It's very possible he isn't wearing the proper shoes. They should be lace-up, not slip on. If they are old, they could be worn-out inside or not have appropriate support. Some kind of Dr. Scholl's foam inserts might help soften the bottom of the shoes. If he has flat feet, he might need something with arch support.

What helps me is a good washing with whatever soap to cool them off, then massage with lotion. Also stretching the feet, ankles, calves.

Maybe he should try the gel inserts at the drugstores.

I can't imagine doing all that walking in most likely warm weather, without a good pair of sandals with good arch support in them. Poor guy--I feel for him!

Soak feet in a hot foot bath with epsom salts.

For immediate relief try ice.
I keep a couple of water bottles in the freezer and roll them with my feet.
Espom salts soaks at night,
And good walking shoes and maybe an anti inflammatory in the am and pm.

I also agree with the "check the footware" advice. When standing and walking all day, even shoes with good support need to be tight enough (and not loose) so that the feet don't move around in the shoe. That all by itself can cause discomfort by the end of the day.

My feet will cramp at night if I've had to walk around big box stores during the day-- even wearing my most supportive shoes. All that concrete! He could look for every opportunity to walk on dirt or grass and avoid hard surfaces.

Yes to lace-up shoes with thick soles and good support. I doubt there's a sandal with enough support. He could change his socks during the day.

Soaking his feet in warm water and epsom salts for a few minutes may help. Elevating his feet should help, and he could look for opportunities to do that periodically during his rounds.

(We are presuming there's no underlying health problem.)

My DM would say take a can and roll your foot on it. I think it stimulates the nerves. I usually use a soup can but any kind will work

I've had foot troubles for years and I can tell you NOTHING helps! When my feet hurt I will soak them Epsom salt hoping for help but not really getting any. The other night I had a fit with my feet and remembered I had some Podiacin Soak'N Massage Pain Relieving Gel. It did help but I just found out it was taken off the market. If you can find it somewhere get it!

There were so many good ideas that I printed out the thread & gave it to him this afternoon (will have to mention the soup can & the Podiacin Soak "n Massage Pain Relieving Gel tomorrow.)

He said he already got the witch hazel & the epsom salts, & that he is going shoe shopping this week-end.
