Happy Birthday to me....

Kinda late, but I've had several delays in getting this all together.(See my earlier post on September 18th.)

My birthday was Saturday, June 21st. My family did all the planning, and the work, and due to their work schedules, had my birthday party on Sunday June 22nd. The party was held in my side yard. This was not a Surprise party.

We were blessed with a beautiful day, weather-wise, and by the presence of many friends from down through the years and some new friends/neighbors that I have met here at the Retirement Community. Total number present was 47, plus two calls from California, my 20 year old great grandson and an 80 year old nephew. My son was here from SC, with my grandson and a great grandson, so I had a full house over the weekend.

A canopy provided shade under a tree, and a 10x10 foot white tent was set up with two refreshment tables. My DGD, the cupcake girl, made dozens of beautiful delicious cupcakes, plus a ("just for me") six inch, four layer, chocolate birthday cake with white frosting and candles. We had vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream, a variety of soft drinks and bottled water; not to forget toppings and bananas, if anyone wanted a banana split. What is better for a birthday than ice cream and (cup) cakes? And of course there were flowers and balloons. The invitations stated No Gifts Please. That was observed except for one dear 95 year old friend who gave me a lovely dish cloth she had crocheted.

There was a Surprise, though. The party was at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. My grandson arrived shortly after 2, on his motorcycle and asked me if I wanted to take a ride! Of course I did. With my current health problems it took helping hands for me to straddle that Harley, but straddle it I did. We rode for about 20-25 minutes in the beautiful, serene country side. I asked him later how far and how fast we went. He grinned and chose not to answer that. Except for my son and family, the rest of my immediate family is local. My son told me the highlight of the day for him was seeing me on that motorcycle ride!

There have been many comments about the party. The ones I hear that warms my heart the most is about seeing the whole family working together to celebrate my 90th birthday! Only 10 more years to go to meet my goal!

Yep, Tom and Kat. That's the plan. I'm booked with family in town this weekend, but next weekend I'm going to get the bed all fixed up and put some store-bought plants in there so we can get going. Then when the new batch of seedlings is ready, I'll put them in too. Then I'll spend all winter defending the tomatoes from the puppy, who thinks farming is just the most wonderful thing because it allows him to supplement his diet with tasty almost ready to pick tomatoes, sapodillas that fall, entire broccoli plants (broccoli is going out front this year - only broccoli we ate last year was from two plants that didn't fit in the broccoli bed in the back and got stuck in a front bed, a shame because broccoli was always so happy in the so-called broccoli bed, but it only took Atticus a few minutes to decimate them one morning when our backs were turned, he's sneaky that way) and so many cherries he gets sick (we've gotten rid of all the cherries finally.) As for the book, I'll definitely let everyone know when it's out. I'm pretty excited about the whole effort.

I'm very late to this party, but still wanted to wish the evil one a happy birthday! I've been busy and haven't been on CF much the last couple of months, so I've missed a lot. I've kept up with the Saints, though, and I'm not blaming Jessy for that loss on Sunday. They had nothing to lose or gain by winning, so they didn't really try. Jessy, keep wearing your Black and Gold for future games --- the rest of the games are going to matter!

NO MORE TILE!!!!! The gross stuff they use to make the seams. I just realized the guys butt is in the pic!LOL I watched them make one of the seams. A pretty interesting process. THe final. My girls wouldn't leave. Pic with the tiles we love in the background. I love the TILES, but I'm not sure the full GREEN will work with the stainless. The green isn't coming through our slabs as much as it did in the sample piece. I have another tile coming as well that has blue AND green in it, so I may end up with that one...or the mosaic I still really love. At least we are CLOSE to picking the backsplash. Oh, Sue, that's just great. Loved the picture. Did you take a picture of those beautiful cupcakes? What a wonderful celebration. Can't wait to see what you're planning on doing for the 100th. Parachuting?

Jasdip, the KT is listed as my favorite site, (Been a Garden Web member since I got my first PC, in !997.) but ever since iVillage bought GW, we never know what might change. A lot of KTers don't have a birthday listed on their profile; I guess that is their choice, or not. Any way, at least I still know when mine is!

Susan, that isn't my helmet; it is my DGS's DW's. They ride a lot. He would never have taken me with out it. But I didn't really like the "Harley helmet hairdo" when I saw the pic.

The only other time I rode was once, at their house, around the block, so this was my maiden voyage.

I appreciate all your kind, and flattering, replies. If there is a reason for my being at this age, it is because I am not a worrier, and I prefer to use common sense and logic in all things and the BIGGIE: I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine. I love (good, clean) humor and try my best to spread it around.

The cupcake girl's DH is the photographer, but he didn't take any of the refreshment tables. But if I did this right, here is a commercial that a radio station did for them a while back.

Happy Birthday Sue! What a fantastic picture. Never in my life could I say I met a person who could say they have an 80 year old nephew. Good for you. What a great birthday celebration you had. You are so cool

cherryfizz, good to see you again! Explanation about ages.... I had four older sisters. I was ten when this nephew was born. He now spends his time growing roses.

georgysmom, never too old to learn something new! I had no idea there was any connection between birthday and favorite forum. How do I change that?
