That's crazy, isn't it? I see that it sold for about 3.2 million. The Washington Post's piece on the history of this specific comic book and the seller is interesting.

It's not unheard of. Serious collectors are almost like a separate species, and some people have a lot of money at their disposal. I once auctioned a book on eBay that sold for almost $1,500, and when I looked into the buyer I discovered mine was the least expensive of the many books he'd bought that week.

I looked at the auction and buyers had to obtain pre-clearance, which means they were checked financially to ensure they could pony up the winning bid. Totally legit.

Pretty amazing.....must be nice to have that kind of money.
