Being sick is a pain in the tookas

I have been sick for the past month. A month ago I ended up in the hospital with a ruptured ulcer in my bariatric pouch. Then 2 weeks later ended up back in the hospital with another ulcer in my pouch. Thankfully this one didn't rupture. I have quit smoking and quit drinking sodas, but I am still weak and that is where I have been if anyone missed me.

Now I need to read the board and catch up on what is going on....love ya all!!!!

Laura, so glad to see your post but so sorry you have been ill. We all missed you and are glad you are back. Take care of yourself and just post when you can. You'll have fun reading all our crazy posts and getting caught up. Satine

What Mike said------. Yes, we CAN blame Patrick. He has caused so much pain to the old wallet anyways, so why not blame him for the flu also. It is all his fault! 4 days in bed, starve a fever & plenty of liquids; chicken soup is good and you will be playing in the mud in short order. Get well! I don't blame you for your shopping spree. It sounds like something crazy that I would do. It sounded like fun. Just look on what you will save on gas. Sorry you got this nasty flu. Don't let it turn into Pneumonia. All the best! Foghorn

Fairegold, as strange as it seems, your message was an encouragement to me. It's good to know others are dealing with similar issues. My 90 year old mother is in a lovely assisted living community. But every time I see her she has new complaints, especially about the food. Pork chops every day; no fresh vegetables, only canned; no spices; mashed potatoes, french, fries, potato chips; only chocolate for dessert...on and on it goes. Sometimes I just want to scream. But I don't. Instead I try to come up with ideas to "fix" things. But my fixes are never good enough. Anyhow, to you & the others who responded, as I said before, it's good to know there are others dealing with similar situations. Regarding your husband's hearing difficulties, I've worn hearing aids since I was in my mid thirties (I'm now 58). In fact, I got my newest pair about two months ago. They make such a difference in quality of life. And it's good for your husband to get them while he's still spry & able to adjust to new situations. My mother needs hearing aids, but I'm afraid that she won't make the adjustment & will end up not using them. The only adivce I can give (and, of course, you didn't ask for any) is that your husband make sure he gets his aids from a true audiologist, someone who will give him the best aid for his particular needs. Follow up is very important too. He should be able to see the audiologist every few weeks for almost six months, so adjustments can be made. He needs to tell his audiologist everything he notices -- a slight uncomfortable feeling, feedback problems, etc. Anything that concerns him. Nothing is too small. A good audiologist will make every attempt to correct problems. Under no circumstances should he just grit his teeth and bear it. (By the way, my new hearing aids have two microphones & are digital. They were expensive, but worth it.)

Awww you poor dear! You must be out of your mind with worry. When my dog (Saint Bernard/ Black Lab mix) had surgery on his hind leg I kept him on a short leash tied to the couch. I iced his leg three times a day for 15 minutes. We also did light stretching exercises by moving his leg in and out gently. It helped with the swelling. He also had a little fluid retention but that went away in a few days. He was also on a light seditive and pain pills for a week. If your dogs swelling and fluid retention is really bad and leaking it could be a bad sign and I would take her to the emergency vet if you have one available. They may put her on antibiotics. It takes time for them to use the leg after a major surgery but a re-evaluation on Monday wouldn't be a bad idea. After 4 months, my dog is still going through physical therapy to strengthen his leg. I know that sick feeling all too well!! Eight weeks ago I picked a wood and color that I loved. It's a warm wood tone on beech with rustic knots. It's been so many weeks since I've since it that I began panicing all this week as the cabinets were scheduled to arrive. I was freaking out thinking I had ordered cabinets so rustic that I would need to hang antlers in the kitchen just to 'carry on the theme'!! :-) I've seriously lost sleep over this! Well, they arrived this afternoon and all my fears are gone - - they are stunning! With just the right amount of rustic to look Old World and the warm wood tones are gorgeous. I, too, have a creamy colored island and it's beautiful. Let's just hope it all comes together as pretty in real life as it is in my head! :-) I had visions of a creamy white kitchen as well, but when it didn't go with anything else in my house, I knew I had to lose the dream. But pictures of creamy kitchens will always make my heart beat quicker!! I hope you grow to LOVE your new kitchen - cherry wood and all! I look forward to seeing pictures!

WOW! You've really been through the mill. Yes, being sick is a pain in the tookas. Right now I really have a pain in my tookas, literally! I pulled my gluteus maximus muscle while playing golf and have been off the circuit for a week now. LOL. I was feeling sorry for myself until I read your post. My problems are minor compared to yours! I hope you feel better real soon and it was good to hear from you. Keep us posted.

3 weeks ago I got bitten by a rattlesnake and still recovering from that and now a severe sinus infection with a swollen face!

I have had all I can stand!

I've given up smoking but still working on the soda. I'm not drinking as much
as I once did .... I'm also drinking flavored water. Feel better!!

Gracious Laura, you have been through the wringer.

Now I know this is easy for me to say - since I have never smoked and don't drink more than two sodas in a year...

But you are going to be feeling so much better, in so many ways, just by getting rid of the soda. That stuff is nasty poison. And smoking? You hang in there; you can beat the habit; although I do know it's very hard.

I have two brothers, a husband, and a very dear friend that were all chain smokers. All went cold turkey and haven't looked back.

You can do it!

Congratulations on having quit smoking, and the sodas.

Some folks have found some helpful advice, wisdom and support at www.quitnet.org. Several used to say that they couldn't have had a successful quit without it - or so they figured: they might have been underestimating the strength of their own resolve.

Good wishes for keeping those resolutions strong.
