I am glad you had such good tech support!
I recently bought a Toshiba laptop and had lots of trouble with it.....tech support wasn't a lot of help but I had gotten the extended warranty at Staples and they finally got to the bottom of the problem.
Now it works well and all I have to do is get used to the keyboard.

Any new computer should be customized to your specific wants and needs. It doesn't take much time and with a little asking for help you will learn a lot...

Have you installed a new Antivirus program?

It has McAfee, However, I always uninstall that and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and it's Microsoft so it's gotta be good, I figure. Also McAfee was arrested for murder and I will NOT have anything to do with that individual.

As I was told, the Lenovo is the computer you wish you bought. LOL!

My L. notebook's a few years old now and once I navigated around, I like it a lot. I'm not real tech savvy so didn't go for all the quirky add ons they tend to want to load you up with.

Some of those are on my uninstall list. I don't want or need that stuff.

Just because something is Microsoft doesn't mean it is good. Have you not heard about all of the problems ("bugs," "holes," "security issues") with Microsoft products like Windows, Internet Explorer, etc.??????

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I don't think any one individual has been the sole person who has created any of the McAfee security products. There are entire teams of people who work there.

I don't know what country you live in, but in the United States, an individual is innocent until proven guilty. Just because someone is arrested (for any crime) doesn't mean he or she actually committed the crime. Sometimes the cops arrest someone because they hope that person can provide enough information for them to arrest the real perpetrator. Just because someone is arrested doesn't mean there is even enough evidence against that person to take him/her to trial.

Avast, AVG are very well recommended and are better than MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials).

Don't forget to download SuperAntiSypyware and Malwarebytes as well, also free.

Why the lecture? It seems to me it is Deeby's choice of which products to use.

I have no problem using McAffee. It comes with my internet provider and has saved my computer many times. I also don't care what he may or may not have done in his life, as there has not been any proof. I watched a story about the murder quite some time ago.

I refuse to use a "free" online anti virus (yes, mine is technically free, but the cost is in my monthly bill payment to my internet provider). And will never buy Norton after we spent about $100 on it, then a week later got a virus so bad, my son couldn't get his computer to turn on and Norton refused to help.

I love the fact that computer companies can remotely help you with your computer. You just sit back and watch the mouse do this and that and next thing you know, voila! Your computer is in perfect running condition. I think it comes in especially handy for people who are not computer savvy. Our head office often uses it on my computer at work. I will explain everything I've done and they still insist on me connecting them, so they can do what I did and it doesn't work for them either..... snicker..

If you've called tech support OF THE COMPANY supplying the product (or software) you need help with, there's ZERO risk in giving them remote access. Don't hesitate or give it a second thought. Enjoy watching what they do, it's an incredibly useful technique for providing expert help.

Every person has the right to decide what they want to put on their machine and there are plenty to select from.
I still use MSE on some of mine and I use AVAST free on some both have been excellent and I have had no problems with them.
The one AV that has caused me the most problems ever was McAfee so for me personally that is why I don't use it but what I choose to use or not use is of course my decision.

The main thing is when removing any AV from the pc to use the dedicated removal tool so that it is fully removed prior to installing the new choice. Or use a free program App Remover

using just add remove from control panel will leave orphaned bits in the system.

For a brand new pc one of the handiest tools is decrapifier to remove all the unwanted junk and programs that are factory installed. I always use it on a new computer.

Happy you kept the Lenovo. I had a learning curve with mine too, haha I was ready to throw it across the room a few times but glad I persevered and I had help with the computer forum here. I was used to XP and knew nothing about Windows 8 and the touch screen feature was also new. I use the computer in desktop mode all the time so unless I hit the Windows 8 app button I haven't really spent a lot of time over on those pages but I did check out a few boxes.
