The Moon photogtaphed by Prof. Rutherford 1897

The moon shot by Prof. Rutherford was made by taking 2 views of the moon one month apart. The shift of the images was just right and in the correct direction to produce a beautiful 3-D effect when viewed by a stero-optican. This remarkable work was done ca 1897 when photography (and lens making) was yet rapidly evolving.

Ok. Ok, My prior post was a cop-out. Here's a vintage picture. It is the class photo of a rural school, year 1946-1947. I am in the middle row.

My parents--when they first got engaged (1946), and before dementia ravaged Mom (circa 2000).

My mother is still the keeper of all of the old photos. I guess I should take time to scan them so that they could be easily shared with other members of the family.

Wanda, your parents didn't change much at all over the years. When I look at some of the anniversary photos in our newspaper, it's hard to believe they're the same people who got married years ago.

Casey, I'm glad the rice was above your parents. And obviously the fertility ritual worked. ;-)

Marilyn, that hairdo is so 1920s!

JemDandy, my husband had a stereo camera. He was disappointed that the technique never caught on.

Bob, you had some good quality photographs to work with. Not many blemishes at all, but it would be easy to remove the few with a photo editing program. Was your family in Germany? Wisconsin?

He was. I love that he should've been front and center, and yet, hiding behind everyone. Oddly enough... my father's first job in the navy was security for the space program. My now ex? His dad worked in Huntsville... small small world.

I love all these old pics! My DB just spent over 4 hours sorting pics at my parents house. I now have a large tote that I can't lift, and barely push across the floor, plus a small box. I will try to get a few copied to upload for you!

I've already fix many of the most egregious problems. I've been trying to find the best recipe for fixing problems at scan time, and fixing problems through post-processing.

I was wondering how you guessed our German background, but I guess "Otto" is a pretty good clue.

My family was mostly of German background but lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. I know my grandfather and grandmother met when he was working as a chef in a hotel in Florida, and she was a waitress. She lied about her age saying she was older than she really was, and he lied saying he was younger than he really was. Even with their lied-about ages, the age difference between them was shocking.

Here's another example where more extensive manual edits were needed.

This is probably in 1966. I was about two. My mom, dad, two sisters and my brother. I'm the baby :)

This one has "March 1929" written on the back, but that's it. I have no clue as to the names/relationships of the guys. I do know that it was taken in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, at my grandparents' house, so at least one of these guys has got to be related to my family somehow.

The little girl is my Great Aunt, Marion, born in 1910. Her Mom and their hired help are picking down of off geese for a feather bed. Marion lived to be 102, passing away in early 2013. The farm is still in my family.

Taken about 1943. My Moms youngest brother home from the war with a bunch of his nieces and nephews. I am the littlest in front with the bonnet on.

Five of the 7 Boston brothers - my husband's Uncles - unfortunately we aren't sure of one of them - could be either Roswell or Ernest. We do know hubby's dad is not in the picture. The oldest is in the center front. He is in age next to sister Marie in above picture.

Other side of the family. I don't see daddy in the bottom photo, so probably not born yet (1939), but they are his parents, my great grandmother/grandfather, daddy's brothers and his aunts/uncles. The top photos are of his brother, I think. I've already forgotten! Should write these things down.

My mother's father, on the right. He's as tall as he looks! 6'4" It's really funny to see the difference/similarities between his lab and modern labs. They've torn down this building, last year at some point. Made us sad.

My great-uncle Isidore, a well-known pianist and composer in his day, is at top left. The soprano Margarite Starell, his good friend, is in the middle row at right. This was probably around the turn of the 20th century. The Age of the Hats.
