often ended up in a fermented liquid product, if you know what I mean. LOL. You couldn't barter your taxes paid.

I did open the jugs up that had not sprouted from 12/30 and the soil seems moist when you feel it in your fingers. I took an exacto knife and cut a few slits near the bottom of the jugs, used the same knife and lightly raked over the seeds to give them more contact with the soil...taped them back up again. I'll give them another week, if nothing starts by then, I'll just sow more. I looked back on my Dave's garden diary/blog where I've been keeping notes, and I was using up some MG moisture control potting mix at that time. I had purchased it last Summer. I have more seeds of all I put out in those jugs..chalk it up for experience..we all know gardening is all trial and error sometimes. Thank You all for your advice.

Rita, you've finished a 2ND postage stamp top? You are now officially my hero! I've been saving scraps, trimming, and sewing blocks for a couple of years now in hopes that I'll one day have enough done to put together one postage stamp quilt. I think it's just amazing that you've finished two! MLinda, I'm with you. I just printed off the tutorial for those granny squares and might make a block today. So far this weekend I've finished and packaged up two birthday blocks for the exchange. The first was a magic tricks block, and the other was quilters choice done in blue, so I made one of blue strips going various ways in sets, framed in more blue. The next two blocks for the birthday exchange are basic star patterns, so I think I'm going to get ahead of the game and make those today. Then I want to work on my sister's lonestar quilt, which I had to start all over because the points came out a bit wonky in my first attempt. That wasn't a total loss though, thankfully! I'm going to use it to make pillows, which will coordinate with the quilt. Look at me sewing like a rock star! (yep, I love watching Anne Burrell on the foodnetwork) Yesterday I bought a new-to-me sunflower-themed table runner kit while at a local quilting shop, so depending on how the day progresses, I may get into that as well. And of course, now that Sandra has me interested in the granny squares, I may try that one out today as well! Good thing I'm off and able to relax today, eh? Lol! -Dan

Anyone with some extra 100's, send it this way. That would boost the energy levels for outside activity. Cooked up garden tomatoes, which immediately turned into superbly delicious Chili & Spaghetti sauce. Got some Happy Hour at the beach today. Sometimes weekends need to have 72 hours.

It's 5:30 PM, and it's still 104 here. I'd love to send some of it away. Supposed to be this hot until midweek, and then become humid. Oh joy!

Beautiful weather here in north Missouri today. It is our 40th wedding anniversary. Church this morning, a nice lunch at Applebees, and DS#2 and his girlfriend came over this afternoon and baked us a nice heart-shaped cake. :)

DS#1 and spouse seem to have forgotten. :(

Now we are going out to a late supper with friends.

In looking over my post, looks like we've eaten a great deal today - yep, we have.

It actually cooled down a little in the Houston area. I did garden work, raked up leaves, washed the dogs, made veggie soup.

Alice, my oldest daughter is a middle school teacher (more administration this year) and I honestly don't know how teachers do it. It seems that my daughter is never finished with work and so much of her time at home is spent catching up with school work. Im glad you had a chance to relax this past weekend and congrats on having a DH who cooks! Satine

My weekend? Not my turn to be pampered. I lifted and set down heavy equipment several times (loading and unloading the truck with band stuff) on Friday until 11PM or so. Then I got up at 4:45AM or so to work parking at football game from 5:30-11:30AM (it was my place of work. We won, so I am happy about that!). Exhausted after little sleep and much physical activity!!!!! In no better shape. I keep thinking, if I can continue doing this, I might lose some weight. That I am helping out my son's marching band matters, but I'd really like to see the physical payoff to the physical work. Volunteering and fund raising have different payoffs than physical work ;)

On Saturday we had a large birthday party/picnic at our house for me. I spent hours Friday evening shopping for food, and most of Saturday cooking. I made 6 quarts of pulled-pork BBQ, new potato salad, curried couscous, jalapeno corn bread, cucumber yogurt soup, vegetarian baked beans, and many of the guests also brought dishes to share. I think there were nearly 50 people, and they all seemed to have a good time, since the party started around 4:30 and ended hours later sitting around a campfire under the stars.

Much of Sunday was spent relaxing with my brother and his family and cleaning up after the big shindig.
