dee you reminded me... so when my son was 2, his 3 year old cousin got away from his parents (don't get me started!) and was on the property that abutted theirs. He couldn't tell them where he lived or his phone number. You better believe I started right then and there teaching my son address and phone number. What I am really glad about is, I began teaching him area codes along with it. Which works well now, because people move from other states and keep their cell numbers. Becoming really commonplace. Him being lost and not knowing how to find us wasn't about to happen to him.

Had to teach him "how to talk to strangers". People don't get that. They always want to say never talk to strangers. That's just not right. You have to teach them how to discern when, where, and which people are appropriate (teachers, parents, people with badges), and what to NEVER do, don't get in a car, don't leave. I'd tell him instead to come find me. I'd practice saying, But I have candy! At 2 all he'd say was No. And make that displeased look they can get. Cute. Hard not laugh at the sweet pie. It doesn't hurt to talk to strangers. It could be bad if you leave with strangers, though. Always get mommy or daddy!
