don't have time to search for that thread but thought I would mention that I read that thread and decided to order the free pair and they arrived today...look like very nice socks...order said 6 to 8 weeks and don't think it has even been a week ...

I got mine as well, they look wonderful, I got the short hiking socks.
Not ready for a hike yet until it cools down a bit, maybe September, then I'll give them a try.

I got mine too. I got the khaki crew socks for hiking. They are very, very soft. I hope they hold up well. I'll be wearing them with my cowboy boots when I go ride my horse.

celticmoon, how TERRIFIC! What a great feeling it must be, to have that system STILL working. That's proof that it's a system that works for you. (I often think we blame ourselves when our new system doesn't work, instead of realizing that maybe the problem is the system doesn't match for us!) What is it w/ DH's and pawing through drawers? Back when DH used to dress the baby, I swear to you, he would open the drawer, put his hand in, and STIR! I swear to you, I WATCHED HIM! Then he'd grab some clothes, and dress the kid in pieces from different outfits (meanwhile, they'd all been folded together, shirt inside its matching pants, and laid neatly in the drawer) I've been thinking of you every day for about 2 weeks. Every time I open my sock drawer. I think of your success, and say, "I need to do somethign about this d*** drawer." I keep stuff besides socks in there--lint roller, some jewelry, the evening bag, extra gloves. And I have socks I should probably ditch. Maybe I'll try your rubber bands. (DH is in charge of his OWN sock drawer; I don't even want to go there, LOL!) And DS's sock drawer could probably use the rubber bands, too. I think of our comments about how sock drawers just do NOT want to cooperate, etc. Maddie, that's how my mom did socks--all socks went into a sock basket; if you wanted socks, you fished yours out. Every now and then, mom would be tired of the sock basket accumulation, and she'd make someone sort it out and put it away. She refused to sort socks; that was OUR job. And the teacher is thinking, "Oh, good. I'm not the only one who can't keep my kids' socks all bright and shiny." This reminded me of a conversation I overheard in the laundry once. This older woman (LOL, probably 57 or something) was speaking of her widowed son-in-law, who had 3 boys to raise after his wife (her DD) died. The grandma said, "he's doing a really good job, but the bottoms of their socks are gray!" She went on about it a little bit scathingly, as if somehow that proved that he couldn't do it without her help; he was basically incompetent as a dad, because the bottoms of his kids' socks were dark.

I only wear socks in winter generally unless it is some special activity in the summer. I am Diabetic so my feet being healthy is very important. I usually wear the mini crew height, I do have some of the shorter ones and a few knee high for winter. I can't have any that have the top too tight so that it cuts off circulation and causes swelling. I do like the ones with the arch support feature. I just cleared out my sock drawer last week and have way too many socks. I gave away so many that were maybe worn once. But if I buy them and they end up being too tight around my ankle I don't wear them again. My husband is the same way, a tight sock around the ankle will cause him to have bad foot pain. I have various brands. I like some of the ones I get that are skechers brand. He really likes Nautica socks but has a hard time finding them. I am not tied to a brand, I have to see them, feel them, test the top elastic for how tight it is. I don't usually buy them for myself but do get them sometimes for DH, he hikes - a lot, like daily, for his work. They hold up really well and he's hard on socks, come with a variety of cushioning for different foot areas depending on which style ordered and what you plan to use them for.

Even for the price, I don't baby them in the wash. They go in with his jeans and then tumble with the denim in the dryer too. Last quite some time before wearing out.

I got the running socks...WOW! NICE! Nothing but good things to say about them!

Much better...superior to my Adidas & Asics running contour socks....which are the latest version. Thorlo is better!

I got the Distance Walking socks. I agree, Nicole...NICE! So cushy. I hope they don't make my shoes too tight. And made in the USA too. I cannot remember who linked us to the free socks site, but if you are listening, thank you!

I think when it comes time for me to buy more socks I'll get some from them. They are a bit more than I usually pay for socks but if they are well made and cushy that certainly makes them worthwhile for me.

Ya know....I have a $10 off JCP coupon. They have 2 prs of Adidas climacool socks for $12.....that makes them $1 a pair! That's why I purchased them in the first place... I may keep doing that....it's just too tempting....

On everyone's recommendation here, I ordered a pair of hiking socks for my son who loves to camp and hike. I thought the grey color would be great for camping where they use stuff over and over and it gets real grungy. If he likes them, we will buy a pair for DIL.

For $15 pair, they had better be good. I can't imagine anyone paying that much for one pair of socks!

I shopped for hiking socks this weekend at a local sporting goods store. Finally found a pair for 7.99 (not cushy and wonderful, but ok), but I even saw a pair for $20. If they help keep the feet in good working order, it's worth it. I hope Thorlo sends us coupon of some sort. I'm waiting.

When I saw the $12 price tag of my first pair of Thorlo socks many years ago I about had heart failure. Surely it must be a typo. But I suffer from horrible blisters when I hike even with good fitting, quality shoes. The Thorlos came highly recommended so I reluctantly plunked down the money. Never looked back. They cost even more now but I will always wear them for serious hiking and long walks.

I have worn thorlos for years...The only complaint I have ever had was they can be too warm.
They make different weights so I don't think I deserve to complain....They are very, very comfortable and have never worn out a pair.

I ordered 4 pair yesterday for my husband...yes they are expensive but when your feet are a constant issue and hurt all the time from nerve pain you will pay anything for a little comfort..and he liked the free pair I ordered...I ordered the walking socks not even the diabetic because I was worried they would be too heavy...Anyway my wallet is $69 dollars lighter but I think he is going to be a happy camper.
