Is anyone else getting annoying App Popups?

I have never had a problem with ads here on GW and I always thought it was because I am on an iPad. These App ads have been here for a couple weeks now. EVERY SINGLE posting/reply there is a popup and I am unable to read the posting. I even tried AdAware for iOS7...no good. I do not think there is any other browser option on an iPad so I could try another ad blocker, is there? If not, I need to take several daily GW reads off my bookmarks. I wrote an email to GW a few days ago, but have been ignored. I hope I can read the replies or I may have to have a friend read them to me over the phone. I use an iPad because of visual problems. Thanks!

I agree with you. This forum is about support & encouragement. This is not the place to push products or services. I know that from time to time we'll discuss certain products or services that have helped us. But the discussions are in the context of helping each other and offering possible solutions. They're never a blatant attempt at sales.

Mike - I didn't visit any sites this morning other then my email, my bank and two forums here at gardenweb - appliances and figs. I didn't open any other links. Now I do use Firefox exclusively but I'll have to check to verify Ad Block Plus has been downloaded. I assumed I had it because I so seldom get pop ups - and this one was so odd because it happened every time I opened a new message but it only happened here at the Garden Web for about 10 minutes and then it disappeared. OK - I'm going to check for Ad Block now. Thank you again everyone.

Thanks, Angie, I'll look again because I missed it the first time around. Still can't figure out why these suddenly reappeared. drachiele, I stated that I understand the need for ads. I know this isn't a charity. However, this type of ad isn't only annoying, it affects me negatively. Excessive visual stimuli - a category these fall into - cause my chronic disease symptoms to flair up. They have the right to make money but I have the right to protect my health.

Nice tips, bmore. Wonder if I can use that same technique with Firefox. Have to look into that. Tamara responded to my complaint, stating that she had reported the problem this morning and a fix should be in place soon. She also told me that generally these types of ads should only appear once per session. If only they were that infrequent! I even had the Duracell ad show up on the message preview page and I've never seen an ad there before - not even when we were dealing with the underlined green word hyperlinks mess. Oh, scratch that. I just noticed the Dove bleed-in ad from the right when I previewed my reply. At least it's not nearly as annoying as Duracell or Penney's ads. I've seen the Penney's ad once so far today but no Duracell ad. I'm hoping they've gone away for good.

Yes! Can't stand these pop ups on the ipad. I have not been coming here as much because of them. I know they only last for a few seconds, but when it is post after post it gets a bit much.

Other forums on GW are also complaining.

Nope, though I did get several little messages on the screen that a popup had been blocked. I'm on my Kindle.

Try some of the other browsers available in the Apple Store, there's a Firefox option now too. Look into it because there's an adblock for it. Adblock is the best adblocker.

I have heard that Perfect browser is a good alternative.
Other browsers potentially could have better ad blocking options.

Do a Google search for browsers for iPad great information there.

Are you sure you got Adaware? Because it's not an ad blocker, it's a malware, Spyware, etc removal tool. Not used much near as much these days as it was years ago.

However....I have GREAT NEWS....The app called AdBlock is working. I am now accessing all my favorite Gardenweb forums through it with no pop-up ads. Yay!
