East side of Barbados. It took water a long time to get this far.

Sacket's Harbor-a lovely village in Northern NY. It played an important naval role in the War of 1812. You can see the battlefield and the old barracks. Flowers everywhere in the little village. When I picked this picture to post, I thought you could see the harbor better.

It looks like a Praying Mantis to me. We don't see them too often around here.

The Mantis comes in different colors. Many are a true green. This one was on my Russian Sage the other day.

bengardening...lol. I hadn't noticed that 'thumbnail' look.

It wouldn't turn it's head toward the camera for me, so DH came along, broke off it's perch and handed it to me. It has been several years since I have seen one and I spend a huge amount of time 'touring' my yard.

This one turned its head, but I had to take the pix without his entire body showing. All I really wanted was the look on his face when I snapper the shutter!

Nice pictures. I've never seen a praying mantis in real life.

Lydia, congratulations on your new fur-baby. He's adorable.
I used to see green praying manti all the time as a kid. Never now, as an adult.

For years we would always have a batch that would hatch out in the spring and usually by this time of the year they were veritable monsters, this year I saw several tiny ones early in the year, but now there seem to be none.

The resolution on this is not good (I was still learning how to use the camera). This was taken in late July. That is a cucumber beginning to form. It shows the size of the mantis. They are difficult to see in this type of setting - too much green!
