Every gravestone picture tells a story.

And so many of these stories are disappearing. Take this one, for instance. The stone was erected in memory of Amanda, wife of Adelbert Pellet, and her son, also named Adelbert. Amanda died June 8, 1866, at the age of 30, after giving birth to Adelbert a month earlier. Then the baby died in September.

Ancestry.com lists Adelbert Pellet's wife as Mary Jane Ansley, who died in 1863 at the age of 32. I don't see a record for another Adelbert Pellet, so chances are he married Amanda soon after losing Mary Jane. Ancestry says he had three children, so at least of them must have been with his first wife. So hard on them to lose their mother and then their stepmother. I have no idea what Adelbert did after that.

Real life, and real loss. It's sad to see the stone in this condition.
