I need to invent a new cookie! lol!

My BF just unknowingly cooked oats in my homemade hummingbird food. :O) Honestly, it's awesome! but icky sweet. lol! There is no way I'm going to throw it out! I'm going to invent a new cookie using these beautifully caramelized oats. Then I'll come up with a good name for them. :)

It would be a cool device. You've had me thinking on it since I read your post. It's actually quite doable if the broadcaster would feel building the query database would be profitable. That's the kind of forward thinking that makes people rich!!!The possibilities are endless if it were implemented. One of my digital to analog converters has a pause on it when even on a live broadcast, you could pause the picture. If the tv is connected to the internet then you could use your pointer, type in "persons name" or "mountain name" or point to a food dish and query "recipe". I know a lot of folks have the newer tv's that wirelessly log onto the internet. Mine has a small keyboard that slides out from under the remote. It comes in handy when doing searches on netflix or, looking at ebay, facebook, etc. real quick right from the tv. It could surely work off that same principle and evolve over time into something even more powerful....good thinking on your part!!!

The fact that national (and even our local) tv stations cannot spell or do not check their spelling just drives me nuts. I yell at the tv at least once a day at my local station news broadcasts!! And I am even more appalled when the national shows screw things up. I yell at them and tell them I will come down and do that job because they really need it!!! I heard (wasn't looking at the tv) her say that, but instantly thought Minot and didn't realize she has said "Minto". Geesh!!

NYCBD and Christine- Thanks. They taste fine and we will enjoy them for awhile as it made lots of cookies. I put a lot in my freezer to keep while visiting DM. Christine - did you post the cute Santa cookies on CEFs post or was that someone else? NY - still enjoying your marvelous kitchen? I almost made it to NY for the marathon(as support and not running that far currently) OldBat - have fun shopping. I think the silicon rolling sheet will work fine once I have the dough at the right temperature. This replaced my old Tupperware model. Loved your picture of your family with the snow out your window at Christmas. I am hosting a 3 Kings Party brunch on Jan 4(in reality it should be Jan 6th) but we hold it on the closest Sunday - maybe I will try some other new recipes.

I'm stuck on your egg dilemma. I haven't done it often enough to say exactly what works, but you can use things like chia goo or the liquid from garbanzo beans as a binder/thickener. They add a bit of earthiness but are still good, and seeds and beans are balanced. If you're just cutting fat, however, you could use eggwhites. You don't need to thicken the velouté, if the alternatives aren't appealing. Just reduce it more. There's no getting around the salt level of cheeses. Low sodium is available in mozzarella and a few others but they don't melt as well. Melting it into the sauce sounds like a good way to work it out. Or you could make a béchamel instead, using non-fat evaporated milk, or reduce fresh non-fat milk, and control the seasoning yourself. I think a good béchamel is just as delicious as cheese. If you reduce it well, it'll have more of a consistency of melted cheese as well.

I buttered a baking dish, pressed the sweet oats in the bottom and baked for 15 mins. Then I poured a regular pumpkin pie filling over it and baked until done. OMG, it was *delish*! The oats absorbed moisture from the pumpkin filling and gave it a great texture. I guess you could call it 'hummkin pie'. LOL!!!

I bet crushed walnuts or sunflower seeds would be good in those cookies.

I wonder how many scrumptious recipes are the result of accidents.

One Christmas, my mother, the worst cook in the universe, made brownies.

They were heavenly.

rich, dark, buttery chocolatey melt-in-your-mouth velvety.

just heavenly.

When my sister-in-law asked her for the secret, my mother said,
"I just used the recipe on the back of the baking chocolate package....
but it said to use half the squares in the package, & when I was breaking the chocolate, it all fell apart, so I said 'D@mn@t!on!' & threw the whole mess in there."

I've remembered that all these years, & whenever I get the impulse to bake, I always think, "double the chocolate!"
